Aluko left out of final line-ups
Eni Aluko
, a regular face on
TNT Sports
' football coverage throughout the season, has been dropped from the broadcaster's punditry team for the three upcoming men's European finals — the
UEFA Champions League
, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League. The 38-year-old former Chelsea and Juventus forward, who earned 105 caps for the Lionesses and scored 33 goals, has notably been involved in covering Chelsea's journey to the Conference League final, including matches against Panathinaikos, Noah, Bournemouth, and Copenhagen.
However, TNT Sports has confirmed she will not be part of the line-up for Chelsea's final clash with Real Betis on May 28 in Wroclaw, Poland. Aluko has not appeared on match coverage since March 27, when Chelsea played Manchester City in the Women's Champions League. Her absence from TNT Sports' European final coverage was first reported by the Daily Mail.
Public row with Ian Wright and its fallout
Aluko's omission follows a high-profile fallout with fellow pundit and former England striker Ian Wright. At the end of April, she also stepped down from co-hosting the Women's Football Awards, a prestigious event, amid the controversy.
Aluko had publicly questioned Wright's role in women's football, suggesting that men occupying positions in the women's game could limit opportunities for female broadcasters. Speaking about the issue, Aluko said:
'I've worked with Ian a long time and, you know, I think he's a brilliant broadcaster, but I think he's aware of just how much he's doing in the women's game.
The fact of the matter is, there is a limited amount of spaces available. If we had a situation where there was an equal opportunity in the men's game for broadcasters and coaches that there is in the women's game, it's a free for all.'
After backlash, Aluko issued a public apology on social media, but Wright refused to accept it. He responded by saying:
'I'm very disappointed by what Eni has said.
She knows how I have helped her and supported her publicly, and I know the previous conversations she's had with me and my management.
I've seen the apology on social media, but I can't accept it, but I also want to move on from it. I don't need any further social commentary directed at anyone.'
Crouch also left out as TNT confirms final broadcast team
Peter Crouch
, another TNT regular, has also been left off the broadcaster's team for all three European finals. According to Mail Online, Crouch has not featured in European match coverage since January but has continued to contribute to
Premier League
broadcasts — most recently for Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Chelsea.
Instead, TNT Sports has announced a refreshed line-up of pundits and commentators for the finals. For the UEFA Champions League final in Munich and the Europa League final in Bilbao, commentary will be led by Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist. The Europa Conference League final will feature commentary from Adam Summerton and Lucy Ward.

Indian junior women's hockey team beats Belgium 3-2

The Indian junior women's hockey team made a positive start to its tour of Europe with a 3-2 win over hosts Belgium here on Sunday. India opened the scoring through Geeta Yadav (11th minute). However, in the second quarter, Belgium equalised through Marie Goenns (25th). Soon Belgium took the lead as Louise van Hecke (34th) found the back of the net. India made a valiant comeback and levelled the scores through Sonam (40th). The visitors continued to attack, and the tactic paid off as they won a penalty corner soon, which was converted by Lalthantluangi (45th). After that, the Indians did not let Belgium get the equaliser with some stout defending. India will again play Belgium on June 10 in the second game of their European tour.

Tennis-Alcaraz and Sinner French Open final scaled new heights, agree former champions

PARIS, - Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner took tennis to a level above that reached by even the sport's golden generation during their spellbinding French Open final on Sunday, according to a host of former Roland Garros champions. Spaniard Alcaraz, 22, saved three successive match points as he hit back from two sets down to win 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6 in front of a mesmerised Paris crowd. At five hours and 29 minutes it was the longest final at Roland Garros, smashing the previous record set by Sweden's Mats Wilander when he beat Guillermo Vilas in 1982. "The level at the end was absolutely ridiculous," Wilander, analysing the final for broadcaster TNT, said. "I cannot believe we will have this rivalry. They have taken our sport to another level. I never thought I'd say that after the big three Roger , Rafa and Novak - but its actually faster than ever and a level that is hard to believe." Between them the players struck 123 winners and the quality was unrelenting as the final swayed one way and then another as they went toe-to-toe. The final points tally was 193-192 in Sinner's favour but he fell agonisingly short of becoming the first Italian man to win the claycourt title since Adriano Panatta in 1976. "I've seen Federer and Nadal and they played a couple of good finals but nothing comes close to this," Wilander said. "I thought 'this is not possible' they're playing at a pace that is not human. These are two of the best athletes the human race can put forward and they happen to be tennis players. I'm not speechless often but what a wonderful day." It was the first Grand Slam final meeting between the two Gen X trailblazers who have now scooped seven out of the last eight Grand Slam titles and with Sinner only 23, they look set to create a rivalry as compelling as those between Nadal, Federer and Djokovic. "The first final between these two. Celestial tennis from Alcaraz in that final tie breaker," said another former French Open champion Jim Courier, who commentated on the match for TNT. "There are days that tennis players don't forget." Seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe said both would have beaten record 14-time French Open champion and claycourt king Nadal at his peak. "You would make a serious argument with both guys that they would be favoured to beat Nadal, at his best," the American said. "These two guys right now, it's like when you watch the NBA and you say nobody could be better than Michael Jordan. The tennis level right now is higher than I've ever seen." Former Roland Garros winner Andre Agassi also sounded an ominous warning for anyone hoping to dethrone Alcaraz at Wimbledon where this year he will seek a hat-trick of titles. "Alcaraz's best surface to me, shockingly would be between here and Wimbledon. I'd actually say grass might be his best surface," the American, who presented the trophy, said. "I mean, you gotta remember this guy has defence and speed like Novak, if not more. He has feel like Federer, you could argue at times if not more. He has RPMs in pace like Rafa. You could argue maybe even more."
