Pedro Pascal calls Robert Downey Jr. Daddy Doomsday in Avengers Doomsday interview

Express Tribune30-07-2025
Speaking with AdoroCinema, Pedro Pascal teased Robert Downey Jr.'s anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Avengers: Doomsday, calling him 'Daddy Doomsday' in a playful tribute to his new role as the infamous villain Doctor Doom.
'He's delicious. It's loads of fun. He is Daddy Doomsday to all of us, truly,' Pascal said. Co-star Joseph Quinn added, 'He's a remarkable man.'
Downey Jr.'s performance is notable not only for Pascal's enthusiastic praise, but also because it marks the actor's first time portraying a villain in the MCU. The role of Victor Von Doom is a dramatic shift from his legacy as Tony Stark/Iron Man, adding intrigue to Marvel's next phase.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will serve as the fifth Avengers installment and the penultimate entry before Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. The film is currently in production and scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
Pascal stars as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, now playing in theaters, alongside Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. All four are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday as well.
The ensemble cast also includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and many others. The lineup features both longtime MCU characters and newcomers like Lewis Pullman (Sentry) and Channing Tatum (Gambit), promising an epic-scale Marvel event.
Though official plot details remain under wraps, cast reactions and early buzz suggest that Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom will be a defining presence—one the cast has already dubbed 'Daddy Doomsday.'

Zendaya to return as MJ with smaller but key role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her appearance will reportedly be brief. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, she has travelled to Glasgow, Scotland, but is 'not filming any scenes' for the upcoming Marvel Studios film. While her screen time is expected to be limited, sources suggest her character will still play a meaningful part in the story. The decision appears to align with the narrative direction established at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, is forgotten by everyone following a spell cast by Doctor Strange to repair the multiverse. In the film's closing scenes, Peter visits MJ at a coffee shop but chooses not to reveal their shared past. This reset placed him in a new chapter of his life, disconnected from his former allies and navigating life on his own. Fans online speculate MJ's absence will loom over Peter during Brand New Day, with some predicting she will return near the film's end, potentially rekindling their connection. This shift also reflects a broader change in the character's arc. For the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peter will be portrayed as a more grounded, street-level superhero, without the backing of the Avengers or Stark technology. Zendaya's reduced involvement may also be influenced by her commitments to other major projects, including Euphoria Season 3 and Dune: Part Three. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be released on July 31 2026.

Epic Games CEO criticises report on Disney mode delays in Fortnite as 'BS'

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has strongly denied recent claims in The Wall Street Journal that Disney has delayed the development of Fortnite's upcoming Disney mode due to slow decision-making by the entertainment giant. The WSJ report suggested internal frustration within Epic over the pace of Disney sign-offs, stating the new mode would not launch until 'fall 2026 at the earliest.' Executives were said to be unhappy with delays caused by multiple layers of approval. Responding on social media, Sweeney labelled the anonymous remark as 'BS.' He wrote: 'The speed of Disney and Epic collaborations like Darth Vader has been awesome and is around 10x the ordinary speed of media company dealings in this business. We even provided a statement to the writer… but they chose not to print it.' The Disney collaboration was first revealed in February 2024. Details remain limited, although concept art has hinted at a virtual Disneyland-style environment featuring themed hubs. The specific gameplay elements of this mode remain undisclosed. The WSJ noted that Josh D'Amaro, head of Disney Parks and Resorts, is overseeing the project and has reportedly spent time with Sweeney during development. The article also raised concerns over legal ownership of fan-created content involving Disney characters, such as in-game dances. Epic's partnership with Disney has already resulted in extensive Fortnite content, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and classic animation skins. One recent initiative tested an AI-powered Darth Vader character who could interact via generative speech, engaging with over 10 million players despite early moderation issues. Fortnite is entering its next season, featuring a mutated biome and guest appearances from Halo characters.
