Amit Shah's "Proof" Jab At P Chidambaram Over "Homegrown Terrorists" Remark
Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at the Congress' P Chidambaram Tuesday for his suggestion the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack - in which 26 people were killed - were "homegrown", and his demand for proof that they were from Pakistan, as the government has repeatedly said.
In Parliament this morning, Mr Shah criticised the opposition leader for trying to 'save Pakistan' and declared, "When he says this, it means they (the Congress) is giving a clean chit (to Pak).
The Home Minister, in a typically combative speech, also said, "I thought the opposition would be happy to know the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack are dead... but it seems they are upset..."
Amit Shah began his address by confirming the three men shot dead by a joint operation between Jammu and Kashmir Police and the military Monday evening took part in the Pahalgam terror attack.
"But yesterday, former Home Minister Chidambaram ji raised the question - what is the proof that the terrorists came from Pakistan? I want to ask him what he will get by saving Pakistan. When he says this, it means they are giving a clean chit to Pakistan..." he continued.
Mr Shah then laid offered the House details of yesterday's operation, including the discovery of Pak-made chocolates in the pockets of the terrorists who were shot down.
He also said ballistics on assault rifles recovered confirmed their use in Pahalgam.
Buoyed by cheers from BJP MPs, Mr Shah repeated his 'clean chit' attack at Mr Chidambaram and the Congress and said they had lost the authority to question the government.

"The opposition seems upset terrorists were killed..." the Home Minister shouted angrily, "The opposition sees only the religion of the terrorists. Do they (the opposition) speak to Pak?"
"Civilians were killed in front of their families by (terrorists) who asked their religion. I condemn this barbaric act. I express my sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones," he said.
Mr Shah also criticised the Congress-led federal governments for failing to respond with military force to terror attacks during its time in power. "Between 2005 and 11, there were 27 terrorists attacks. What did Congress governmenst do? They just sent dossiers to Pakistan..."

NEW DELHI: As the opposition's protest seeking a discussion on the special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls has brought Parliament to a halt, some members in the INDIA bloc ranks Tuesday urged the alliance brass to find a way to run Parliament, but their plea was shot down. Sources said at the meeting of the INDIA bloc on Tuesday morning, CPM's John Brittas, RSP's NK Premachandran and IUML's ET Mohammed Basheer felt that the Parliament session should not be washed out. Kolhapur: NCP veteran and minister Hasan Mushrif on Monday said every party worker wanted Ajit Pawar to become the chief minister, and they should work ceaselessly to achieve this goal. "Ajit Pawar is an influential leader. He is committed to the public and never backs down from his word. He has a great future. Every worker dreams of him becoming the chief minister. We will work tirelessly till Ajit Pawar becomes the CM," Mushrif said, while addressing a party workers' meeting in Sangli. The minister said (undivided) NCP gave outside support to BJP on multiple occasions. "Even Sharad Pawar took BJP along while forming the Pulod govt (Progressive Democratic Front). Ajit Pawar decided to join BJP-led govt too. But, we have not compromised on the party's progressive ideals. We believe in Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar's ideology. Our aim is to develop the state and expand the party," he said. Mushrif said the upcoming local body elections were crucial. "Our aim is to win. We have to keep in mind that NCP is in alliance with Shiv Sena and BJP. Wherever possible, NCP will form an alliance with these two parties, and wherever it is not, we will have to contest alone and fight to win," the minister added.
