Gurgaon woman (61) loses 1.7L to cyber cons in credit card fraud
Gurgaon: A 61-year-old woman lost Rs 1.69 lakh to cyber fraudsters on the pretext of getting a credit card from a private bank online. Promila Kukreja of Sector 83 saw an advertisement on social media and applied for the credit card on July 12, following which she lost the amount from her two bank accounts. Kukreja, a retired govt employee, told police that after applying for the card online, she lost nearly Rs1 lakh from one account and Rs 70,000 from another account on the same day. Two, including US national, held for trying to convert people by offering financial help
Pune: Two men — a 41-year-old US national and a Pimpri resident — were arrested on Sunday night on the charge of trying to convert people by offering financial help. Sachin Hire, assistant commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad police, said the US national, Schaefer Javin Jacob of California, currently residing at Mukai Chowk in Kiwale, and Steven Kadam (46) of Ajmera Pimpri were charged under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The US national was also booked under the relevant sections of the Foreigners Act for violating visa norms. "We also detained a 16-year-old boy with the duo and handed him over to his mother," Hire said. Inspector Vijayanand Patil of the Pimpri police said the trio on Sunday morning went to the complainant's house and told him that he would get "happiness, peace, wealth, and good mental health" if he converted from his religion. "They also assured him of financial assistance in future after his conversion," Patil said. 34-year-old held for blackmailing men she met on social media
Ghaziabad: A 34-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly blackmailing people with false rape allegations after befriending them on social media platforms. Police recovered Rs 40,200 and a mobile phone used in the crime from accused Uzma Malik. Nimish Patil, DCP Trans-Hindon, said that on July 27, a written complaint by Shahnavaz, a resident of Rajendra Nagar's Sector 2, stated that the accused blackmailed the complainant's brother, Aqib, through a honeytrap on Instagram, demanding Rs 10 lakh by threatening to frame him in a false rape case. "A case was registered under Section 308(5) (extortion) BNS in Shalimar Garden police station. On July 28, based on an informant's tip-off, the accused was arrested near Khetan Sports Complex in Shalimar Garden. The case was updated to include Section 317(2) (dishonestly receiving stolen property) BNS," he said. "During interrogation, the accused confessed to befriending Aqib on Instagram and luring him into her trap under the pretence of meeting.
