KOTA KINABALU (May 25): Two motorcyclists died in two separate accidents on Sunday.
In the first incident near the Kibing Solar factory in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, a 32-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a ten-tonne container lorry.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said a 24-man team rushed to the scene upon being informed at 11.12am.
'The team retrieved a victim who was trapped under a lorry. He was later pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene.
'The body was handed over to police for further procedures,' he said in a statement, adding that the lorry driver was not injured.
In the second incident near Kampung Meruntum in Putatan, a 42-year-old local man was pronounced dead following a collision with a car around 4.20am.
According to Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton, early investigation found that the incident occurred when the car, driven by a 55-year-old man, was heading from Petagas to Papar.
'When the car driver reached near the Lok Kawi Camp, a collision occured with the motorcycle, which was suspected to have been going against the flow of traffic heading from Kinarut to Putatan.
'The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers, and the body was sent to Hospital Queen Elizabeth I for autopsy,' he said in a statement, adding that the car driver was not hurt.
Sammy said the case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and he called for the public with information on the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Amrin Mohamad Arif at 017-6638278.
Police also advised the public to be careful on the road and to not spread any images or videos of the incident on social media to protect the sensitivity of the victim's family.
