When Terence Stamp opened up about his unique bond with Princess Diana: Cup of tea, long chats and ‘sadness in her'

Terence Stamp, who portrayed the arch-enemy General Zod in Superman movies, died at the age of 87. The Oscar-nominated actor is known for his stunning performances in several movies, including The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Far From the Madding Crowd, and Valkyrie during the course of a six-decade career. Terence Stamp once mentioned that he and Diana maintained a totally personal friendship despite his fame.(Getty) In a statement given to the Reuters news agency, his family said: 'He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and a writer that will continue to touch people for years to come.' Stamp's terrifying portrayal of a psycho holding a young woman (Samantha Eggar) hostage in William Wyler's The Collector (1965) earned him the Cannes Film Festival's best actor prize. He then had a successful comeback as the Kryptonian megalomaniac General Zod in Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980). Stamp tied the knot with Elizabeth O'Rourke after meeting her in an Australian pharmacy. The pair got married when she was 29 and he was 64, but they broke their marriage six years later. Regarding his acquaintance with a young Princess Diana, he stated, 'We got on amazingly well... I saw the sadness in her because she'd gone into a marriage believing – she was a believer in marriage. And it didn't turn out the way she expected it to.' 'The relationship came about because my friend Oliver Hoare, the art dealer, knew her,' he continued. 'I said, 'I'd love to have a proper chat with her, why don't you ask her if she's up for it?' He asked and she said yes. We got on amazingly well.' Stamp maintained that he and Diana maintained a totally personal friendship despite his fame. 'It wasn't like that. I thought that was the last thing she needed really. She just wanted somebody to talk to that was a guy, who would give her objective opinions. And because of that we just kind of opened up to each other.' He went on to highlight that the level of their friendship was so strong that he would prepare food for Princess's dinner. 'It wasn't a formal thing, we'd just meet up for a cup of tea, or sometimes we'd have a long chat for an hour, sometimes it would be very quick,' he stated, adding that he enjoyed the time he spent with her.

NHL Trade News: New York Rangers re-sign goaltender Dylan Garand to one-year contract extension

Photo by Matthew Murnaghan/Hockey Canada Images The New York Rangers have secured organizational stability in net by re-signing goaltender Dylan Garand to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level. The 23-year-old has steadily developed in the American Hockey League with the Hartford Wolf Pack, showing marked improvement each season. With veteran Louis Domingue leaving for the KHL, Garand is now positioned for a pivotal role that could shape his future with the Rangers. New York Rangers re-sign goaltender Dylan Garand after breakout AHL season with Hartford Wolf Pack Garand has been on a steady rise since debuting in Hartford during the 2022-23 season. He first worked as Domingue's backup but gradually earned the starter's crease by improving each year. After a rookie campaign where he posted a 13-14-3 record and .894 save percentage, Garand lifted his numbers to 16-17-5 with a .898 save percentage in 2023-24. Last season marked his breakout, as he logged a 20-10-8 record with a .913 save percentage in 39 games, making him one of Hartford's most reliable players. That progress convinced New York to bring him back on a fresh deal, giving Garand the opportunity to prove he can continue trending upward. His consistent development has placed him on the radar as a long-term option behind Igor Shesterkin, especially if he can handle a starter's workload in Hartford. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo A pivotal 2025-26 season ahead for Dylan Garand with the Hartford Wolf Pack With Domingue moving to Russia's KHL, Hartford's goaltending responsibilities now fall primarily on Garand. The Rangers expect him to take on 40 to 50 starts during the 2025-26 campaign, a heavy workload that will serve as a proving ground. If Garand thrives, he could elevate into NHL backup consideration by next season. If he falters, he will still provide much-needed veteran leadership in a young Wolf Pack goalie room that includes Callum Tung, Hugo Ollas, and Talyn Boyko. Garand's performance this year will be closely monitored by both the Rangers' front office and fans. His steady climb suggests he is ready for the challenge, but consistency will determine whether his next contract keeps him in Hartford or moves him up to Madison Square Garden. The Rangers' decision to re-sign Dylan Garand highlights their confidence in his continued development. With a bigger role awaiting him in Hartford and the potential to push for NHL time, the 2025-26 season could prove decisive in shaping his future within the organization.
