Delhi gets Centre's ₹1.25-lakh-crore revamp boost: CM
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced a massive ₹ 1.25-lakh-crore investment by the Central government to upgrade Delhi's road infrastructure, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting chaired by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Addressing a press conference, Ms. Gupta said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already completed road projects worth ₹64,000 crore in the Capital, with projects worth ₹35,000 crore currently under way. Projects worth another ₹24,000 crore are ready for execution, with Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) already prepared.
She highlighted several major initiatives that are being undertaken to decongest Delhi and make it pollution-free. These include a 7-km underground tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road; an elevated corridor from INA to the airport, which will later extend to Faridabad and Gurugram. A feasibility study is under way for a tunnel between Sarai Kale Khan and the IGI Airport.
She said major roads like Rohtak Road, M.G. Road, and Ashram to Badarpur have been handed over to the NHAI. A total of ₹150 crore has also been sanctioned for road overbridges and road underbridges to eliminaterailway crossing bottlenecks.

Yesterday, the government completed 100 days of rule in Delhi. 'I prayed to God that the way lakhs of devotees come to Haridwar to worship River Ganga, in the same way, River Yamuna can be cleaned so that people can take a holy dip there,' the Delhi CM added. CM Rekha Gupta, accompanied by her family, also visited the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar on Sunday and took a holy dip in the Ganga river. After taking a holy dip in the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said, 'Taking blessings from Maa Ganga, we will work to make Maa Yamuna clean and beautiful. Maha CM's objection to Almatti Dam height, politically motivated: Bommai
Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai has said that the objection raised by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra regarding the height of the Almatti Reservoir is illogical and politically motivated. In a press release issued in this regard, he said the Almatti Dam, constructed under the Upper Krishna Project, is a vital water storage and distribution grid in the Krishna River basin. It is the lifeline of North Karnataka. The height of Almatti was included in the original Krishna River basin project plan of Karnataka and approved by the Central Government. As per that, the original height was set at 524.25 meters. However, after objections were raised by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the Supreme Court permitted Karnataka to use the water at a restricted height of 519.6 meters under KWDT-1 (Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-1). Furthermore, the KWDT-2 (Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-2) has awarded Karnataka a share of 173 TMC of water, which can be utilized at the height between 519 to 524 meters, as per the final tribunal order. The MP said the tribunal, after conducting an independent hydrological study, confirmed that raising the height to 524 meters would not cause submergence in any part of Maharashtra, including Kolhapur and Sangli. Maharashtra has not legally challenged this verdict. In fact, it was Maharashtra that approached the Supreme Court even before Karnataka, demanding notification of the KWDT-2 award. Additionally, during the 2005 floods, the then Central Water Commission had clarified that the floods were not caused by the backwaters of Almatti. It is also noteworthy that Kolhapur and Sangli in Maharashtra experienced floods even in the 1960s and 70s, long before the construction of the Almatti Dam. Bommai said after all these processes and decisions, it is unreasonable for the Maharashtra CM to raise this issue again. It appears that this stance has been taken due to political pressure from two districts of Maharashtra. Therefore, the Karnataka government must present the complete facts to the Centre. Moreover, the state must expedite the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) works. Failing to do so may jeopardise Karnataka's rightful claim to 173 TMC of water. The state government must act without politicizing the issue. Additionally, the central government must examine all the developments and rulings in this matter and protect Karnataka's interests, he noted.

Kalaburagi aiming for greener future with mass sapling drive
In a determined push towards increasing green cover in the sun-scorched region of Kalaburagi, Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum launched a large-scale sapling plantation drive on June 5, which is celebrated as World Environment Day. The initiative was launched under the banner of the 'Amrit Mitra' campaign at the Public Garden in Gokul Nagar, Shahbazar area. The event was jointly organised by the district administration, Kalaburagi City Corporation, and the Forest Department. Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum emphasised the role of community participation, especially by women, in creating a sustainable and greener Kalaburagi. The campaign carries the slogan 'Women for Trees', reinforcing the leadership of women in environmental conservation. 'As part of the campaign, around 2,000 saplings will be planted in public parks and open spaces across Kalaburagi city under 'Women For Trees' slogan. The saplings are being distributed to members of registered women's self-help groups under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission. These women will be responsible for planting the saplings by August 31, and maintaining them for a period of two years. The Central Government will provide financial support for the upkeep through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),' Ms. Taranum said. Pointing to the Forest Department's target of planting of 4.43 lakh saplings over 1,060.50 hectares of land across Kalaburagi district in the 2025–26 financial year, Ms. Taranum called upon the people to join hands with the initiative to make Kalaburagi a clean and green district. 'It includes block plantations over 567.50 hectares under social foresting initiative and roadside plantations stretching up to 350 km. Around 1.64 lakh saplings will be distributed to the general public, farmers, and organisations under the programme,' she said. Kalaburagi, which has forest cover of less than 5%, falls within the Kalyana Karnataka region where all districts have forest areas below 10%. The new plantation drive aims to address this ecological imbalance by substantially increasing green cover in the region. The event was attended by Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu, city corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde, Deputy Conservator of Forests Sumit Patil, Corporation Deputy Commissioner R.P. Jadhav and staff members from the municipal and forest departments.
