KPWKM's 2025 Kembara Kasih Roadshow reaches over 10,000 Sabahans across six districts

TAWAU (May 28): The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development's (KPWKM) 2025 Kembara Kasih roadshow wrapped up in Tawau on May 24 after covering nearly 400 kilometres and making stops across six districts in Sabah.
The outreach programme, which began in Tuaran on May 16, successfully reached and benefitted over 10,000 residents.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the initiative brought together 34 programmes and services that were delivered at various roadshow stops, offering direct assistance to communities in need.
'Kembara Kasih also included visits to 14 clients under the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and several families identified by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) along the route,' she said.
'We hope these visits help ease their burdens, offer encouragement, and inspire them to move forward and rebuild their lives.'

The roadshow was divided into two zones: Zone 1 covered Tuaran, Papar and Penampang from May 16 to 18; while Zone 2 involved Lahad Datu, Kunak, and Tawau from May 22 to 24.
Nancy highlighted that Kembara Kasih 2025 focused on five core pillars, namely empowering family institutions; advancing women's professionalism; enhancing community capacity and potential; strengthening community well-being; and promoting growth in the care sector.
As part of family empowerment efforts, LPPKN organised several programmes, including a parenting character development forum in Penampang; a men's well-being programme at the Marine Police Force headquarters in Lahad Datu; and the Kasih Remaja@Kafeteen programme at SMK Sri Nangka in Tuaran.
To support women's professional development, the Zero Tolerance for Violence programme organised by the Department of Women's Development (JPW) was held at the Papar Community Hall and drew more than 700 participants.

'We are also collaborating with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives to host sales events for women entrepreneurs, helping them expand their businesses and contribute to the local economy,' the minister added.
Under the theme of enhancing community capacity, JKM conducted five initiatives, including the Intergenerational Mind Image programme and the launch of a new Senior Citizens Activity Centre (Pawe) in Benoni, Papar.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — A childcare centre in Taman Danau Kota here has been ordered to cease operations after a seven-month-old baby boy, who was found unconscious, died today. Social Welfare Department (JKM) director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan, when contacted, said the centre was instructed to halt operations until the investigation is completed. 'For now, due to the fatality, the daycare centre has been ordered to stop operations pending the outcome of the investigation,' he said. Wangsa Maju Deputy Police Chief Supt Syahrul Anuar Abdul Wahab said no arrests have been made in connection with the case. 'Several witnesses have provided statements to assist in the investigation, including the centre owner, caregivers, the baby's parents, and JKM officers. 'The investigation is being conducted by the Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division (D11) of the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters, covering all aspects, including possible negligence,' he said during a press conference at the Wangsa Maju District Police Headquarters today. Yesterday, Bernama reported that the death of the seven-month-old baby boy was confirmed to be due to milk aspiration. Baby chokes to death on milk at licensed Taman Danau Kota daycare; police confirm cause, welfare dept to review
KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — The death of a seven-month-old baby boy at a daycare centre in Taman Danau Kota, last Monday, has been confirmed to be due to choking on milk. Wangsa Maju deputy police chief Supt Syahrul Anuar Abdul Wahab confirmed the cause of death, following the completion of a post-mortem at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, yesterday. 'The post-mortem has been completed, and the cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to food and milk aspiration,' he said in a statement, today. Syahrul Anuar added that the police received a report from the baby's biological father at the Setapak Police Station, several hours after the incident, which is believed to have occurred between 9 am and 11 am. 'The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Children's Act 2001 by D11 (Sexual Investigation, Women and Children Division) of the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters,' he said. Meanwhile, Social Welfare Department (JKM) director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan, confirmed that the daycare centre involved in the incident is a registered facility under the department. He said that the centre's registration had been renewed by JKM Kuala Lumpur for the period from January 24, 2024, to January 23, 2030, with an approved capacity for 51 children. At the time of inspection for registration, 36 children were present on the premises. 'Following the incident, JKM has contacted the police to obtain preliminary information. For now, the daycare centre remains in operation, and we will conduct a transparent investigation,' he said. — Bernama
