In a tale that has left chefs and thrifters alike envious, one man revealed how he stumbled on a $20,000 Thermador range oven for just $1,000 at a local thrift store.
The luxury appliance, complete with dual ovens, six burners, a griddle and stainless steel finish stunned the the shopper, who shared the discovery on Reddit's r/ThriftStoreHauls.
"Found this Thermador at a local thrift store and took a chance on it. According to the workers they picked it up from a house locally in a very wealthy area and the people were upgrading and just donated this," Redditor drunkbagels said in the post.
"This was by far my most expensive thrift store purchases and I am aware its a gamble but it did come with a 30 day warranty; plus even if it has issues it was 95 percent off from its original price of almost $20k and luckily I'm handy so I should be able to fix any potential issues (fingers crossed)."
He decided to take the gamble, bringing the oven home and explaining: "I have always wanted a really high end range for my kitchen however I could never spend or justify spending crazy stupid money on one."

This isn't the first time a lucky shopper has shared their incredible thrift store finds. One woman recently shared how she was left floored when she stumbled on what she believes could be a '90s leather purse by Chanel.
Initially thinking it was "probably a tatty fake," it wasn't until she looked closer that she noticed signs that she could have "struck gold" with a serial number and telling details it could be genuine.
While in 2024 a woman shared how she picked up a jacket in a Texas thrift store for $25, only to later be in "shock" to discover that it was a real piece by Jean Paul Gaultier, retailing on their website for $860.

'My PIP is ending after two years - what do I do?'

A benefit claimant said their two-year Personal Independence Payment (PIP) award was coming to an end and admitted they didn't know what to do. They were not sure if the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) would be in touch, or if they'd need to reapply. With just a few weeks to go before the payments stopped, they took to Reddit to ask others for advice. READ MORE: 'I'm worried about my Universal Credit review - I can't tell the truth about some bank transfers' The post read: "Am I correct in thinking that if I was awarded PIP for two years, and it's to end in the next month or so, I will get a new form? "Or do I need to reapply without them contacting me?" READ MORE: 'My PIP assessment was draining and now I'm so worried it'll be a flat-out no' One helpful response read: "It depends whether it was a fixed award term or not. "Your letter should state this. I believe, if it was fixed, it's your responsibility to re-apply and you won't get renewal letters. "If it was an ongoing award, I would be surprised if you hadn't received a renewal letter at this late stage. "Mine is a five-year award ending in May 2028, and my letter says they will be in touch 'after May 2027' - that's the wording for comparison to check on your letter." Another said they thought the person would have received review forms by now if it was an ongoing award, adding: "It sounds like a fixed award and they will have to reapply. "Fixed short term awards are for conditions they expect to significantly improve in that time so they just end, whereas conditions which are expected to stay the same or get worse will have longer award lengths and be subject to reviews." According to Citzens Advice, the DWP "won't usually review an award and will let it end" if someone was awarded PIP for two years or less.

Domo Sushi, lauded chef's Hayes Valley standby, appears to close suddenly

An in-person battle with a social media influencer that went viral was the downfall of three-month-old Kis Cafe in San Francisco's Hayes restaurant announced last week that it would be closing permanently in light of accusations that the chef had been rude to the influencer. Now, the subsequent media backlash may (or may not) spell the doom of another restaurant affiliated with James Beard-nominated Chef Luke Sung. A Reddit thread on Saturday announced the impending closure of Domo Sushi, a cozy sushi restaurant also nestled in Hayes Valley, a block over from Kis Cafe. Sung's LinkedIn lists him as the 'operator' of Domo. The thread began with a user posting a photo of a piece of paper hung in what appears to be Domo's storefront at 511 Laguna St. It reads: 'Domo is closing. Last service 8-2-2025. Thank you for your support for the last 17 years.' 'According to a staff member, the owners, which also owned recently closed Kis Cafe, let all staff know that yesterday today (sic) (8/2) would be their last day, closing after 17 years,' the caption below the photo, posted by a user named 'ieroec,' reads. The Chronicle attempted to reach out to Sung but was not successful. A Domo employee who was contacted Saturday appeared to confirm that a closure was discussed Saturday morning, but also expressed uncertainty about whether that plan was still active by the evening. 'The owners this morning decided not to close yet,' the employee said, but quickly added: 'We don't know, actually.' Domo has yet to provide an update on the status of its operations on its social media accounts, and the note posted in its storefront notably does not include a reason for the potential closure. But Reddit users have theories. 'Seems a bit odd if a restaurant can't survive two weeks of bad social media PR of a different restaurant,' said one user in a comment on the thread. 'I wonder if it has anything to do with commercial real estate lease jumping significantly last year and they weren't able to negotiate the price,' posted another. 'Maybe it's a retirement thing?' wondered a third. Earlier this month, Sung was ousted as chef and co-owner of Kis Cafe after news of his clash with a food 'microinfluencer,' known on Tik Tok by her handle @karlalobb162, at the establishment went viral. The content creator, whose real name is Karla, posted a video in which she alleged that Sung instigated a hostile interaction between the two, after she showed up at the restaurant for a planned promotional collaboration. Sung, she alleged, dismissed her number of followers as insufficient. Sung has since issued a public apology, which was posted to Kis Cafe's Instagram page. 'It was important for me to first apologize to Karla privately and step away from Kis Cafe before publicly apologizing,' Sung wrote, and acknowledged being 'condescending, hurtful, and intimidating' to the influencer during her visit. Public records show that Sung has leased Domo's space at 511 Laguna since 2007, and appears to own the building that housed Kis Cafe through a trust.
