‘ ₹1.5 lakh compensation': Indigo held guilty for providing woman with 'unhygienic, stained' seat in Baku-Delhi flight
According to a PTI report, the Delhi consumer forum said Indigo Airlines provided a woman with an "unhygienic" and stained seat, and hence, was directed to pay ₹ 1.5 lakh compensation for the discomfort, pain, and mental agony she suffered.
The direction was issued when the New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission was hearing one Pinki's complaint.
In her complaint, she alleged that she was provided with an "unhygienic, dirty, and stained" seat while travelling from Baku to New Delhi on January 2 this year.
Pinki alleged that her complaint regarding the issue was treated in a "dismissive and insensitive manner".
IndiGo countered the claim and reportedly said that they took cognisance of Pinki's issue and assigned her a different seat, on which she willingly travelled and completed her journey to New Delhi.
Noting the evidence before it, the forum, in an order dated July 9, said, "We hold that the opposite party [Indigo] was guilty of deficiency in service."
"As regards the discomfort and pain, mental agony suffered by her, we are of the view that she must be compensated. We accordingly direct the opposite party to pay ₹ 1.5 lakh as compensation for mental agony, physical pain and harassment to her," the forum was quoted by PTI as saying.
It also directed payment of ₹ 25,000 as litigation expenses.
In its order, the forum said that the airlines had failed to produce the Situation Data Display (SDD) report, which formed a part of its internal operational records as per standard aviation protocols.
It said, "There is no reference to this report in the written statement or in the evidence filed by the opposite party. The SDD is a crucial document used for flight operation monitoring and to record passenger-related incidents. The absence of this document significantly weakens the opposite party's defence."

Five members of adulterated fuel racket arrested in Lucknow

The arrests were made following a raid conducted around 2.15 am near Lodhamau village on the Kisan Path highway towards Sitapur. Police said that adulterated fuel can cause serious damage to vehicles, often leading to breakdowns much earlier than normal. According to an STF statement, Ramu Yadav, Sukhbir Kumar, Sujit Kumar, Rinku Singh, and Mohammad Deenu were nabbed with a tanker carrying 15,000 litres of petrol and 5,000 litres of diesel, as well as drums of ethanol, solvent chemicals and petrol. The STF team also seized multiple vehicles, fuel extraction pipes, motorised filler machines, a generator, mobile phones, Indian Oil invoices, and cash. Investigators allege the gang used to steal fuel from tankers, replace the siphoned quantity with solvent chemicals, and then deliver the altered fuel to buyers in Lucknow and surrounding districts. The accused reportedly sold the product for Rs 75 to Rs 80 per litre, while buying the solvents for about Rs 30 per litre. Tests by the excise department confirmed the seized liquid contained ethanol and solvents. Woman's mutilated body found in Hathras, police arrest kin for murder
Agency: Last Updated: August 12, 2025, 20:00 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Hathras (UP), Aug 12 (PTI) Two days after a woman's mutilated body was found along a canal bank here, police arrested her father and step-grandfather in connection with the murder. The woman's stepmother has also been detained in the matter, police said. Investigations began on August 10 after villagers in the Bahardoi Shahbazpur area spotted the dismembered body near an irrigation canal. Five police teams were formed to investigate the case as initial efforts to identify the victim failed. On Monday, the police identified the victim as Tamanna (19) from Adhauna village in Akrabad, Aligarh district. Her uncle, Abdul Farahim Khan, confirmed the identity and lodged a complaint against unidentified persons. During the investigation, police found that the woman's father, Hasrat Ali, her step-mother, and the step-grandfather, Rajjo Pehalwan alias Raju from Alhaipur village in Hathras district, were involved in the murder, they said. On Tuesday morning, police arrested Hasrat and Rajjo near a canal in Salempur, and detained the stepmother from her parental home in Alhaipur. According to police, Hasrat had divorced Tamanna's mother six years ago and remarried, following which she lived with her father and stepmother. In July, she allegedly left home with a young man from Aligarh for a short time before returning. This allegedly enraged Hasrat and his second wife, leading to harassment and physical abuse, police said. On August 8, Tamanna left her home quietly in the afternoon but was intercepted by her father and stepmother near the Panethi Bridge in Aligarh. Fearing social stigma, the two plotted to kill her and also involved the step-father. Decomposing body found in house in northeast Delhi area
New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) A male body was found in a decomposing state in a house in northeast Delhi's Dayalpur area on Tuesday, police said. A call was received at Dayalpur Police Station at 1.42 pm about blood seeping from a room in Mata Vali Gali in New Chauhanpur. A team was rushed to the spot — a locked kitchen on the first floor of a building. 'A foul smell was emanating from the room. On breaking it open, a decomposed male body was found inside," an officer said. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the kitchen had been rented out to a man for storing plaster of Paris (POP) items.
