Bayern Munich star slams tearful Gianluigi Donnarumma over Jamal Musiala injury
Manuel Neuer has hit out at Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after a collision with Jamal Musiala left the Bayern Munich star with a serious injury.
The sickening incident happened during the Club World Cup quarter-final clash between the French and German giants.
Musiala was challenging PSG defender Willian Pacho when Donnarumma dived to grab the ball in the penalty area.
There was an awkward collision and Musiala was left in agony after his leg was caught under the Italian's body, with his ankle horribly bent out of shape.
German publication BILD have since reported that he will be out for 4-5 months due to a broken left fibula and damage to several ligaments.
Donnarumma was visibly distraught by the situation, in tears after the incident, but Neuer has pointed the finger at his opposite number.
The Bayern and Germany legend said: 'It was a situation where you don't have to go in like that. That's risk-taking. He was prepared to accept the risk of injuring his opponent.'
In a further rebuke of his fellow goalkeeper, Neuer claimed that Donnarumma had not expressed much sympathy for his stricken opponent.
'I went to him and said, 'Don't you want to go and see our player?' It's a matter of respect, of going there and wishing the guy all the best,' said the German.
'He then did it. Fair play is always a part of it. I would have reacted differently.'
Donnarumma was obviously upset by the incident on the field and did send a message to Musiala on social media after the match.

He wrote on Instagram: 'All my prayers and well wishes are with you @jamalmusiala10 🙏🏽.'
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany said his blood was boiling over the incident, but did not blame Donnarumma, he was just upset for his player who has only just returned from another injury.
'For these guys, it's their life,' said Kompany. 'Someone like Jamal lives for this, and he came back from a setback, and then it happens in the way it happens and you feel powerless.

'But the idea for the group and for us is always to gain strength out of it.

'So you try and get strength out of it because you want to do it for Jamal, but of course it's… when I'm sat here next to you now… the thing that gets my blood still boiling at the moment, it's not the result.
'I understand this is football but it's the fact that it happened to someone that enjoys the game so much, but he's also very important for us.'
PSG won the game 2-0 with goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, booking a place in the Club World Cup semi-finals where they will face Real Madrid.

‘A real shock': Bayern Munich confirm Musiala out for long period with leg fracture
Bayern Munich have said Jamal Musiala faces a 'lengthy' recovery from a leg fracture after his collision with Paris Saint-Germain's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Club World Cup. Bayern said on Sunday that Musiala had flown back from Florida to Munich that morning for surgery on the injury the attacking midfielder picked up in Saturday's loss to PSG in the quarter-finals. Bayern said doctors found Musiala 'sustained a fracture of the fibula [a bone in the lower leg] associated with a broken and dislocated ankle'. The Bayern board member for sport, Max Eberl, said in a statement: 'This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all.' 'This hits FC Bayern. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team. Furthermore, there's also a huge human impact and we all feel for him. Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He'll get everything he needs from us. We'll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he's back on the pitch.' The Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was fiercely critical of Donnarumma over the incident on Saturday. '[This is] a situation where you don't have to go in like that; that's reckless,' he said. 'He accepts the risk of injuring his opponent … It's a question of respect to go over and wish the guy all the best. He did it afterwards. Fairness is always important. I would have reacted differently.' Vincent Kompany added that he had 'rarely been so angry' over an incident on the pitch. 'Someone like Jamal lives for this [game],' the Bayern head coach said. 'He's here after a setback and something like this happens. And you feel powerless.' After the match, Donnarumma posted on Instagram: 'All my prayers and well wishes are with you Jamal.' The PSG manager, Luis Enrique, said Musiala was ''very unlucky that Gigi fell on him … I wish him the best. There is no bad intent.'

FIFA slash Chelsea tickets to less than cost of a beer in bid to swell crowd
The revamped Club World Cup has come in for plenty of criticism and tickets for the semi-final match between Chelsea and Fluminense have been slashed to less than £10 Ticket prices for Chelsea's Club World Cup semi-final clash against Fluminense on Tuesday have been slashed, with fans now able to attend the game for less than it would cost to buy a beer at the stadium. A standard admission ticket was reduced to just $13.40 (£9.81) on Saturday, having been priced at $473.90 (£347) less than three days earlier. And that means the tickets are cheaper than the cost of a beer at the MetLife Stadium where the game is being held, which is priced at $14 (£10.25). According to the Athletic, the move comes as FIFA look to bolster the tournament's attendances with Gianni Infantino hoping to 'demonstrate proof of concept' to clubs, broadcasters and sponsors. FIFA have come in for criticism for using dynamic pricing for the tournament, while former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has claimed the expanded Club World Cup is the "worst idea ever implemented in football" due to the extra demands on players Speaking to German outlet Welt, Klopp said: "The Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football in this regard. People who have never had anything to do with day-to-day business or who no longer have anything to do with it come up with something. "I understand those who say 'But the money you get for participating is insane'. But it's not for every club. Last year it was the Copa and the European Championship, this year the Club World Cup, and next year the World Cup. "That means no real recovery for the players involved, neither physically nor mentally. Of course, they all earn a lot of money. But let's leave that aside for a moment. An NBA player who also earns really good money has four months off every year. "Virgil van Dijk hasn't even had that in his entire career. Tournaments like the Club World Cup cannot be held on the backs of the players. I don't wish that on anyone, but I have a big fear. "That players will suffer injuries they've never had before next season. If not in the next season, then it will happen at the World Cup or afterward. We constantly expect the lads to go into every game as if it were their last. "We tell them that 70 or 75 times a year. But it can't go on like this. We have to make sure they have breaks, because if they don't get them, they won't be able to deliver top performances in the long run – and if they can't do that anymore, the entire product loses value for the sellers. "I once had a pre-season of two and a half weeks in which all my players were at my disposal. Two and a half weeks – and then we played practically every three days for a year afterwards. That's brutal."

Watford revealed their new home kit, manufactured by Kelme for a sixth year running and sponsored by MrQ Casino, to fans last week. However, fans tore into the kit upon seeing a bold blue font for MrQ Casino. One fan on social media remarked: "This is what hell must looks like," while another added: "Can it get any worse." Recognising this, the Hornets took the decision to NOT SHOW the kit their players will wear on the pitch next season in the kit marketing material. A statement said: "On-pitch, players' shirts will feature front of shirt sponsorship from MrQ, though, mindful that the new, blue MrQ Casino logo may not reflect the values or preferences of all supporters, the shirt will once again be available to buy unbranded." On social media, the club also commented: "The logo on our new shirt isn't to everyone's taste. "We really liked the previous black logo and we had lots of dialogue over the summer as we wanted to keep it black to complement the new shirt. Despite it not being on their marketing material, fans do still have the option to buy the branded shirt in the club's website. I grabbed director of football by the throat and picked him off the floor in front of my team-mates, reveals Troy Deeney The men's adult home shirt is available for £60, the same price as the unbranded version. This is the same for the women's team. MrQ and Watford first partnered together in 2023. The betting brand previously had a black and white logo, which had complemented Watford's bright yellow colours. Reacting on social media, one fan said: "We're supposed to be Hornets... yellow and black." A second said: "The blue logo is just wrong." Another said: "So much better without sponsor." A fourth said: "That blue MrQ branding is also next-level bad." Furthermore, for the first time, the shirt is crafted from recycled polyester, reflecting the club's commitment to sustainability. Last season, Watford finished 14th in the Championship table. The club go into next season with Paulo Pezzolano in charge after being announced as their new manager in May.
