Stellar Blade dev gifts Switch 2 to staff as Nintendo port rumoured
A Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade is rumoured to be in development, as creator Shift Up celebrates the game's latest sales milestone.
According to the latest sales figures, Stellar Blade has surpassed three million copies sold, across PlayStation 5 and PC, since it launched in April last year.
The action game's success prompted Korean developer Shift Up to gift all 311 of its employees a PS5 Pro at the start of 2025, along with a cash bonus, and now the studio has handed out another console to celebrate its latest milestone.
As reported by Korean outlet Gameple, Shift Up has given a Nintendo Switch 2 to over 300 former and current staff, in what it describes as 'performance-based compensation'.
'Shift Up is creating an environment where employees can demonstrate their best abilities through performance-based compensation, and this Switch 2 payment is also part of our encouragement for excellent talents who have achieved outstanding results,' a Shift Up spokesperson told the outlet (via machine translation).
Many fans believe this Switch 2 celebration might be indicative of the studio's future plans. According to Korean outlet PlayForum, Shift Up has begun development on a Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade, as the studio looks to expand its reach to more platforms.
It's claimed the studio has received a Switch 2 development kit and has begun work on the title. Speaking to the outlet, a spokesperson for Shift Up said 'nothing has been confirmed regarding the development of the Nintendo Switch 2' – which isn't exactly a denial.

In Shift Up's recent financial report, the studio stated its intention to put Stellar Blade on more platforms. While they didn't name any specifically, and this was prior to the launch of the PC version, it's certainly possible this could relate to the Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. More Trending
Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with the title being published by Sony. However, Shift Up owns the rights to the IP, so despite being funded by Sony, this means the title can jump to other platforms – much like how Death Stranding, a Sony-published title developed by Kojima Productions, was eventually released on Xbox.
However, if Shift Up does have a Switch 2 devkit, it's entirely possible the studio is cooking up another game for the console. Earlier this year, the team announced it was developing a new IP codenamed Project Spirits, which is set to be released in 2027 for PC and mobile.
While Stellar Blade is a graphically demanding title, other current gen games are also coming out for the console – albeit with visual downgrades. Ubisoft is set to release a Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws in September, for example.
A potential Switch 2 version could feature additional extras, after the game's director, Kim Hyung-tae, recently admitted that they had to cut story sequences during development.

Donkey Kong Bananza's sculpture mode is like a sequel to Mario Paint
The next big Nintendo Switch 2 game has a mode inspired by Mario Paint, and some unexpected connectivity with the original Switch. Nintendo delivered a blowout for Donkey Kong Bananza during its latest Direct, but along with the reveal of Pauline as a co-op companion, it had some other surprises. Between the reveal of ostrich-style power-ups and Cranky Kong from the Rare game, Nintendo debuted a mode called DK Artist, where you sculpt rock statues and customise them using the Switch 2's mouse controls. When the Switch 2's mouse functionality was originally revealed, many expected Nintendo to apply them to some kind of spiritual successor to 1992's Mario Paint on the SNES, and it appears this is exactly what DK Artist is. As shown in the Direct presentation, you can carve sculptures out of rocks, coat them with paint, add dramatic lightning, and spruce them up with decorative bananas. While the clip mostly shows off a sculpture of Donkey Kong's face, recreations of Mario and Bowser are also shown, along with a surprisingly detailed pizza slice. However, there was no mention of whether these can be shared online (although it's not hard to imagine the sordid creations certain corners of the internet will conjure up). Beyond DK Artist, Donkey Kong Bananza sports a two-player mode where one person shoots 'vocal blasts' as Pauline to destroy enemies and rocks. It looks akin to the two-player setup in Super Mario Galaxy, where another player could shoot star bits with the Wii Remote. However, this seems like the secondary player has a more impactful role on the action, instead of just making Goombas dizzy. Crucially, Nintendo revealed you can play this mode online with other Switch 2 systems using GameShare. You can also play this mode in local co-op between Switch 2 consoles, and more interestingly, with someone who has an original Switch. More Trending It's unclear how well this will run, but it means Donkey Kong Bananza is the first Switch 2 exclusive to have GameShare compatibility with the original console. Mario Kart World doesn't support the feature at all, even if you want to share the game between Switch 2 systems. It remains to be seen if this will be a feature in other Switch 2 games moving forward, but it's a cool quirk for those who want to try Donkey Kong Bananza but haven't yet upgraded to the next console yet. Elsewhere in the presentation, Nintendo showed off an Assist Mode which enables easier navigation through Pauline's singing and halves the damage you receive. Donkey Kong Bananza has a secret co-star Nintendo was hiding all along
The latest Nintendo Direct has made a very convincing pitch for Switch 2 game Donkey Kong Bananza, with a host of unexpected and previously unmentioned features. We were perfectly excited about Switch almost-launch title Donkey Kong Bananza when it was first announced and, while it was clearly an unfinished version, we enjoyed what we played of it at Nintendo's preview event in April. However, it's only with Wednesday's dedicated Nintendo Direct that it's become one of our most anticipated games of the year. The 15 minute Direct was filled with new information, that made the game look highly impressive on both a technical and design level. Although the first revelation was that the Odd Rock character DK is carrying around on his back is actually Pauline as a child. Despite what you might assume, Princess Peach is not the damsel in distress from the original Donkey Kong arcade game (Peach debuted in Super Mario Bros.) but a character named Pauline that was seemingly retired from canon until she turned up in Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2 in 2006 and got a major role in 2017's Super Mario Odyssey. In Odyssey she was portrayed as the mayor of New Donk City and part-time lounge singer, which is the inspiration for young Pauline's singing abilities in this new game. A talent which can be weaponised in co-op, by another player firing projectiles at enemies. We strongly advise watching the Direct as it's only 15 minutes long, but it shows all of DK's main moves in action, including the previously un-hinted at ability to transform into a giant gorilla, zebra, and ostrich – with the latter able to fly and drop egg bombs. The main gimmick of the game is that DK can smash and punch his way through the scenery, levelling it if he so chooses and digging into the earth for treasure. There also seems to be an emphasis on creatively redesigning levels, sticking some materials together to make new landmarks and, in one sequence, using a rainbow-coloured substance to create a ramp, which DK runs up in zebra form before jumping off to turn into an ostrich and fly off. It looks great and a very welcome change in direction from the overly difficult 2D platformers of recent years. There are still lots of nods to the Rare era though, including the presence of Cranky Kong and Rambi, and many classic tunes. More Trending There's also some new 2D courses to play through as separate challenges, but not apparently as part of the main story. Other unexpected features include a skill tree with new unlockable moves, the fact that the game can use the Switch 1 for GameShare co-op (no explanation was given for this, so we're not sure what's going on there) and a 3D paint package called DK Artist. There also seems to be some 3D racing going on, in the last few gameplay shots of the trailer, so the only disappointment of the Direct is that we still don't know who's making the game. Presumably it's one of Nintendo's internal studios but their recent habit of refusing to name developers, and in some cases not crediting them properly, continues to be very disrespectful. Apart from that though we don't have a bad word to say about Donkey Kong Bananza and very much look forward to its release in September 17. The Witcher 3: Complete Edition is less than £7 in new PlayStation sale
Black Myth: Wukong, Dragon's Dogma 2, Mortal Kombat 1, and many others have all received big discounts on the PlayStation Store. The PlayStation Store might rival DFS in its constant sales, but each refresh usually comes with some standout deals. This month sees Sony kick off the Mid-Year Deals sale, which runs from today until Wednesday, July 2. While it is largely an assortment of the usual suspects (hello, Dead By Daylight DLC), some discounts are substantial across several series' with an upcoming sequel. The most notable of these might be The Witcher 3. The complete edition, which includes both story expansions Hearts Of Stone and Blood And Wine, is 80% off at a mere £6.99. If you're subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra, you can even play the base game for free. In terms of other games with inbound sequels, Borderlands 3 Next Level Edition, which includes various cosmetics, is 90% off at £6.49. If you've never jumped into the series, it will give you a cheap taste of what to expect from Borderlands 4 in September. There are other discounts on more modern titles. Black Myth: Wukong is 20% off at £43.99, while Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Vault Edition is 35% off at £64.99. Meanwhile, EA Sports FC 25 Ultimate Edition is 60% off at £39.99 and Silent Hill 2 Deluxe Edition is £41.99. If you're looking for notable cheap deals though, Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition is 80% off at £19.99, while Resident Evil 4 remake is down to £17.49.
