No need for DMK to have secret relations with BJP: Sekarbabu
Trichy: , TNCC president Selvaperunthagai on Monday said the chief minister M K Stalin went to Delhi to fight for Tamil Nadu's rights.
To the opposition claims that CM visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the NITI Aayog meeting prompted by 'fear' of ED raids, he said, "That is a misunderstanding.
The BJP govt has consistently withheld funds, but this time it has completely withheld them.
The chief minister went to fight for our rights. Placing conditions—such as mandatory acceptance of the National Education Policy (NEP)—and withholding funds if states refuse to comply, is an authoritarian way of functioning." TNN
Chennai: HR & CE minister P K Sekarbabu on Monday came down hard on AIADMK general secretary Edapapdi K Palaniswami and TVK president Vijay for their criticism of chief minister M K Stalin's Delhi visit to participate in the Niti Aayog meeting.
He told reporters here, "If our CM wants to oppose, he will oppose directly, and if he wants to support, he will do so. We are not scared and there is no need for DMK to have a secret relationship with BJP.
"
Making a veiled attack on actor and TVK founder Vijay, Sekarbabu said (in Tamil), "I need not respond to 'criticisms of mushrooms that sprouted in yesterday's rain'. Let them come to the field first. We are ready to fight those 100 times stronger than them.

Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami questioned chief minister M K Stalin if he managed to bring additional funds to Tamil Nadu because of his participation in Niti Aayog meeting.
Earlier, Palaniswami said in a statement that Stalin's Delhi visit was a "mission failure".
Addressing a public meeting at Moongilpadi in Kallakurichi on Monday, Palaniswami said when he met Union home minister Amit Shah in March this year, he submitted a memorandum listing out the issues needed to be addressed in Tamil Nadu.
"I requested him to release funds for implementing MGNREGS in Tamil Nadu. Immediately, he released close to 3,000 crore. Has Stalin managed to bring funds like this to the state," he asked.
Palaniswami said Stalin avoided speaking about such achievements of AIADMK even when the party was in opposition.
"Instead, he repeatedly speaks about my meeting with Amit Shah after switching three cars. What is your problem in using multiple cars? I had to use the cars of other leaders such as Thambidurai. So, I had to change cars. I will even walk,'' Palaniswami said.
On the Tasmac scam, Palaniswami said the DMK leadership was hiding behind the court stay.
"Once the stay is lifted, many in DMK will be in the place where they ought to be,'' he said.
Palaniswami said Stalin was scared of AIADMK's alliance with BJP as "such an alliance will bring out the corruption of DMK govt".
He said, "Soon more parties will be joining our front."
P
alaniswami hoisted the party flag on a 126-foot-tall flagpole at Moongilpadi prior to the public meeting, claiming it to be the "tallest pole".
In the statement, Palaniswami questioned the timing of Stalin's participation in Niti Aayog governing council annual sessions, after "a three-year boycott".
He said, "People are asking whether the funds are for Tamil Nadu or for a family member. What is the real answer," he asked.
On Stalin's accusations related to Palaniswami's relatives, the former chief minister said his relatives were engaged in business before their relationship to him and dismissed accusations regarding I-T searches on their properties.
"It is a well-known fact that I had nothing to do with this. It is shameful to spread such false accusations without being able to confront me politically," the AIADMK leader said.

Putin, Trump discuss India-Pakistan ties: Trump claimed he stopped conflict; Kremlin silent on details
Putin Trump discussion A recent phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump touched upon an unexpected flashpoint: the recent India-Pakistan conflict, a Kremlin aide said on Wednesday. According to Yury Ushakov, a senior advisor to Putin, the conflict was "stopped with the personal participation of President Trump. " 'They also touched upon the Middle East and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which was stopped with the personal participation of President Trump,' Ushakov said, as reported by Russia's state-run TASS news agency. However, Ushakov offered no details of Trump's involvement or timing. Trump claims credit, India cites military diplomacy Trump has in the past taken credit for de-escalating South Asia tensions, particularly during his presidency. However, India has consistently maintained that the cessation of hostilities was the result of direct military dialogue. Officials confirmed that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations coordinated the ceasefire following cross-border exchanges in early May. The recent skirmish began after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, prompting India to carry out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan responded with aerial aggression over the next three days, targeting Indian military bases, but was met with strong retaliation. A mutual understanding to halt operations was reportedly reached on May 10 via DGMO-level talks. Pakistan seeks Putin's help, India gets diplomatic backing In a parallel development, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent a letter to President Putin seeking Russia's involvement in diffusing tensions. The letter was delivered by Sharif's aide Syed Tariq Fatemi during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday. "We are ready to sit down with them at the negotiating table," Fatemi said, expressing Islamabad's desire for Russian-led diplomacy. But India has been busy building a contrasting narrative in Moscow. Days before Fatemi's visit, a multi-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi received 'solid Russian support' for India's zero-tolerance policy against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, sources said. The rare moment of diplomatic shadowboxing in Moscow underlines the lingering mistrust between India and Pakistan, and the global interest in containing a regional crisis with nuclear stakes.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra ties the knot in Germany, husband Odisha politician
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, known for her fiery speeches in Parliament, has married Supreme Court lawyer Pinaki Misra, a former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from Odisha. Moitra confirmed the news to The Indian Express over the phone from Germany, where she got married in a low-key ceremony on May 30, according to sources. A photograph of the two, all decked up, at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate was published by The Telegraph. The two-term MP from Krishnanagar, who had a successful career as a banker with JP Morgan's London and New York operations before quitting her cushy job to return to the country and join politics, was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson, but they later divorced. Moitra, 50, was in a relationship with lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, but the two had a public fallout amid the 'cash for query' allegations that led to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December 2023, months before the parliamentary elections. She was accused of accepting gifts and cash from Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for sharing her Parliament login ID with him and asking questions on his behalf. Dehadrai, whom Moitra later described as a 'jilted ex', was the complainant in the case. Born in Assam's Cachar district in 1974, Moitra had a fairly affluent upbringing in a family of tea planters and graduated from a college in Massachusetts, US, with a degree in economics and mathematics. After leaving her corporate job and returning to the country, Moitra dived headfirst into politics. She first joined the Congress in 2008, where the party gave her the job of leading the 'aam aadmi ka sipahi (common man's soldier)' booth-level campaign that Rahul Gandhi had conceived. With the Trinamool Congress (TMC) increasingly looking poised to end decades of Left Front rule and the Congress a shadow of its past self, Moitra joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party two years later. After toiling away in district politics for a few years, her big break came in 2016 when she won from the largely rural Karimpur constituency in Nadia district. Three years later, the party fielded her in the Lok Sabha elections, looking to utilise her oratorical skills on the national stage. Her debut speech in Parliament in which she targeted the BJP government over the 'early signs of fascism' went viral on social media and established Moitra as an articulate spokesperson of the TMC on the national politics stage. Since then, she has made the headlines several times with her speeches targeting the Modi government and the RSS-BJP ideology. Moitra has also often been at the centre of focus over her relationship with her party. Before the Lok Sabha polls, party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee admonished her during an administrative review meeting in Nadia because of bickering over ticket distribution. In April, she was involved in a public spat with her Lok Sabha party colleague Kalyan Banerjee. Who is Pinaki Misra? Pinaki Misra, Moitra's husband, is a veteran politician from Odisha who was the Congress MP from Puri in 1996. A senior lawyer, he later joined Naveen Patnaik's BJD and won Puri again in the 2009 and 2014 elections, becoming the party's face in Delhi. Misra, who has a son and a daughter from a previous marriage, also came under fire during the 'cash-for-query' scandal, with the BJP demanding his expulsion from the BJD, citing Hiranandani's affidavit to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee. Misra dismissed the allegations as false and warned of legal action against the BJP. Belonging to a prominent Odia Brahmin family, Misra is the grandson of eminent poet and socialist leader Godabarish Misra, a Gandhian who opposed the caste system. Pinaki's father Lokanath Misra was a two-term MLA who was initially with the Congress and later the Swatantra Party. He served as the Assam governor from 1991 to 1997. Misra's uncle Ranganath Misra was the 21st Chief Justice of India. His cousin Justice Dipak Misra became the 45th CJI in 2017.
