#SHOWBIZ: BTS' RM wins favourite K-pop artiste at 2025 American Music Awards
SEOUL: The leader of K-pop supergroup BTS, RM, has won the Favourite K-Pop Artiste Award at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs).
The award was presented during the ceremony, which took place at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
The Favourite K-Pop Artiste category was first introduced in 2022, with BTS taking home the inaugural trophy.
Rose of BlackPink was nominated in the Collaboration Of The Year category for her song 'APT' with global pop icon Bruno Mars but did not win the award.
The prize went to Mars and Lady Gaga for their collaboration, 'Die With A Smile'.
Pop sensation Billie Eilish was the night's big winner, securing seven awards including Artiste Of The Year, Album Of The Year, and Song Of The Year for her latest release, 'Hit Me Hard And Soft'.
First launched in 1974, the American Music Awards is one of the most influential pop music award shows in the US, alongside the Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards.
The AMAs returned this year after a three-year hiatus.
BTS had previously won awards at the ceremony for five consecutive years, from 2018 to 2022.

While the situation in Korea remains relatively stable, the agency warned that a summer resurgence is possible due to international travel and regional outbreaks. Malaysia's first female K-pop idol Alicia Wong Lingling has finally made her industry debut recently, with the release of her group KIIRAS' first single. On May 29, its agency Leanbranding officially released the music video for Kill Ma Bo$$, which is currently racking up 262,151 views and over 28,000 likes on YouTube. It has also received positive reviews for its fresh Americana and Country R&B concept, riding at the back of the popular musical trend. With an overdriven guitar line at the background, the song is a fierce, playful anthem about taking control, breaking free from authority, and owning one's power with confidence, charm, and a rebellious killer attitude. Taking centre stage was none other than group leader Lingling, donning a denim vest, cowboy hat and riding a horse. She radiates youthful charm and lively energy, while alongside her, KIIRAS members captivate viewers with dynamic choreography and colourful styling. ASTRO Rapper JinJin Exempted From Military Service Due To Autoimmune Condition
In South Korea, men have to serve in the military when they become adults, as mandated by the government. K-pop idols are not exempt from this law, which often leads to a heartwarming goodbye to their fans and promises from the other party that they will always wait for their favourite stars. On the 2nd June (Monday), entertainment agency, Fantagio (판타지오), revealed that K-pop group ASTRO's (아스트로) leader JinJin (진진) has been excused from serving in the military. The rapper was exempted from military service because of health reasons involving an autoimmune condition. With ASTRO member Cha Eun Woo (차은우) releasing his enlistment dates last month (29th May), AROHAs (ASTRO fans) have been wondering when the 29-year-old leader would start serving his country. Speculation grew across fan communities, with many expressing support and curiosity about JinJin's plans. According to Fantagio's statement, JinJin had been going to medical checkups but was deemed by his doctor to be unfit for military service. The idol had been suffering from issues relating to a disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its healthy tissues and cells. While the condition isn't too severe, it requires the idol to have frequent visits to the hospital for examinations. While the singer himself hasn't made any updates on how he is doing, AROHAs shared well wishes on JinJin's Instagram to wish him good health.
