‘Twinkle Khanna couldn't carry a movie on her shoulders, she was not right for Mela': Suneel Darshan had ‘no choice' but to give in to Aamir Khan's demands
In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, he said that casting Twinkle in the film was a mistake, and that it required a more seasoned star instead. Mela was directed by Suneel's brother, Dharmesh Darshan. He said, 'The original story of Mela was written be me. The title was mine. They went ahead and made the movie. They cast Twinkle Khanna in the movie, which was a miscasting. The movie needed a Karisma Kapoor, and unfortunately, she was not cast in the film. You needed a girl who could carry the movie on her shoulders. I felt that she was not right for the movie.'

Suneel said that changes were made to the original story that he'd written, and that Aamir needed to take his permission before enforcing certain changes. The most important change, he said, was introducing the character that was played by Faisal. He wasn't a part of the original story. 'He added the brother's character. Otherwise, everything else was mine. At a later point, Aamir realised that they needed some permissions and consent. He got through to me, and I had no choice but to agree.'
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama earlier this year, Dharmesh Darshan was asked if Aishwarya Rai was the first choice for Mela. He said, 'She was. She was also my first choice for the role of Memsaab in Raja Hindustani (1996). My heart was on her. But she urgently had to go for Miss World. I didn't want to take any chances as I wanted an actress who could devote her full time to the film and Bollywood. It was her sheer grace that she didn't hold it in her heart.'

While promoting one of her books, Twinkle had said at an event, 'I have not given any hit film. Whatever films I have done should be banned and (no one should watch) it. Most of the time, I pretend I have Alzheimer's and I don't remember my film career and it makes me happy that ways.' The film Mela had major ripple effects. Not only did it end Twinkle and Faisal's careers, it also caused a rift between Suneel and Dharmesh, which hasn't been repaired to this day.
Speaking about their falling out, Suneel admitted that their parents tried to patch things up, but that they have all realised that some things are best left alone. 'Some things don't work out. People have their own thinking, and approach, and attitude. It's best to accept and move on, instead of… My parents were always hopeful that the brothers would be together, but it was not destined to happen,' he said.

Not Dhanush but Ranbir Kapoor was Aanand L Rai's 1st choice opposite Sonam Kapoor for Raanjhana because…
Raanjhana, starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush, is one of the iconic love sagas to have ever come out of Bollywood. The story touched the hearts of everyone, and it still continues to be one of his most loved films. But, can you imagine someone else playing Kundan? No right! But, in an earlier interview, the director had revealed that his first choice was Ranbir Kapoor, whom he felt would be perfect. Why did Aanand L Rai want to cast Ranbir Kapoor in Raanjhana? Talking to Bollywood Hungama in an old interview, Aanand L Rai opened up about making Raanjhana. The director said that he had just tasted success with Tanu Weds Manu 2, and if he had more faith in himself, then he would have made its sequel. But he felt that a story like Raanjhana needs to be told, and that is why he opted for this film. Speaking about the casting in the film, Aanand confirmed that he had first approached Ranbir Kapoor for the role. He recalled, "An actor who keeps himself simple and lets himself blend into the crowd, which is a difficult thing, I believe, is Ranbir Kapoor, but he was not available at that time, and as we were searching for such an actor, we found Dhanush." We are sure that fans cannot imagine Ranbir playing Kundan, as Dhanush literally made us all believe that he was Kundan, and this role was written for him. But, had the Kapoor lad agreed to this role, then it would have been Sonam and Tamasha stars' second film together after their debut Saawariya. About Tere Ishk Mein For all the fans of Raanjana, Aanad L Rai is all set to bring yet another love story along with Dhanush. The film titled Tere Ishk Mein has already created a lot of hype after its teaser release, and it stars Kriti Sanon as the leading lady. For the unversed, Tere Ishk Mein is coming from the world of Raanjhanaa, a 2013-released cult movie, which has a separate fan base. Himanshu Sharma has written the script while Aanand L Rai directed it. The movie is expected to have a soulful music library as AR Rahman has composed its songs, while Irshad Kamil has penned the lyrics. The romantic-action drama is slated to hit the cinemas on November 28, 2025.

Gupt director Rajiv Rai explains why Ahaan Panday deserves ₹100 crore fees for Saiyaara
Ahaan Panday's debut performance in Saiyaara has taken the industry by storm, earning praise not just from audiences but also from critics. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, filmmaker Rajiv Rai, known for cult classics like Mohra and Gupt, recently said that Ahaan's work in the film was worth ₹100 crore, even if he didn't receive it. Rajiv Rai opened up about what Ahaan Panday deserves as fees for Saiyaara. Rajiv spoke about how some actors demand ₹100 crore as fees, inflating a film's budget to over ₹300 crore, yet fail to deliver at the box office. He said, 'I would blame the producers because they are willing to pay. An actor can even quote ₹1,000 crore. It's a basic demand and supply. Since there's more money in the market now, everyone's chasing glamour over substance. They think audiences will show up just because a certain actor is in the film. But glamour doesn't sell alone. They don't even bother to look closely at the script.' Rajiv Rai says Ahaan Panday deserves ₹ 100 crore as fees for Saiyaara The filmmaker elaborated that while lakhs of fans may gather outside a star's home, those same people may not buy tickets to watch their films unless the content connects with them. He further explained how he calculates an actor's worth: 'Whatever I pay them, they must recover for me on Day 1. If I want to be generous, I'll give them three days. If I've paid ₹100 crore to an actor, then the film must make that back within three days of release. That's when they truly deserve that money. Ahaan deserves it, but I don't think he got anything. So, when someone comes to me and asks for ₹10 crore, I simply say: I'll give you my first day's collection.' Saiyaara collected ₹21.5 crore in India and crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide within just three days. In 11 days, the film has collected ₹256 crore in India and ₹373 crore globally. Its emotional narrative, the powerful performances of its lead actors, and the soulful music struck a chord with the audience. The film has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2025. About Rajiv Rai Rajiv made his directorial debut in Bollywood with Yudh, starring Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. He went on to make films like Tridev (starring Sunny Deol), Vishwatma, Mohra, Gupt and more. After his 2004 film Asambhav, he took a break from direction. However, he is now all set to make his comeback with Zora, which is slated to release in cinemas on 8 August.
