
OTB's Marni Names Meryll Rogge Creative Director
Rogge trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Antwerp before working in the studios of Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten.
The designer has staged shows in Paris for her namesake label since its founding in 2020, steadily building attention for her eclectic and festive yet functional designs and nuanced synthesis of references to fashion and culture from the 1980s to the present day.
In 2025, the label took home the grand prize at France's ANDAM program for supporting emerging fashion businesses. Jury member Sidney Toledano saluted her 'new vision of femininity imbued with modernity and wearability.'
Rogge's application of playful colours and textures to extravagant eveningwear and everyday, menswear-inspired silhouettes alike recalls Marni founder Consuelo Castiglioni's founding vision, which brought an off-kilter, eclectic energy to the bourgeois Milanese wardrobe.
Rogge succeeds Francesco Risso, who brought a crafty, DIY energy to Marni during a decade at the brand. But OTB struggled to build a consistent business around his vision following a post-pandemic bump.
'We met many highly qualified candidates, confirming how Marni continues to inspire and attract creatives from around the world. Meryll impressed us with the sensitivity she brought to reinterpreting the brand's DNA, offering a contemporary vision that embraces Marni globally and across all its dimensions — including accessories, interior design, communication, and special projects,' OTB chairman Renzo Rosso said in a statement.

The incident, which happened at a subcontracted jacket workshop Northwest of Milan, led to the arrest of the facility's Chinese owner and its immediate closure by the Carabinieri police department. According toBusiness of Fashion, the Carabinieri police found that the facility, which produced Loro Piana cashmere garments, employed 10 Chinese migrant workers, 5 of whom were undocumented. Forced to work as much as 90 hours a week, all 7 days, the laborers were only paid €4 an hour, and housed in illegal dwellings inside the factory. The Carabinieri police investigated two intermediary companies and three Chinese workshops located in Milan, finding that half of the workers were working without registration. In an official statement, Loro Piana disclosed that it 'acknowledges the notification received from the Court of Milan's Preventive Measure Section today regarding labor practices by undisclosed and unauthorized subcontractors of one of its suppliers.' The brand alleges that its supplier did not inform Loro Piana of its subcontractors and their labor violations, and 'terminated all relations with the concerned supplier in less than 24 hours,' after being notified on May 20. 'Loro Piana firmly condemns any illegal practices and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding human rights and compliance with all applicable regulations throughout its supply chain,' the statement said. The latest news comes as part of intensifying efforts to hold luxury brands responsible for labor exploitation, a crime that's not unique to Loro Piana's supply chain but symptomatic of a globalized system of worker abuses across the apparel industry. However, the Italian cashmere purveyor is only one of five luxury labels that have also been placed under recent administration by the same Milan court for labor concerns and andValentinoare some of the other notable brands that had their restrictions lifted in the last year, following steps to correct abuses. Among the most jarring details is often the disparity between how much garment workers make versus the final price tag, which for Loro Piana reaches more $5,000 for a cashmere jacket. According to the court ruling, one intermediary owner stated that she produced approximately 6,000-7,000 jackets per year for Loro Piana at €118 per jacket if the order was for more than 100 items, and €128 if the order was under 100 items. Though the disparity is not uncommon for a luxury brand, Loro Piana was already under particular scrutiny regarding the treatment of indigenous and immigrant workers. In 2024, it was revealed that an Indigenous Andean village reliant on Loro Piana's business gets paid roughly $280 for the same amount of Vicuna wool needed for garments priced as much as $9,000 USD. Bloomberg's2024report spotlighted Vicuna herder Andrea Barrientos in the Andean community of Lucanas, who shared that she and others receive none of the pay disbursed to their community. The woman had never seen a finished Loro Piana garment in her life, despite cultivating the highly sought-after camelid wool for a living. The most recent scandals reveal that sweatshop-like conditions are not isolated to the Global South and are very much alive in Europe. Though many of these cases involve European fashion conglomerates like LVMH, European governments are on the contrary, are pushing some of the most aggressive efforts to promote ethical production. In June,France's Senatevoted in favor of an unprecedented bill aimed at regulating fast fashion companies — a major development in efforts to mitigate the ecological impact of overconsumption. However, some critics pointed out that the measures focused on targeting Asian companies like Temu and Shein, while granting less severe regulations to European companies. Despite luxury brands' increasingly high margins and prices, many of their most crucial artisans and suppliers continue to be left with little to nothing. Europe's intensified measures to protect workers from labor abuses and mitigate the environmental impact of the fashion industry are paving the way for a more responsible system rooted in accountability. While many customers may never see the people who do the grueling work involved in creating luxuries, the influx of recent cases from the world's most respected purveyors is a sobering reminder of the injustices endured by the people and communities behind the product. Italian restaurant in Burns Harbor closes its doors as ownership dispute lands in court
The Pizza Terra restaurant in Burns Harbor suddenly closed its doors Monday as all of the interior equipment was removed as part of an ownership dispute between the business partners. Rolando 'Roly' Martinez filed a lawsuit Friday in Porter Superior Court against Jeremy Branshaw, his business partner, and Courtney R. Eaton, who was an employee. On Monday, all of the interior kitchen equipment, along with the tables and chairs, were removed from the restaurant's interior. A sign on the door said the eatery was closed for remodeling. 'There isn't the equipment to run a restaurant because all of it has been moved to a safe place,' said Patrick McEeun, a Portage attorney representing Martinez. 'Mr. Branshaw decided to slander Mr. Martinez, and he wasn't having it.' Branshaw refused to sign for any financial responsibility for the equipment, McEeun said. When the leasing company learned of the shareholder dispute, they advised Martinez that because he was guaranteeing the debt, he was authorized to remove the equipment to a safe and insured location, McEeun said. Martinez alleges in the lawsuit that Branshaw and Eaton conspired to 'defame' him and freeze him out of the operation. McEuen has asked the court to appoint a receiver to manage the assets of JGR Restaurant, Inc., which does business as 'Pizza Terra.' Martinez is a 50% owner in the business and was involved with the Gastro 49 Pub & Eatery in Chesterton and Big Time Burgers and Brews in Portage. 'I have spent almost two decades building a reputation for successful restaurants. I have never been burned by an investor or a partner,' Martinez said. 'I still believe in the Pizza Terra brand, and we hope to reopen with a new chef.' JGR Restaurant, Inc. formed in May 2022 to operate the Italian restaurant, which was located in a renovated service station at the corner of Ind. 149 and U.S. 20. Branshaw, who was working as a chef at Lucrezia Cafe in Chesterton, had agreed to be the head chef at Pizza Terra. While Branshaw was a partner, he invested a limited amount of money. Martinez stated that he obtained loans and oversaw the conversion of the service station building into a restaurant, which opened its doors in March 2023, the lawsuit says. There were problems from the start as Branshaw demanded that he be paid a $100,000 salary. Branshaw is also alleged in November 2024 to have filed a document that called for him to be listed as the 'governing person' for JGR with the Indiana Secretary of State's office. Branshaw is alleged to have fraudulently done this without Martinez's knowledge, the lawsuit says. Martinez was the subject of slanderous remarks that Branshaw made to employees, and Eaton joined in this activity, the lawsuit says. The situation came to a head earlier this year when Branshaw claimed that a person who had lent money to help start the business wasn't repaid. Martinez said the man had been paid the $5,000 he was owed. There was a showdown between Branshaw and Martinez when they met with the accountant in April. During that meeting, Martinez was served with a letter by Branshaw's attorney that claimed 'there has been alarming irregularities in the financial management, including improper payroll handling and cash payments to employees aimed at avoiding tax reporting and overtime compensation.' 'These actions not only compromise the financial integrity of Pizza Terra, but also place significant personal, financial, and legal burdens on Mr. Branshaw,' said the letter signed by Daniel Timm, the counsel for Branshaw. Timm, in his letter to Martinez in April, said that if the problems with payroll and business practices were not rectified, that Branshaw was 'prepared to initiate litigation immediately.' 'Our aim is to resolve these issues amicably; however, we are prepared to take further legal actions to protect Mr. Branshaw's interests and those of Pizza Terra.' Timm's letter said. The Post-Tribune left a message for Timm seeking additional comment Tuesday. Branshaw also made an offer to purchase the 50% share of the Pizza Terra business, the letter said. Martinez claims that Branshaw's offer was 'an extortion attempt' to gain control of the business because Branshaw was fully aware of the restaurant's financial operation, the lawsuit says.
