Bengaluru stampede probe intensifies
Bengaluru: The one-man judicial commission led by retired High Court Justice John Michael Cunha has stepped up its probe into the tragic stampede that occurred outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, which claimed 11 lives and left over 50 others injured. The commission is now calling upon the public to provide any information, evidence, or testimonies related to the incident.
Following the shocking tragedy during the RCB celebration event, the state government had constituted multiple investigation panels, including a magisterial inquiry, a CID probe, and the judicial commission headed by Justice Cunha to independently uncover the causes and accountability behind the stampede.
The Home Department has issued a formal public notice inviting citizens who possess relevant facts or firsthand knowledge of the incident to submit their statements and documents to the commission.
People willing to assist the inquiry can submit their signed affidavits and supporting evidence in duplicate. The materials must be sent along with a scanned copy of the affidavit to the commission's official email ID: [email protected] on or before June 24.
Alternatively, physical documents can be sent via courier to the commission's office at: Room No. 12, First Floor, Old Building, Kumarakrupa Guest House, Bengaluru – 560001.
This initiative aims to bring transparency and comprehensiveness to the inquiry, ensuring that any overlooked details or eyewitness accounts are included in the final findings.
The stampede occurred during a public event organized to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL journey. Eyewitnesses had reported overcrowding and inadequate crowd management as major factors. The chaos outside the stadium gates resulted in a deadly crush, disproportionately affecting women and children.
The tragedy sparked statewide outrage, with several demanding accountability from the police and event organizers. The government responded by suspending several officials and ordering a multi-layered investigation.
Justice Cunha's commission is expected to submit a detailed report after completing a thorough examination of all available evidence, including public submissions. The findings will play a key role in determining lapses in protocol and recommending safeguards for future
public events.

Delhi HC denies further interim bail to woman suffering from cancer, directs best treatment
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant interim bail to a woman accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and is suffering from cancer, noting the submissions of prosecution that her ailment can certainly be taken care of even during her stay in jail. However, the court has directed to provide her best treatment at hospital of her choice at the expense of government. The High Court said, "... accused, being in judicial custody , it is the duty of the State to ensure her well-being and right to good health." Justice Girish Kathpalia rejected Jyoti 's interim bail plea and directed her to surrender before the jail authorities on June 15. The High Court considered the submissions that she is a bad character of the area. She has 29 cases against her, out of these 4 are under NDPS Act. In the present case, 480 grams of heroin were recovered from the accused Jyoti. "I find substance in submission that the rigours of Section 37 NDPS Act cannot be ignored by the Court," Justice Kathpalia observed. For, the only response prescribed by law to crime is curtailment of the criminal liberty and when that is done, the prisoner, be it under-trial prisoner or a convict comes in custody of the State." He further said that Medical treatment is also a matter of faith of the patient in the doctor, which has a vital role in recovery, so if the patient wants to be treated by a particular doctor, her/his right should not be curtailed. On June 6, the Delhi High court has granted interim bail to accused Jyoti till June 15. She had approached the High court after trial court refused to extend her interim bail on June 4. The High Court had sought a medical status report. "The applicant is enlarged on interim bail on medical grounds till June 15, subject to the applicant furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1,00,000 with one surety of the like amount subject to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent/Trial Court," high court ordered on June 4. Petitioner is an accused in an NDPS Act and was granted interim bail on May 19, 2025 till June 15 on the medical grounds in view of her condition. Senior advocate Amit Chaddha, counsel for the applicant, submitted that as per the Diagnosis Report of the hospital dated June 2, the applicant, Ms Jyoti, aged 39 years, is suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia , an uncommon and rare kind of cancer.

One of the victims who succumbed to the tragedy was Tamil Nadu's Kamatchi. Aged 27, Kamatchi was from the Tiruppur district and was working as an IT employee in Bengaluru. She had gone to witness the Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrations at the Chinnaswamy Stadium before things turned worse. Kamatch is the daughter of S. Moorthy and S. Rajalakshmi, the correspondent of Vivekanda Vidyalaya Matriculation School near Myvadi near Udumalpet. Both parents and other relatives of Kamatchi rushed to Bengaluru to collect her body and bring it back to their hometown and complete the final rites.

Bengaluru stampede: Two senior IAS officers under scanner over RCB felicitation mishandling
The Karnataka government is now scrutinising the involvement of two senior IAS officers in the organisation of a felicitation event for IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 4, which preceded a stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian Express reported. According to the report, the investigation includes a close look at miscommunications and decisions made by top officials, including the former political secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Indian Express report also reveals that these officers were instrumental in persuading the Congress-led state government to approve an official state felicitation at the Vidhana Soudha, even as the Bengaluru police had raised red flags over crowd control and security clearances. DPAR secretary Sathyavathi G, who oversaw the Vidhana Soudha event after receiving approvals from the chief secretary and CM, had publicly stated that a victory parade would follow the felicitation. This was despite the absence of a police green light for such a parade. Video recordings from her media address on June 4 show her urging fans to skip the Vidhana Soudha event due to security sensitivities and instead attend the stadium celebration. However, the report also suggests that her public remarks contradicted a meeting held earlier that day, where the city police commissioner reportedly objected to the parade. Police have since filed criminal complaints against RCB, KSCA, and event manager DNA Networks, alleging that social media messages promoting an open-access parade were shared without police clearance as early as 7 am on June 4, contributing to crowd chaos at the stadium. The role of K Govindaraju, the CM's former political secretary and a seasoned sports administrator, is also under scrutiny. Reports say he was pivotal in pushing through approvals for the celebrations. Following the tragedy, he was dismissed from his post on June 6, the report further added. Three senior IPS officers, including Police Commissioner B Dayananda, were suspended on June 5 for failing to keep the CM informed of unfolding developments, including the fatalities.
