The vessel was en route back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following a four-day trip to The Bahamas when the accident happened just after 11:15am.
'It sounded like hitting pavement, nothing like if you jump into a pool,' one traveler, known only as Chandler, told People.
'It was so loud.'
Chandler said there was a 'commotion' on the deck of the ship.
She recalled hearing what she described as an 'awful' scream from who she thought was the girl's mom.
The man overboard alarm was played on the ship's loudspeaker, sparking a frantic rescue operation.
Life vests were hurled into the water as rescue crews sprang into action.
Chandler shared footage on TikTok that captured the dramatic rescue.
A yellow life vessel could be seen bobbing up and down as the girl and dad were rescued and brought back to the cruise ship.
Janice Martin-Asque, from Florida, recalled seeing people crowding by the railings.
"My daughter asked someone what had happened, and someone said a kid had fallen overboard and that the dad jumped in after her," she told CBC.
Shannon Lindholm, who was also on board the ship, said the man gave a thumbs up after being rescued.
She said fellow passengers cheered as the father and daughter were brought back onto the ship, as per CBC News.
Disney Cruise bosses are probing how the girl fell overboard.
It is highly rare for passengers to fall overboard from ships.
Only 212 people have fallen overboard between 2009 and 2019, according to a Cruise Lines International Association report.
The cruise ship docked in Fort Lauderdale on Monday morning before departing that afternoon.
It is currently at sea en route to The Bahamas, as per Cruise Mapper.
The vessel will head to Nassau and Disney Lookout Cay before returning back to Florida on July 5.
The 15-year-old ship, last refurbished in 2024, can carry between 2,500 and 3,500 passengers, and can reach top speeds of 25mph.

Passengers on a Disney Dream cruise ship have described the moment a horrified mom realized her five year-old daughter fell overboard. The little girl plunged from the fourth deck of the $900 million Disney Dream on Sunday morning as it was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following a four-night cruise in the Bahamas. Her mother screamed after she went into the water and then had to watch as her husband jumped 45ft to rescue her, eye-witnesses say. The dad had to tread water for up to 20 minutes before both were pulled aboard the ship's rescue boat. A post from a passenger on the cruise's Facebook page said the mom was yelling 'she's five and can't swim' when the accident happened, while other witnesses described her 'terror' as the dramatic incident unfolded. Shannon Lindholm, from Houston, was on the cruise with her husband and their two kids when she heard the 'man overboard' announcement. She watched the rescue unfold from the fourth floor deck, where the girl is believed to have fallen from. 'I saw the mom's face of terror when she was waiting for them to be rescued, and I saw her face of relief when they brought them on board,' Lindholm told People. 'They brought her over, and obviously she was extremely relieved and incredibly grateful, and it was just very quick from there,' adding that the rescue was 'a miracle times two.' Another passenger, Monica Shannon, was on holiday with her husband and young child and waiting to meet Disney princesses when the fall happened. 'I kind of see something really fast flew by, I didn't think anything of it,' Shannon told CBS News. Shannon was on the third floor deck at the time, one below where the girl plunged from. 'I just figured it was maybe a part of the show or just the experience, but about five minutes later we heard that someone flew overboard.' A passenger named Chandler told People magazine about the moment the girl hit the water. 'It sounded like hitting the pavement,' she said. 'There was some kind of commotion... Then this awful scream from what I assume is the mother and then this massive splash.' Chandler said she was with her family when the commotion began, and 'Mr. M.O.B.,' meaning man overboard, blared out over the ship's intercom as it traveled between Nassau and Grand Bahama Island. The woman said she didn't think rescuers would be able to locate the dad and daughter, who have not yet been identified, and told her nine-year-old daughter Harper: 'They were probably gone.' Passenger Gar Frantz says he was near the fourth deck jogging track when the little girl fell. 'People were screaming, 'the baby's in the water, the baby's in the water,'' he recalled to the Daily Mail. 'I thought they were dying.' Video shared online shows the yellow rescue boat quickly bobbing through the waters to reach the father and daughter as horrifying onlookers watched from on top of the ship. Travellers erupted into rapturous applause as the rescue teams threw out a rope for the pair to grab onto and safely pulled them onto the jetty. 'Everybody was cheering because you could see them lift them into the boat and they had the baby in their arms,' Frantz said. The Brownard Sheriff's Office praised the Disney crew for the successful effort. 'Clearly, their training and readiness paid off because they executed a successful ocean rescue,' it said in a statement. 'This family is so blessed.' BSO detectives don't currently 'suspect anything suspicious,' but they continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the child going overboard. Disney Cruise Line commended its crew in a statement to People for 'their exceptional skills and prompt actions,' adding, 'this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.'

A young child suddenly plunged from the fourth deck of the Disney Dream cruise before her father dove in - with one witness describing the scene as 'an absolute miracle' A cruise passenger watched on in disbelief as a young child suddenly plunged from the fourth deck of a Disney Dream cruise and into the open sea - moments before her father dove in amid a desperate attempt to save her life. The terrifying incident unfolded on Sunday as the ship was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas. Alarms blared and chaos briefly gripped the deck as the 'man overboard' alert was sounded, triggering a major emergency response from the crew. Elinor Finkelstein, a New Yorker aboard the cruise, witnessed the drama play out, but said crew members did a great job of "not panicking at all." Finkelstein said: "(They) kept everyone calm. No frenzy or screaming. Everyone was concentrating on the scene. It was an absolute miracle." It is not yet known how the child fell over the safety barriers. The passenger told how an emergency "Mr M.O.B" alert rang out over the intercom - code signifying a person overboard. Finkelstein told ARC Rochester: "I first heard the Mr. Mob announcement over the speakers probably between 11.15 to 11.30 in the morning. I went up to the pool deck and everybody was standing around watching. "Seeing the boat go out and seeing that rescue happen was incredible. I had no idea that a cruise ship could turn around so quickly. It was a successful rescue, and by about 11.50ish, the boat was back to the ship. Everyone was cheering, and it was definitely a miracle." In a clip shared by Dewayne Smith, another passenger onboard the cruise, the rescue vessel was seen bringing the girl and her dad back aboard as shocked guests watched on from the railings. Crowds then burst into applause as the pair returned to the ship. Finkelstein added: "It looked like the two individuals in the water were very close together, but they were pretty far from the ship. It was very hard to tell amongst the waves, but you could see these two dark circles and you could just make the assumption that that was them. "Just a few minutes after the rescue, a message went over the entire ship explaining [that] two individuals were rescued from the water. We don't know at this time who the exact individuals were." A Disney Cruise Line spokesperson told The Mirror: "The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. "We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols."
