Vivo V60 review: Reliable all-rounder with big battery and fresh design

Five months: that's all the time Vivo took between launching the V50 and dropping its follow-up, the Vivo V60. On paper, it's not a huge leap. The company kept the same display size, charging speed, and IP ratings but sprinkled in some notable upgrades like a bigger battery, a brighter screen, and a new chipset. The goal? To offer a dependable, camera-focused phone at under Rs 40,000. But does it make sense in a segment stacked with more powerful phones from Realme and OnePlus? Let's dig and build: Familiar, but fresherThe V60 doesn't completely reinvent the wheel, but Vivo has refreshed the formula just enough to keep things interesting. You still get a slim, rounded profile, but the camera housing is now a larger, pill-shaped module that looks closer to the Vivo X200 FE than the V50. It houses three sensors and gives the phone a bit more options are solid — Auspicious Gold, Mist Grey, and Moonlit Blue. The blue variant we got for review features a sand-like acrylic finish that feels premium without being flashy. Personally, I found the gold variant more subtle and refined. People will like this model if they prefer less visual flair. One of the standout features here is the retention of both IP68 and IP69 certifications, making the V60 resistant to dust and water, even under high-pressure jets. Few phones in this price segment offer this combination, and it's a genuine practical packing a larger 6,500mAh battery, the device remains impressively slim at 7.7mm. It weighs just 201 grams. The curved edges help in grip, while the glass back adds a touch of elegance. Overall, Vivo has managed to make the V60 both robust and comfortable to hold as well as aesthetically pleasing. Display: Brighter and just as punchyThe display hasn't changed much from the V50. You're still getting a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The pixel density remains 387ppi, which is lower than the older V40's 453ppi, but unless you are pixel-peeping, you won't notice the has cranked up the peak brightness to 5,000 nits, a noticeable jump from the previous model. HDR content on Netflix and Prime Video pops, with deep blacks and crisp highlights. I watched The Batman movie, which looked especially good, with dark scenes showing proper depth, brightness and explosions delivering that wow visibility is solid, with the display remaining legible under direct sunlight. At the other end of the scale, the screen can dim to as low as 2.3 nits, making it comfortable for use in dark environment. The default slightly warm colour tone adds visual comfort for extended viewing. Moreover, Vivo's micro-curved edges on all four sides offer a premium feel while making the display appear larger. However, one quirk remains from the V50: the refresh rate doesn't drop to 60Hz or 90Hz when always-on display is enabled, which could have helped with battery performance?advertisementInstead of chasing raw performance, Vivo went with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 for the V60. That puts it behind rivals running the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 or MediaTek Dimensity 9400e in synthetic benchmarks. On AnTuTu, the V60 pulls in around 1 million points compared to 1.4–2 million for its competitors. Geekbench 6 scores tell a similar story — 3,572 multi-core versus 5,000–7,000 with beefier V60 isn't chasing leaderboard glory. In day-to-day use, it feels responsive and fluid. App launches are quick, scrolling through social media feeds is stutter-free, and switching between multiple apps is smooth. Even with around a dozen apps open in the background, it rarely showed signs of slowing down during testing. advertisementGaming tells a similar story. Genshin Impact defaults to low graphics at 30fps, which is where the experience is most stable. The game does run on medium graphics, but you will notice occasional frame drops and stutter in fighting scenes. BGMI performs better, comfortably offering a smooth experience with a stable frame rate at the high setting, even after 40 minutes of said that, thermal management is generally solid. The Vivo V60 mostly stays cool. Even under sustained gaming loads, the back panel got slightly warm, enough to notice but never to the point of discomfort. In our 3D Mark test, the device even received 99 per cent stability score, which is quite impressive to see and not every phone is able to offer that. Overall, you are getting a good all-rounder phone, which can offer reliable day-to-day the company is promising to offer support for only 3 years of Android OS updates and 4 years of security updates, which is slightly less than what its rivals are offering. Additionally, the device even comes with some bloatware. You can uninstall most of them but the native apps like iManager, Game Centre and V-Appstore can't be deleted from the battery lifeBattery performance is where the V60 truly shines. It has a 6,500mAh battery under the hood and it delivered 19 hours and 10 minutes in the PCMark battery test, which is exceptional for its class. In daily use — including browsing, video streaming, a bit of photography, and gaming — the phone comfortably provided up to 11 hours of screen-on time, translating to well over a day of use for most people. Charging speeds remain unchanged from the V50. Vivo has provided support for 90W charging, which takes about 1 hour and 5 minutes to fully charge the camera? The Vivo V60 can offer you a reliable camera experience and people who like to post a lot on Instagram will likely love using this phone. It offered good shots in daylight, where there is ample light. The dynamic range is balanced most of the time when the sun is out there, but this goes for a toss during the rainy season. The 50-megapixel High-Resolution mode offered better details than the regular photo mode, with sharpness mostly on point. You can't take an ultra-wide shot using the High-Resolution mode, something which we get in several phones in its price range. Never mind, the regular photo mode takes decent photos with enough details, but colours sometimes can be a little Vivo V60 does a great job when it comes to portraits. When there is good light, the device is able to offer beautiful shots of human subjects. Since Vivo is promoting it as a great wedding photography phone, I also clicked a few photos in a similar setup to see how the V60 is able to perform. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the output. While you can't compare this mid-range phone with DSLR, the portrait shots produced by the V60 are quite good for its price. The face tone, texture of the clothes, hair strands and background blur are well captured. People can also adjust the blur amount later in the gallery, although it is better to click a new photo because sometimes this option doesn't work on any photo below to access all the camera samplesVivo phones are known for offering good camera and you can always rely on them for offering solid selfies as well. The output is similar to the portraits taken from the rear camera. Since this phone has support for 2x optical zoom as well, it can offer better detailed shots of close-ups in comparison to the regular photo mode with minimal noise and lively colours. It even offers support for 10x digital zoom, which can offer some good shots of people who are not that far, and you want to take a wider shot of them with enough details and decent dynamic range. Just like every other brand, Vivo has also given the AI eraser option to remove unnecessary objects from a to low-light shots, the device does a fine job. If there is enough light source around the subject, the V60 is able to pull out a decent picture that are usable. However, I also noticed noise in images and a lens flare issue, which could just be a problem with my V60 review: Should you buy it?If your priorities are a smooth general experience, strong endurance, good camera performance, and peace of mind with IP69-level durability (and you don't care about topping benchmark charts), the Vivo V60 is an easy recommendation under Rs 40,000. Power users and hardcore gamers might want to look at faster phones from brands like Realme and OnePlus. But for everyone else, this is a dependable all-rounder that gets the basics right.- Ends
