Commanders Will Ask Jayden Daniels To Improve in One Major Pocket Category
Few quarterbacks in league history enjoyed the success that Washington Commanders signal-caller Jayden Daniels saw in his rookie campaign.

The Heisman Trophy winner and second overall pick helped lead the Commanders to the NFC title game for the first time in over 30 years. Only five other rookie quarterbacks outside of Daniels have accomplished that feat over the course of NFL history.

As Daniels prepares for a second season in the league, a big focus is on how the former LSU star can improve.
CBS Sports writer Zachary Pereles highlighted the key part of Daniels' game that needs to improve for the 2025 season.
"Though accurate in general and incredibly accurate outside the pocket, Daniels had an 11.2-percent off-target rate on throws in the pocket, 25th out of 36 qualifying quarterback," Pereles wrote. "While the misses weren't way off, Daniels did leave some open throws on the field when his mobility wasn't a factor."

We don't want to get too bogged down in advanced stats, but improving accuracy in the pocket is a reasonable ask.
And part of the beauty of it all? Is it possible that this one thing - major as it is - is really the only statistical deficiency in the kid's hame?
If this exists as being the one thing Daniels must improve on, it only highlights just how grand his 2024 performance really was ... and how much promise exists in the presence and future of the QB and his Commanders

Sean McVay noticing a change in Stetson Bennett's confidence this season
Quarterback Stetson Bennett never appeared to lack confidence when he was leading Georgia to back-to-back national titles. And for the first time since the Rams drafted him in 2023, Bennett is practicing with an obvious spring in his step. With starter Matthew Stafford sidelined because of a back issue, and Jimmy Garoppolo running the first-team offense, Bennett has impressed while working with the second unit. 'Everything is just more comfortable,' Bennett said Thursday after a full pads practice at Loyola Marymount. 'When you watched him play at Georgia, and even some of the preseason games, when he gets into a rhythm and he's smiling, all these great competitors, there's an enjoyment for mastering their craft and enjoyment of just being totally immersed in the moment, and then enjoyment of your teammates' success.' Rangers add veteran right-hander Merrill Kelly in a trade with the Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — The Texas Rangers acquired right-hander Merrill Kelly from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, adding a veteran starter with postseason experience to fortify their rotation at the trade deadline. The D-backs received three minor league pitchers: left-handers Kohl Drake and Mitch Bratt and right-hander David Hagaman. The 36-year-old Kelly has spent all of his seven major league seasons leagues with the Diamondbacks. He was the only Arizona pitcher to beat the Rangers in the 2023 World Series, throwing seven dominant innings in Game 2. Kelly is 9-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 121 strikeouts over 128 2/3 innings this season. The Rangers entered Thursday with a 57-52 record, tied with the Seattle Mariners for the final American League wild-card spot. The D-backs were sellers at the deadline, sending first baseman Josh Naylor and third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Mariners in separate deals. Outfielder Randal Grichuk was shipped to the Royals. Arizona is 51-58 after entering the season with playoff expectations. General manager Mike Hazen said it was particularly tough to lose Kelly, given his history with the organization.
