Kaizer Chiefs will enter a make-or-break season under coach Nasreddine Nabi, which is why the players need to blend quickly and hit the ground running.
Chiefs finished ninth in the Betway Premiership last season, a disappointing result given their high hopes for the campaign.
So despite winning the Nedbank Cup and ending their 10-year trophy drought, there were still calls for Nabi to be sacked.
However, the management decided to retain the Tunisia-born coach, backing him with adequate preparations and squad depth.

Chiefs toured the Netherlands last month, playing five training matches against Dutch outfits. They lost four and won one.
The club also strengthened the squad with six new players: Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Flavio Silva, and Nkanyiso Shinga.
Silva, however, faced criticism for his performances in the Netherlands, as the Portugal-born striker appeared out of sorts in the final third.
Nabi said he was surprised to hear such reports and has backed the 29-year-old to adapt in time.
'I was a little surprised to hear about the negative comments, but as long as the player has signed for Kaizer Chiefs, it's our duty to work with him,' Nabi said.
'We also have to give him time to adapt. That doesn't only apply to Flavio but to anyone new, which is why I won't single him out.
'We need to put other players in the same bracket, including the younger ones coming from the DStv Diski Challenge team.'
After Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Wandile Duba showed flashes of brilliance last season, Nabi has backed the youngsters to grow in leaps and bounds this year.
'We believe that the competition those players are going to face will make them better and improve their performances,' Nabi said.
'Without competition, young players sometimes lose focus, and after a few months, they won't be consistent.
'But we are going to need everyone to step up and raise their hands this season, not just Duba or Shabalala.
'We are going to need Naledi (Hlongwane), Thulani (Mabaso), and Matlaba (Nkgwesa) because of the developments this season.'
Coach Update
We regret to inform our supporters that Coach Nasreddine Nabi will not be traveling with the team to Cape Town for our opening game of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC this Sunday.https://t.co/ektYRGBARu #Amakhosi4Life pic.twitter.com/jPjcIOPC5C — Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) August 8, 2025

Orlando Pirates' Karim Kimvuidi has packed and departed the OR Tambo International Airport after another disappointing season in Soweto. Kaizer Chiefs signings: Three defenders and four attackers With Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou under the microscope, club legend Edward Motale has spotted two key areas the team must fix before facing Mamelodi Sundowns. The Sea Robbers fans hoped for a bright start with Ouaddou at the helm, but losses to Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants have raised doubts over whether the 46-year-old can turn things around. In the build-up to this weekend's epic MTN8 semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns, Motale has offered a positive preview. 'There's lot of positives, there's a lot of good things, I mean you look at the stats, from the previous game they had 18 shots, it shows they are attacking, it's just that they are not scoring…' Full story here. 'I can't save him,' says Gavin Hunt as bad boy Mahlambi pops up at Durban City

Phakamani Mahlambi has resurfaced in the Betway Premiership, with Durban City FC handing the troubled forward a trial as he looks to rescue a career that once promised to light up South African football. The 27-year-old has been without a club for nearly four years, his last top-flight appearance coming in September 2021 for Chippa United. That outing — a second-half cameo in a 2-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC — ended with a torn Achilles tendon, cutting short his season and sparking a long spell on the sidelines. For Mahlambi, whose raw pace and flair once made him the country's most exciting young attacker, the fall from grace has been steep. His professional debut came under Gavin Hunt at Bidvest Wits in the 2015/16 season, and within two years, he was securing a dream move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly. But his time in North Africa lasted just one season before returning home to join Mamelodi Sundowns. Game time was scarce at Chloorkop, leading to a loan move to Chippa United in 2021 — where he linked up again with Hunt. Injuries, discipline issues, and inconsistency meant that momentum was never sustained. He nearly reunited with Hunt a third time at SuperSport United after a trial stint but never signed. Now, the pair find themselves together again at newly promoted Durban City, with the coach offering him a final platform to prove his worth. 'I can't revive him, he's got to revive himself, I can only give him the platform,' Hunt said after Durban City's 1-0 win over Chippa United at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday. 'He's like any football player — I give the platform, the opportunity, but he's young. I mean, he was the brightest talent in South Africa, wasn't he?
