Outlander's Caitriona Balfe stars in new historical drama as she makes career move
Catriona Balfe has made an exciting announcement on social media, as she makes huge moves in her acting career. The leading Outlander star, who captured hearts across the globe for her portrayal of Claire Fraser, took to Instagram to share the news.
Fans are still eagerly awaiting the drop of the eighth and final series of historical romance Outlander, with Starz likely to release it sometime in 2026. Spin-off series Blood of My Blood has had everyone talking, but those looking for more Caitriona action will be thrilled.
Her new project confirmed that she will return to the 18th century for a role in Sense and Sensibility. The Irish-born actress is currently starring in modern day thriller The Amateur, alongside Mr. Robot star Rami Malek, which is currently streaming on Hulu.
The Focus Features and Working Title Films adaptation on the Jane Austen classic also announced Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Balfe wrote: "I am so thrilled to be joining this excellent cast for this exciting project. In the 250-year anniversary of Austen's birth, with the visionary Georgia Oakley at the helm, a new Sense and Sensibility for a new generation. So proud to be Mother to these amazing young women," alongside a white heart emoji.
Her Outlander co-stars were among the first to share their conrgatulations, with Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander, quipping, "Ooooh mr Pickering!!"
Lauren Lyle, who plays Marsali Fraser, wrote "The QUEEEEEN!" According to Focus Films, Sense and Sensibility is the tale of "the timeless exploration of restraint and passion as it follows sisters Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne Dashwood (Creed-Miles), opposites in their emotional approach, as they navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty amid the societal expectations of 18th-century England."
Aside from her starring role in Outlander, Balfe has also appeared in Belfast, Ford v Ferrari, The Amateur, Now You See Me, and Super 8.
Her award credits include five golden globes, one of which was for her supporting role in Best Picture nominee Belfast and four times for her lead role in Outlander as Claire Fraser.
Elsewhere, Outlander spin-off Blood of My Blood has fans geared up with excitement, as it details the story of both Claire and Jamie's parents.
Many of the Outlander fanbase, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's original award-winning novels, are hoping the characters bring as much on-screen energy as both Claire and Jamie Fraser did, played by Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe.
"I hope they found some actors with amazing chemistry because they will live in the shadow of the original couple's chemistry. I already feel bad for the comparisons that are to come, but I am also really excited about new material," gushed one fan.
One pondered, "Have they said whether this is intended to be a mini-series/one-season wonder, or if it's open-ended and might go on for multiple seasons?," as some speculated already that it could be billed for a second series before it's even hit screens.

In 2019, Helen also decided to have Botox and explained how it has made her feel more confident. "I felt super tired from having Delilah and I wanted to feel fresher and more confident in myself. I would take pictures on my phone with the kids and would be shocked how much older I looked where in my head I still feel like I'm 20," she said. "I'm so happy with my Botox and if you're like me and still want to look 23, then it's a good idea." Just a few weeks ago, Helen recalled how she was verbally abused by a man on the Tube for standing up for another woman. She explained how the woman had been harassed by the man and when she stood up for the woman, she was verbally abused too. "He was really awful and I actually felt really intimidated, and I felt like I couldn't say much to him because I did feel really intimidated by him. He said to me, it was like the weirdest thing he could have said, 'You've got so much Botox in your forehead', and I was sat there with an iced coffee, and he was like, 'I'm surprised you can even drink through a straw,'" she recalled.

Almost 1000 people gather in Edinburgh to watch man fold fitted sheet
A stand-up comedian from New Zealand, Dan Boerman, has gone viral on social media after he was able to draw a crowd of hundreds of people to watch him successfully fold a fitted sheet at the top of Calton Hill on Friday. The UK-based performer said it was probably the 'craziest marketing stunt' of his career as videos circulating on social media show droves of people cheering Boerman on as he completed the task. Explaining why he decided to pull the stunt, Boerman said that he didn't have thousands of dollars to promote his show at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and had to 'think outside the box' to advertise it. 'Somebody who legally wasn't me put these fliers all around town. 'Word began to spread in group chats and all across social media. 'By the time of the event, nearly 1000 people showed up to watch the action take place. 'If you don't have rich parents and thousands of dollars for PR, sometimes you just got to think outside the box and everyone there was super excited and had a great time.' In another post on Instagram, the comedian wrote that several other people attempted to fold the sheet, with varying success. He also thanked the hundreds of people who gathered for creating a 'fun' atmosphere. Boerman wrote: 'A couple punters from the crowd stepped forward to try themselves. 'One crushed it. One… gave it an honest go. 'Thank you so much to everyone who came through today. Such a fun atmosphere.' World War II series based on 'one of the greatest books ever' is now available to stream

Hulu series Catch-22 first appeared on the small screen in 2019, as an adaptation of Joseph Heller's celebrated 1961 novel of the same name. The series follows the journey of Captain John Yossarian (played by Christopher Abbott) and his comrades during World War II as they carry out their duties for their country. Their freedom depends on finishing a set number of operations. Yet, precisely when they approach their liberation, the mission tally is consistently raised, throwing them back into danger, reports the Express. The ensemble cast also features George Clooney as Scheisskopf, Emmy-winning Argo star Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Godfather of Harlem's Rafi Gavron as Aarfy, Reacher's Daniel David Stewart as Milo, and Major Crimes' Graham Patrick Martin as Orr, amongst others.
