Prisoner caught smirking on CCTV before beating fellow inmate to death

Two men who beat a man to death in his prison cell were seen smirking as they walked away from the crime scene on CCTV.
Ashirie Smith, 19, and Thierry Robinson, 21, brutally attacked Mahir Abdulrahman, 31, at HMP Fosse Way in Leicestershire on August 20 last year.
Abdulrahman was subjected to taunts by Smith and Robinson, which ended with him throwing a hot kettle at the pair.
The next day, he was found unresponsive by a female prison officer inside his cell with head injuries after being kicked and having his neck stamped on.
Abdulrahman later died at the scene from a subarachnoid basal haemorrhage – bleeding in an area of the brain.
Newly released CCTV showed the moment Robinson and a topless Smith entered the cell before exiting it around 37 seconds later.
Smith was then seen to re-enter the cell and exit again shortly after having carried out the vicious assault.
Police and ambulance crews were called and found Abdulrahman in cardiac arrest at 7.45 am, but he died an hour later.
Yesterday, Smith was found guilty of murder and jailed for life to serve a minimum of 17-and-a-half years at Leicester Crown Court.
Robinson was found not guilty of murder but found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment. More Trending
A third defendant, Shaan Karim, 38, was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter.
Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: 'The injuries suffered by Mahir Abdulrahman showed a serious, sustained attack had taken place which ultimately led to his death.
'Thanks to the hard work of the investigation team, Smith and Robinson have been convicted in court and will now have to face responsibility for their actions.'
Serco Prison Director Wyn Jones said: 'Any death in prison is a tragedy, but the murder of Mr Abdulrahman was a heinous act. My thoughts remain with his family and those affected by his untimely death.'

Tourist smashes two Terracotta Army warriors during bizarre museum rampage

The 30-year-old man launched himself into the pit at the museum housing the antiques in Xi'an, China, on May 30, while eyewitnesses looked on in shock. Once inside the 18ft deep pit, the man, only identified by his surname, Sun, pushed and pulled over the statues. Video footage then shows him lying on the ground covering his face as eyewitnesses yell at him. One, Xiao Lin, said he was visiting the site with a tour guide when he suddenly saw the man jump in. He shouted, 'What are you doing?' before the man touched the figures and pushed them over. He said: 'Later, the museum was closed, and we were evacuated by staff. I didn't see how the man was removed from the pit.' A tour guide at the scene, named Tete, confirmed the man jumped in and toppled over the terracotta warriors. Afterwards museum security restrained the man while authorities confirmed he is suffering with his mental health. The exhibit is still open to the public while officials work to repair the damage. The Terracotta Army is regarded as one of China's greatest archaeological treasures and features a collection of more than 8,000 life-sized soldiers. The figures date from around the late 200s BCE and were discovered on March 29, 1974, by local farmers just outside Xi'an. In 2017, a man admitted to stealing a thumb from one of the Terracotta statues that was on display in Pennsylvania. Footage showed him taking selfies with the statues before appearing to break something off. The missing thumb was only noticed a month later and the FBI was called. More Trending Michael Rohana, snapped it off at the the Franklin Institute museum from the statue which was estimated to be worth $4.5million. By that figure, the damage to the statues in Xi'an could possible be $9million. Rohana later admitted that he had kept the thumb in a drawer. Haunted doll's handler says it's not responsible for disasters while on tour

The 'Annabelle' doll, which some believe is demon-possessed and was featured in The Conjuring horror films, is on a paranormal tour along with other items belonging to her ghost hunter owners. Word on the street in mid-May was that Anabelle vanished while stopping at the Ghost City Tours office in New Orleans. It happened to be the same week that a fire tore through a nearby plantation and 10 prisoners escaped from a jail. But Tony Spera, the owner of the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, said that Annabelle is 'safely back' there locked in her display case. 'You know, it's easy for rumors to start. The fact of the matter is, that doll was never out of our sight, never out of our control,' Spera told NBC News this week. 'It's in a protective case that many precautions were taken to make it safe.' Paranormal investigator Ryan Buell sought to further quell rumors by posting a video on Facebook on May 24 of himself at the museum. 'She's not in Chicago, she never was in Chicago, and she's not missing because she's right behind me,' said Buell, while pointing the camera towards him with the doll sitting in the case over his shoulder. Still, social media users and conspiracy theorists have been skeptical about those accounts of Annabelle's whereabouts. A blaze destroyed the Nottoway Plantation House between Baton Rouge and New Orleans on May 15, and the very next day, inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center. Annabelle was touring in New Orleans on May 13 and 14, and among the precautions that were taken were having a Catholic priest alongside the doll. Some people are 'absolutely convinced' that Ghost City Tours is at fault for the fire and jailbreak, said its founder Tim Nealon. One Facebook user asked why Annabelle wasn't left at the Connecticut museum and wrote on Ghost City Tours' page: 'Did it cross your mind maybe she was there for a reason. Some things are better left alone.' 'I did not think people were taking it seriously, I kept seeing jokes about it on Instagram and TikTok,' Nealon told USA Today. 'But, I didn't realize people were out here like, actually thinking that this was legit.' More Trending Spera said he doesn't blame people for being skeptical. 'If people don't know about the demonic, it's very difficult to believe that these thing are happening,' he said. 'But they do happen.'
