Week 16 schedule contains odd glitch for the Saturday games
Earlier this week, Fox announced that it will televise a Week 16 Saturday doubleheader featuring the Packers at the Bears and the Eagles at the Commanders. The official schedule contains an odd glitch regarding those games.
The NFL.com version of the 2025 schedule currently shows that those games will happen on Friday, December 19.
Also, the official website schedule for each of the four teams contains a TBD as to the time AND the date of the Week 16 games. (For confirmation — and acknowledging the possibility they might change it before you click on it — here are the Eagles, Commanders, Packers, and Bears.)
Again, there are other indications that the games are indeed set for Saturday, December 20. But if the use of 'Friday, December 19" on the main NFL.com schedule is a typo, it's a bizarre one. It wasn't the result of a misplaced finger; someone specifically picked Friday, December 19 as the date for those two games.
While there's no reason to think the games will be played on Friday, it makes us wonder whether at some point the plan was to play the games (which supposedly will begin at 4:30 p.m. ET and 8:00 p.m. ET) on Friday.
It meshes with the notion that, in time, the league will take even greater advantage of the fringes of the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, which allows the NFL to televise games on Friday night and Saturday before the second weekend in September and after the second weekend in December.
Is it crazy to think that, as of last week, those games were going to be played on Friday night and that, after Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) said in a committee hearing regarding the pivot from broadcasting to streaming that the NFL has 'tiptoed up to the rule,' the NFL decided to move the games from Friday to Saturday, which is the far more traditional spot for late-season non-Sunday games?
Whatever the explanation, it's one of the very weird things we noticed when scouring over the schedule. And it could be a sign that, sooner than later, late-season Fridays will become the newest spot in the pizza into which the cheese is stuffed.

The AmFam switched to the course that Stricker co-designed and also went to a team format, with 38 duos playing best ball in the first round. That's a first for golf's senior circuit. 'Certainly for me knowing Thomas' game so well made it so much easier for me to go out there and free it up today,' Clarke said. 'I really enjoy playing with him because I know he's there if I mess up, and likewise, I try to be there for him.' Steve Stricker is happy with course ... but not with his shots Stricker thought the course played well in its professional debut. 'We thought the scoring would be pretty good,' Stricker said. 'Weather, we knew it was going to be good today and it's going to be good tomorrow. 'The course is in great condition. But you have to play well going around here. You have to hit it in the fairway, and if you don't have two guys hitting it in the fairway, you put a lot of pressure on the other guys. That's what I'm sure some teams did. If you can get two balls in the fairway, you can actually get pretty aggressive and have a lot of opportunities for birdies.' There is added emotion with being a teammate. 'I was telling (wife and caddie) Nicki, that could have been a 10-under round pretty easily, really,' Stricker said. 'I left (Tiziani) hanging on these par 5s. 'On 7 I hit it in the hazard, 11 I didn't get it up over the top of the hill. Uncharacteristic of some of the things that I do, too. Kind of left him hanging on those holes where he's in perfect position. If you have another guy in there, kind of frees him up to hit a better chip or whatever the case may be. Yeah, not happy with how I left him hanging on some of those par 5s where we should have been making birdies.' Stricker also not feeling his best Stricker has battled numerous health problems over the past few years. Most serious was a mysterious illness in 2022 that sidelined the 58-year-old Edgerton native for several months in 2022, not long after captaining the U.S. team to a Ryder Cup victory at Whistling Straits. Lately, pain in his back, neck and shoulder has been nagging him, keeping him from a chunk of the Champions Tour schedule. 'Yeah, I'm frustrated,' Stricker said. 'I'm frustrated how I feel, to be quite honest because I don't feel like I'm capable of doing what I want to do. 'I actually hit a really couple, two good shots in a row at 13 and then again at 14, and then it was gone again. It's not … I don't know, I don't know what it is. Struggling to get through the ball in general, so that's frustrating.' Jerry Kelly talks about scramble format for second round Kelly was paired with Justin Leonard and ended up at 6-under. 'It was all right through the first 10,' said Kelly, a Madison native who won back-to-back AmFam titles in 2019 and 2021. 'We got through 5 and 9 ham-and-egging it. 'And then Justin made another one on 10 and, here we go, we've got a par 5 coming up. He hits one left, I top a 3-wood and basically … we didn't really have our best games from there on.' The unique format changes in the second round with a switch to a scramble. 'Tomorrow will be fun,' Leonard said. 'Just our games are very similar. 'Jerry's so consistent. I wasn't very consistent today. I found a little something late in the day and … look, we love playing golf, we love competing, we love playing together. 'To be able to do it in Jerry's hometown with the crowds tomorrow will be a lot of fun. And we'll make a few more birdies tomorrow and hopefully hear the crowds a little bit more than we did today.'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Josh Hines-Allen tipped the scales like never before in 2024. The seventh-year pro beefed up to 285 pounds at the behest of first-year (now former) Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, whose 'mass kicks ass' motto was a mainstay during the offseason and in training camp. It was catchy — and ultimately consequential. Hines-Allen and several defensive teammates swelled past the point of stout, and it showed on the field. The Jaguars ranked 31st in the NFL in total defense last season, allowing nearly 390 yards a game. They gave up 26 points a game, tied for second-most in the league, and finished with the fewest takeaways (nine). 'Holding a little bit more weight kind of puts a little bit more wear and tear on the body,' Hines-Allen said. 'It was a lot. Too much.' Hines-Allen won't blame his performance — he totaled eight sacks after notching a career-high 17 1/2 in 2023 — on the extra pounds. But he suspects they were related. 'My body was not cooperating as much as I would want it to,' Hines-Allen said. 'I take care of my body to the utmost, but it was a little bit different.' Hines-Allen insists it won't happen again. Although he declined to disclose his current weight, he looks and feels leaner. And he's hardly alone. Linebacker Devin Lloyd is down 15 pounds, from 255 to 240. Defensive end Travon Walker is a little lighter and has overhauled his body mass index. Veterans Arik Armstead, Foye Oluokun and DaVon Hamilton also are slimmer than last season — and the Jags expect it to pay dividends. 'Just the stamina aspect, bursts, getting out of breaks,' Lloyd said. 'It's a lot easier, a lot more natural. For me, the cardio aspect of it was the biggest deal. You're running all day, and after like four or five plays, you get tired. Now you can be a little more prolonged with your endurance.' Jacksonville owner Shad Khan cleaned house following last year's 4-13 finish. He fired coach Doug Pederson and later parted with general manager Trent Baalke. Nielsen, his defensive assistants and the entire strength and conditioning staff were let go once general manager James Gladstone, coach Liam Coen and executive vice president Tony Boselli took over. The first edict for the defense might as well have been 'mass is in the past.' 'I know that they'd put some weight on in order to play some of the schemes, structures that they were playing,' Coen said. 'That's just anybody's prerogative. That's the way they wanted to do it. 'Ultimately, just kind of evaluating it and talking to some of the players and trying to get them back down a little bit to maybe where they'd been when they'd had better years or been a little bit more productive. Definitely better for those guys to feel fresh.' Hines-Allen feels much fresher — and lighter on his feet. He reached 20 mph during workouts last week. 'I still got it,' he quipped. With weight off his mind for the first time in more than a year, Hines-Allen is now focused on staying healthier, being on the field more, becoming an All-Pro, earning Defensive Player of the Year and setting the franchise sack record. He has 53 sacks, two shy of tying Tony Brackens for the team mark set in 2003. 'I can't go into another season thinking about my weight,' Hines-Allen said. 'You know what I mean? That's why this year, coming back in that mindset and that weight class that I feel like I need to be, and it's dominant, it's fast, can move. 'I don't want to get off the field. … Get out, get a squirt of water, come back in and play four or five plays full speed and take over games.
