Federico Chiesa's behaviour in training sums him up as Liverpool fans make observation
Federico Chiesa continues to put in maximum effort during Liverpool training sessions despite speculation linking him with a departure from Anfield this transfer window. Supporters online have commended the Italian for his commitment and spirited attitude.
The winger made the switch to Merseyside last year from Juventus for £12.5million, representing the sole permanent senior acquisition during Arne Slot's inaugural campaign. Chiesa's maiden season in England was unfortunately hampered by fitness problems and limited playing time.
Speculation has consequently intensified this summer, connecting Chiesa with a return to Italy following the arrival of new attacking reinforcements in Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. However, following glimpses into a recent Reds training session, supporters have been swift to applaud Chiesa for his application.
In footage shared on YouTube showing a Liverpool training session, Chiesa can be observed wholeheartedly taking part in sprint exercises and small-sided games with a beaming smile, which captured supporters' attention in the comments.
"Federico Chiesa is the consummate professional," one comment read. "Even with his future at the club still up in the air he is out there giving 100 per cent effort in training with a smile on his face. I just love the guy and want the best for him whenever or wherever he plays."
Another posted: "Fede needs to stay, so much to give, he's the only player really we have upfront comfortable on both feet when attacking, which makes him extremely difficult to defend."
In a summer of endless transfer talk, Calciomercato claims that Chiesa is keen to stay at Liverpool, but only if he's promised substantial playing time. Should that assurance not materialise, he might look elsewhere, with Napoli, AS Roma, AC Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, Como and Atletico Madrid all reportedly circling.
However, manager Slot may have dropped a hint that the Italian is likely to remain at Anfield this transfer window, as he made a point of mentioning Chiesa when discussing his attacking arsenal, reports the Liverpool Echo.
"I think we have a lot of attacking power in our team," Slot declared during his pre- Community Shield press conference. "When I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong who can play as a right-winger, Florian Wirtz who can play as a left-winger.
"I already feel I have a lot of attacking options in my current squad. But, as always as a club, we are always looking at the chances in the market but that can also be in the midfield or the last line."
When pressed directly about Chiesa's future back in May, following the Italian's solitary league start under his stewardship last season, Slot was adamant the player has a place at Anfield.
"Does he have a future here? Yes, definitely he has, yes," Slot stated. "Definitely. I think everyone playing for us over here has a future over here. Next season, if he comes back completely fit, which he has hardly been for the first half-season but then afterwards he became fitter and fitter.
"The next steps should have been playing time, which I couldn't give him. But I can give him playing time in pre-season, so he can build himself up and then go even further."

DJ AG drops Misfits boxing hint after Derek Chisora meeting
DJ AG - also known as Ashley Gordon - has made a name for himself in the world of TikTok, but it seems as if he is open to a move to boxing Social media and TikTok sensation DJ AG has hinted at a potential move to the Misfits boxing ring DJ AG - also known as Ashley Gordon - can often be heard before he is seen, playing music from his decks in the middle of the street in London. The rather bizarre set up has landed Gordon more than a million followers on TikTok and the honour of being named Time Out's Londoner of the Year. He tends to invite people off the street to perform with him and has even handed the microphone to stars like Idris Elba, Skepta, Jorja Smith, JME and Will Smith. Despite building up quite the following on social media, it seems as if he is eager for a change in profession. Gordon recently teamed up with heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora and was seen enjoying himself in the ring before stating he was ready for Misfits. Over the past few years, the famous boxing promotion has signed several big names in the world of social media. In a recent story uploaded to Chisora's Instagram, both he and AG were heading down a stairway to the ring. A starstruck Gordon said: "Oi, that ring looks sick! That ring looks cold!" AG then turned to Chisora and uttered: "I know you have got boxing rings, bro!" An energetic Chisora then initiated mind games with the social media star, downplaying a potential sparring session, stating: "I know you do not want the smoke, bro!" AG then dropped a major bombshell, saying: "I am ready for Misfits!" Before Gordon entered the ring, he envisioned himself being introduced to the ring, saying: "Introducing, DJ AG! And the crowd go rah!" Gordon can be seen spending the rest of the video doing some sharp movements as well as some brief shadow-boxing. Despite making a name for himself in the world of TikTok, things were not so easy when he first started. 'I had eggs thrown at me, water thrown at me, I was heckled, it was tough. But I think that's because people didn't understand what I was doing, they thought it was a joke,' he told The Mirror at TikTok Live Fest. This didn't stop Gordon, however. He added: 'I'm quite fearless and I think a lot of that comes from working in sales which is quite a tough environment and coming from Tottenham which is tough as well, so how bad could it be being outside.' It was his children who suggested he try out TikTok in 2022, but the now-39-year-old said it was an app for kids and 'they don't want to listen to what I've got to say'. He continued: 'But I tried it one day and realised there were people my age on TikTok and the rest is history'. He was particularly inspired by DJ SUAT, the roaming YouTube performer. Gordon admitted that if the gamble did not pay off, he would have gone back to his day job. Fortunately, he has not had to go back to a traditional job and has now performed with a range of stars on the street. Idris Elba, he said, was an 'amazing man'. He added: 'For someone that has achieved so much in his life and given so much to still be so humble, so down to earth, having that willingness to help. It's great to meet people that are like that.'

Crystal Palace make £40million-rated Liverpool star Harvey Elliott top transfer target – with swap deal still on cards
CRYSTAL PALACE are planning to raid Liverpool before the end of the transfer window - in a bid to secure Harvey Elliott. The Eagles have made the Reds' and England star a prime target as they look to boost their squad ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off. Elliott is being lined up as a potential replacement for Eberechi Eze, who is being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham. Spurs are understood to be preparing a significant bid for the attacking midfielder, whose performances last season have made him one of the hottest properties in English football. Arsenal are also keen on the midfielder but would need to sell first. Liverpool are expected to demand around £40million for Elliott, who missed a penalty against Palace in the Charity Shield at Wembley. New Liverpool manager Arne Slot is under no pressure to sell the versatile midfielder-forward, but he knows the player is desperate for regular first-team football. Elliott made 53 appearances in all competitions last season, yet often found himself starting from the bench in crucial fixtures. Slot is believed to respect the youngster's ambition and won't stand in his way if a suitable offer lands on the table. Palace are understood to have made their admiration for Elliott clear during initial talks with Liverpool. The conversations have been complicated by ongoing negotiations between the two clubs over Marc Guehi, who is wanted in a £35m move by the Merseysiders. The situation sets up a fascinating late-window standoff: Palace want Elliott to fill the creativity gap that could be left by Eze's departure, while Liverpool are keen on Guehi to strengthen their back line. The two sides to Isak's STRIKE story | Transfers Exposed The possibility of a player-plus-cash arrangement has not been ruled out. Palace captain Guehi has a year left on his contract, but chairman Steve Parish said earlier this week he could be sold to avoid him moving on a free transfer in 12 months' time. Liverpool are also trying to sign 18-year-old Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni. The Italy Under-19 international is not seen as a potential rival for Guehi but more as one for the future. He began his career at Padova and had a short spell at Sampdoria before joining Parma last summer. 3

Liverpool set to complete £30m transfer deal for 'tough guy'
Premier League champions Liverpool are set to complete a £30m transfer deal for Italian 'tough guy' Giovanni Leoni, according to reports. The 18-year-old Parma defender has been tipped to become a superstar for Italy's national team, having already featured for his nation at U19 level. Leoni has only made 17 appearances in Serie A – the top-flight of Italian football – but the teenage centre-back has bags of potential and ability. He's now set for a switch to England and his move to Liverpool could be finalised within the next 24 hours, talkSPORT reported on Wednesday, ahead of Friday's Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth. It's believed that Liverpool are still keen to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer despite Leoni's expected arrival at Anfield. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has made no secret of his desire to further improve his team's defence before the window closes on September 1. The Reds have already signed right-back Jeremie Frimpong and left-back Milos Kerkez from Bayer Leverkusen and AFC Bournemouth respectively. Legendary Italian manager Arrigo Sacchi is a huge fan of Leoni – who is 6ft 5in tall – and believes the 'tough guy' is the future of his country's defence. 'We'll see if the deal goes through, but in any case, I'd say the Reds would be making a great move by signing this young man, whom I followed with interest and curiosity in the second half of last season,' Sacchi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport. 'I'm convinced he'll be the lynchpin of the Azzurri defence for a long time. 'Some, regarding a possible transfer to Liverpool, object that this young man has only made 17 Serie A appearances so far. Aren't those few? No, I reply. Not few, because on those occasions Leoni has demonstrated the qualities needed to go far. 'If someone is good, if someone has their head in the right place, it's immediately obvious. A person can have 200 Serie A games under their belts and still not possess the qualities Leoni displayed in his first season as an adult. Talent knows no age. More Trending 'Let's also give him the opportunity to make mistakes. At eighteen, some mistakes are expected and can be forgiven. And in any case, Leoni won't make many. He's a tough guy who's already learned the fundamental lesson, keep your head down and work hard.' Leoni previously played under Andrea Pirlo and the Italy legend, now a manager, also believes that the youngster is set for a massive future. 'We are dealing with a fantastic boy,' Pirlo said. 'If someone had doubts about starting him from the first minute, I had none. 'I [have seen] him every day in training. He played as a mature youngster – he will become a strong footballer.'
