The BJP's spectacular success in electoral politics doubtless forced the Sangh to try and assimilate parivar outsiders who came with a cachet that could enhance the BJP's appeal and possibly its votes, like a celebrity from the cinema world or an individual belonging to a caste outside the BJP's purview. The Sangh's— and, by extension, the BJP's—net to snag trophies is spread across a vast expanse.
However, the welcome carries a quid pro quo—it is not one-sided, marked with a profusion of garlands and warm words. The red lines drawn by the Sangh are firmly etched beneath the ceremonial trappings. A lateral entrant must adhere to the precepts and practices laid down by the family head, and no dodging is brooked. Insubordination, even from a faithful, is never tolerated. Over time, some lateral entrants stayed the course, willingly or unwillingly; but those who ostensibly felt suffocated by the rigours of school-masterly discipline strayed away, quit and at times disappeared into oblivion.
The exit of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who last week resigned as the Vice President and chairman of the Rajya Sabha, is still riddled with unanswered questions, although his resignation letter maintained the departure was prompted by health concerns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's belated expression of commiseration with Dhankhar revealed how angry the PM was. Dhankhar was ushered into the BJP in 2003 as a prize catch from the opposition (he had served the Congress and the Janata Dal) and a peasant leader from the powerful Jat community.

Kharge criticises ECI, says poor and minorities ‘deliberately' excluded in SIR
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday criticised the Election Commission of India (ECI), calling the draft voters' list released during the special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral roll a 'deliberate' move to disenfranchise the poor, marginalised and minorities. 'They knew that if more people were allowed to enrol, the votes would go to Congress,' he said. 'Microphones are switched off the moment we try to speak,' he said. Kharge also spoke on the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar claiming that the BJP ousted him when he showed signs of independence. 'The moment he accepted the motion to impeach Justice Yashwant Varma, they saw him as a threat. They pressured him to withdraw or resign', he said. The 2003 Bihar SIR data was published days before the ECI launched the fresh exercise to revise the electoral roll on June 28 as a reference point for the submission of identification documents. Nearly 60% of the total electorate were not required to submit any documents. They had to verify their details and submit enumeration forms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Saturday, August 2, and launched multiple development projects worth around ₹ 2,200 crore. While addressing the public, he accused SP and Congress governments of spreading rumours and misleading people. As he launched the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme he said, 'Our government is working tirelessly for the welfare of farmers. The earlier governments did not even fulfil one scheme they had promised. BJP government delivers what it promises. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has become an example of the strong will and intentions of the government.' With plans to benefit over 9.7 crore farmers across the country, the scheme aims to offer direct financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Charging at the opposition, he said, 'The anti-development governments like SP and Congress would spread rumours and mislead people in all ways possible.' According to PIB's press release dated August 1, ₹ 3.69 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers' accounts through 19 instalments since the scheme's launch in 2019. "This is very unfortunate for the country that a hopeless opposition is living with these false hopes. All they can do is lie to the farmers and mislead them... PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has been ongoing without a break since its inception. So far, ₹ 3.75 lakh crore have been credited into he accounts of beneficiary farmers... Farmers of Kashi alone have received ₹ 900 crores," DD News quoted the Prime Minister as saying. The development projects aim to nurture and boost infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, urban development and cultural heritage sectors. The prime focus of the allocated funds would be to 'preserve culturally significant water bodies,' progressive work on 'water purification and maintenance works at various kunds including Ramkund, Mandakini, Shankuldhara and others.' Striving to achieve holistic urban transformation with improved road connectivity and power infrastructure, significant investment will be made on 'widening and strengthening of the Varanasi - Bhadohi road and Chhitauni- Shool Tankeshwar road; and Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur.' Educational projects in focus include upgradation of 53 school buildings within the municipal boundary, the construction of a new district library and the rejuvenation of Government High Schools at Jakhini and Lalpur, among others. From inaugurating Animal Birth Control Centre and an associated Dog Care Centre, PM Modi facilitated inauguration of advanced medical equipment installations, including robotic surgery and CT scan facilities.

The court found no evidence of explosives being stored or assembled at the residence of Prasad Purohit, another accused in the case. "No sketch of spot was done by the investigation officer while doing panchnama. No finger print , dump data or anything else was collected for the spot. The samples were contaminated so reports can't be conclusive and relied upon," the court said. The case dates back to September 29, 2008, when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Malegaon City's Bhikku Chowk, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuring 95 others.
