PM Modi calls for working together for responsible AI, invites BRICS nations to participate in AI Impact Summit
While addressing the BRICS Summit Outreach Session on 'Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs and Artificial Intelligence' on Sunday (local time), he invited BRICS nations to participate in the 'AI Impact Summit' set to be held in India next year.
He said, 'In the 21st century, the prosperity and progress of humanity depend on technology, especially Artificial Intelligence. On the one hand, AI is a very effective means of bringing about change in the life of a common man, on the other hand, questions such as risks, ethics, bias are also associated with AI. India's thinking and policy on this subject are clear: We see AI as a medium to enhance human values and capabilities. Working on the mantra of 'AI for All'. Today, India is actively and extensively using AI in sectors such as agriculture, health, education, governance.'
'We believe that resolving concerns and encouraging innovation should both be given equal priority in AI governance. We will have to work together for Responsible AI. Such global standards will have to be created that can verify the authenticity of digital content so that the source of the content can be known, transparency is maintained, and misuse is stopped. The leaders statement on Global Governance of AI being issued in today's meeting is a positive step in this direction. To increase coordination among all countries, next year, we are going to organize 'AI Impact Summit' in India. We hope that all of you will actively contribute in making this summit a success,' he added.
PM Modi stated that the diversity of the BRICS group and its firm belief in multipolarity is its 'biggest strength.' He noted that the whole world is facing challenges and uncertainties.
'The diversity of the BRICS group, and our firm belief in multipolarity, is our biggest strength. Today, when the world order is feeling pressure from all sides, the world is going through many challenges and uncertainties; in such a situation, the increasing relevance and influence of BRICS is natural. We should together consider how BRICS can become a pioneer of a multipolar world in the times to come,' he said.
'I have some suggestions in this regard: First, our economic cooperation under BRICS is progressing steadily. BRICS Business Council and BRICS Women Business Alliance have played a special role in this. Under the presidency of Brazil, special emphasis has been laid on reform of the International Financial System. We welcome this,' he added.
He spoke about the BRICS Agricultural Research Platform, which has been established in India and can serve as a medium for sharing best practices in agri-biotech, precision farming, and climate change adaptation.
He said, 'In the form of BRICS New Development Bank, we have given an important and strong option for the development of the countries of the Global South. While approving projects by NDB, it should focus on issues such as the demand-driven principle, long-term financial sustainability, and a healthy credit rating. Improving our own systems will give more credibility to our call for reformed multilateralism.'
'Secondly, today the countries of the Global South have certain expectations and aspirations from BRICS. We can work together to fulfil them. For example, BRICS Agricultural Research Platform has been established in India which can be a medium for sharing best practices in agri-biotech, precision farming and climate change adaptation,' he added.
He called for the creation of the BRICS Science and Research Repository and emphasised that its benefits can be extended to the nations of the Global South. He called for making supply chains secure and resilient.
'We have taken the initiative of 'One Nation One Subscription' to make all academic journals in India available in every corner of the country. Such arrangements have been made in some other BRICS countries as well. I suggest that we consider jointly creating a BRICS Science and Research Repository, the benefits of which can also be extended to the countries of the Global South,' he added.
'Third, in addition to greater cooperation in critical minerals and technology, we must focus on making their supply chains secure and resilient. It must also be ensured that no country uses these resources solely for its own interests or as a weapon,' he added.

Vadodara artists add creative touch to India-aided Hanimaadhoo Airport in Maldives
V adodara: Hanimaadhoo Airport, a key infrastructure project in the Maldives being developed with Indian assistance, will showcase the creative work of artists from Vadodara. The airport project was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the Maldives on Friday. India is supporting the development of several infrastructure projects in the Maldives, including the Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The project is being executed with financial assistance through a line of credit from the Exim Bank of India. Once operational, the airport is expected to enhance connectivity to the northern Maldives and help ease congestion at Male Airport. Vadodara-based curator Sachin Kaluskar, who is overseeing the installation of artworks at Hanimaadhoo Airport, said their team was selected due to their previous work at airports in Ayodhya, Dehradun and Surat, as well as projects in Kedarnath and Congo. The assignment came through Kalpataru Projects International Ltd, which is developing the airport. The initiative involved collaboration with five Maldivian artists — Mohammed Zain Riyaz, Ahmed Aleem Shakoor, Aminath Lauza, Aishath Shiman Solah, and Aminath Zainath Azim — who were selected through a competition organized by the Regional Airports Company Ltd in the Maldives. The artists worked with Kaluskar's Vadodara-based team to finalize the design concepts. "The entire execution was done in Vadodara. The completed murals were transported to Tuticorin and then shipped to the Maldives," Kaluskar said. Artists from Vadodara who contributed to the project include Jitendra Solanki, Mrunal Kahar, Kunal Kahar, and Parth Solanki. The artworks comprise 15 mixed-media murals, each measuring 3.5 meters wide and 2.5 meters high. The pieces highlight the Maldives' vibrant marine life, culture, and heritage. A sculpture of similar height is also in the works. The murals will be displayed at the airport terminal, which is currently in the final stages of construction. While Hanimaadhoo currently sees limited flights from southern Indian cities, flight frequency is expected to rise as operations expand.

'Still keeping terrorists' masters awake at night': PM Modi makes big statement on Made-in-India
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that indigenous 'Indian-made' weapons played a key role in Operation Sindoor and continue to unsettle those who support terrorism. He was speaking at a public event in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi, where he also launched a series of development projects. 'Today, the Government of India is strongly emphasising Make in India and Mission Manufacturing. You all recently witnessed the power of Make in India during Operation Sindoor. The weapons made in India played a major role in reducing terrorist hideouts to rubble. Weapons made in India are still keeping the masters of terrorism awake at night,' he said. PM Modi said the government is firmly pushing the 'Make in India' initiative to boost manufacturing and economic growth. He also stressed that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Britain will support the goal of making India the world's third-largest economy. 'Today, we are here advancing the vision of a developed Tamil Nadu and a developed India through our efforts. A Free Trade Agreement has been made between Britain and India, which also accelerates this vision. This agreement will also give new strength to India's economy; it will further speed up our pace to become the world's third-largest economy,' the Prime Minister said. 'After this FTA agreement, 99% of Indian products sold in Britain will be tax-free. When Indian goods are cheaper in Britain, their demand will increase… The India-Britain FTA will benefit Tamil Nadu's youth, our small industries, MSMEs, and start-ups the most,' he added. PM Modi also inaugurated the new terminal at Thoothukudi Airport, built at a cost of Rs 450 crore. The terminal is now expected to handle over 20 lakh passengers a year, compared to the earlier capacity of just 3 lakh. '…Today, the inauguration of the new advanced terminal at Thoothukudi Airport is another big step in this direction. This terminal, built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, will now be able to host more than 20 lakh passengers annually, whereas earlier, the annual capacity was only 3 lakh passengers,' he said. The Prime Minister also inaugurated two major road projects worth Rs 2,500 crore to improve connectivity with Chennai. He said that better port links will help boost trade, generate jobs, and make life easier for people in the region. Today, we have also dedicated two major road projects to the people of Tamil Nadu. These roads, built at a cost of approximately Rs 2,500 crore, will connect two major development areas to Chennai… The connectivity of Thoothukudi port has also significantly improved. This will enhance the ease of living in this entire region and open new avenues for trade and employment,' he said. PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects, including port infrastructure, airport expansion, highway upgrades, rail electrification, and clean energy projects, worth around Rs 4,900 crore.
