Skilled And Empowered Youth At Core Of PM Modi's Vision For Viksit Bharat By 2047: Jayant Chaudhary
On 15th July 2015, the Government of India launched the Skill India Mission under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an initiative that envisioned not just jobs, but a future built on self-reliance, dignity, and confidence. The transformation began in 2014 with the establishment of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. With the launch of the Skill India Mission, India's youth would no longer be defined by degrees, but by their skills and potential to shape the nation's future. Marking 10 years of this vision serves as a key milestone to reflect on achievements and chart the path ahead.
What began as a government initiative soon evolved into a powerful mass movement, capturing the aspirations and struggles of youth across the country. From rural villages to urban centres, remote mountain regions to bustling metros, the identity of a skilled India began to take firm root. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), more than 1.63 crore youth have been trained across 38 sectors. Of these, 45% are women, and a significant proportion come from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, young Indians who were once distanced from education and opportunity are now reshaping their futures through skill.
Reflecting on the 10-year journey and vision of the Skill India Mission, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, said, 'India's most powerful asset is its youth. Acknowledging this, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has always positioned young Indians at the heart of the nation's economic, educational, and technological vision. Under the Skill India initiatives, crores of youth have been equipped with industry-relevant skills across sectors ranging from traditional and healthcare to artificial intelligence and automotive. These initiatives have effectively bridged the gap, empowering the youth with practical, job-ready capabilities. As we look ahead to a Viksit Bharat by 2047, it is this confident and skilled generation that will be its true architects. I am confident that the Ministry's continued and dedicated efforts will make a tangible impact on the skilling landscape of the country."
India's technical education system too has undergone a major transformation over the past decade. The number of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) has grown from around 10,000 to 14,615, and student enrolment has jumped from 9.5 lakh to over 14 lakh. Today, technical education is no longer confined to classrooms; institutions like the Indian Institute of Skills are preparing youth for global standards and emerging industries.
The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, launched in 2023, added a new dimension to this vision. So far, over 22.24 lakh traditional artisans have received formal training, modern toolkits, and financial assistance under the scheme.
When Prime Minister Modi presented his vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the Skill India Mission emerged as a backbone of this national dream: to make India the Skill Capital of the World. The journey of the past ten years is a testament that this is more than just a policy; it is a lived reality. It is the story of a young woman who now supports her family with her sewing machine and the journey of a once-unemployed youth who today supervises a construction team. It is the transformation of millions who, through the power of skill, rewrote their destinies and redefined India's identity.
Ten years ago, the Skill India Mission began as a dream. Today, it stands as a movement of transformation, dignity, and aspiration. 15th July 2025 is not just a date; it is a celebration of a decade of effort, perseverance, and the collective dreams of millions who dared to believe. This journey is far from over. With every new skill acquired, it deepens and widens, paving the way for a New India, where talent speaks louder than privilege, and skill is the true identity of progress.

Not informed about bridge opening, CM Siddaramaiah writes to PM
BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, complaining about him not being informed about the inauguration of state's longest cable bridge at Sagar in Shivamogga that was opened by Union Minister for Highways and Transport Nitin Gadkari on Monday. The CM stated that the state government places on record its protest against such non-cooperative action. 'I do hope that all central ministers will be strongly advised to refrain from such discordant acts in the future,' he said. The CM stated that organising any programme in the state without consulting the state government violates the protocol. It is also unusual that the name of a former chief minister was mentioned before the names of deputy chief minister, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and chairman of state Legislative Council. The programme was held in spite of the state government expressing its disagreement. This shows sheer arbitrariness and defies the very spirit of cooperative federalism, which has always steered the Centre and state relations as per the mandate of our Constitution, he added. The CM said the foundation stone laying function, dedicating five National Highway projects of 88 km with an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore, was held on Monday by the ministry of road transport and highways at Sagar in Shivamogga district. Work on bridge unfinished, CM tells PM 'After coming to know about this programme through other sources, I had personally written to the Union Minister on July 11, requesting him to postpone the event,' Siddaramaiah stated. The CM also complained that the programme in Sagar was arranged without consulting the state government and the chief minister's name too was mentioned in the invite. 'Though the minister agreed to postpone the programme on July 11, to our dismay, the function has taken place. Hence I am bringing the serious breach of protocol to your knowledge,' he told the PM. He also mentioned that this bridge was initially conceptualised by the state government in 2013 and subsequently implemented by the central government. He said as per the technical report, the work has not been completed and the inauguration should not have taken place.

Parl discussed 1962 China invasion: Cong calls for border situation talks
The Congress on Tuesday hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will "finally agree" to a discussion on China in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, and said that when Parliament could debate the border situation during the 1962 Chinese invasion then why not now. The opposition party also stressed that it is essential to build a national consensus on the critical security and economic challenges arising from China's rise as the world's leading manufacturing power and its position as the second-largest economy. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh pointed out that in his July 14 meeting with China's Vice President Han Zheng, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that the India-China bilateral relationship "has been steadily improving since the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan last October" and that "continued normalisation of our ties can produce mutually beneficial outcomes". "Perhaps we should remind the EAM of recent developments in bilateral ties since the PM's last tete-a-tete with President Xi: China gave total support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, turning it into a testing ground for network-centric warfare and weapon systems such as the J-10C fighter and PL-15E air-to-air missile and assorted drones," he said in a statement. Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Rahul R Singh has stated that India fought three adversaries in Sindoor, including China that gave Pakistan "live inputs" i.e. real time intelligence on Indian military operations, Ramesh said. Pakistan is likely to acquire Chinese J-35 stealth fighters in the near future, he pointed out. China has restricted exports to India of critical materials like rare-earth magnets, speciality fertilisers, and tunnel-boring machines for infrastructure projects, Ramesh said. Important sectors like telecoms, pharmaceuticals, and electronics remain critically dependent on Chinese imports, even as the trade deficit with China reaches a record USD 99.2 billion, he said. Ramesh said hundreds of Chinese workers have departed from India's Foxconn facilities, potentially impeding India's attempt to become an alternative global supplier of Apple smart phones. When are the External Affairs Minister and Prime Minister Modi going to take the people of India into confidence and hold a detailed debate on China in Parliament -- as the Congress has been calling for since 2020, he said. The Congress hopes that the prime minister will finally agree to such a discussion and break the five-year drought in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, Ramesh said. "If Parliament could debate the border situation in November 1962 when the Chinese invasion was at its peak, why cannot we discuss now, especially given that both sides appear to want renormalisation (albeit without necessarily restoring the May 2020 status,quo on the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh)?" the Congress leader said in his statement. It is essential to build a national consensus on the critical security and economic challenges arising from China's rise as the world's leading manufacturing power and its position as the second-largest economy, one that may well surpass the United States within a decade, Ramesh said. His remarks came a day after Jaishankar, during his talks with Yi, said India and China should build on "good progress" in normalising bilateral ties to address border-related issues, including de-escalation, and it is essential to avoid "restrictive trade measures and roadblocks". Jaishankar also held talks with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and conveyed to him that continued normalisation of bilateral ties can lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.
