In a recent interview, Deepika opened up about their conscious decision to keep Dua away from the paparazzi and social media spotlight—and the reason is both heartfelt and relatable.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Deepika Padukone revealed that she wants to give Dua a normal childhood. She said, 'We weren't burdened with our parents' hopes and dreams. I don't ever remember my father sitting me down and saying, 'Hey, I'm a professional badminton player and I'm a celebrity.' I remember it being he was a father first, and everything that we got to know of him was based on just our own curiosity and the fact that everything was just so normal."
In the same interview, she also revealed why she kept her daughter name Dua. The actress said, 'I think what was more important for us was to first hold the baby in our arms, allow her to sort of see this new world she's come into, allow her personality to start developing a little bit." The actress sought inspiration from poetry and music and came upon the name Dua, Arabic for prayer. She said, 'It felt like a beautiful summary of what she means to us and why she means what she means to us."
Deepika also revealed that Ranveer Singh had left it to her to decide when they would have a child. She revealed, 'He was like, 'It's your body. Yes, it's a together decision, but eventually it's your body that's going to go through it. So whenever you feel ready.'"
Meanwhile, on the work front, while Deepika is currently on maternity leave, she will soon begin shooting for the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. She also has the Indian remake of The Intern in the pipeline. The film will also star Amitabh Bachchan. Their on-screen chemistry was much appreciated in Piku, which is re-releasing in cinemas on May 9.
Reportedly, Deepika Padukone will be reuniting with Shah Rukh Khan in King. She has also joined Prabhas starrer Spirit.

I was involved in the greenlighting meetings for it. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) came to LA to do the pitch. He came in with this very big vision. Honestly, it almost felt like a dare—like he was saying, 'I dare you to make this; it's so big. He's a legend of cinema, so the idea of him making a TV Show was unheard of. I thought he came for us to say no. And then, when we said yes, there were lots of delays. It was a complicated production.' Announced in 2021, Heeramandi took almost three years to make and produce before it was released on the platform in May 2024. 'He built these enormous, practical sets that we shot on. There was something beautifully old-fashioned about every element of the production. And he was so proud of it. I was so proud of him. To me, Heeramandi is a true reflection of India's deep, enduring love for cinema,' Sarandos added. Heeramandi is a fictional tale set in the famous red light district of Lahore in pre-Partition undivided India. Bhansali had initially conceived the story as a film in 2007. It was later revived as a show in which Bhansali wanted to cast Pakistani actors Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, and Imran Abbas. But those plans had to be shelved due to the virtual ban on Pakistani artists in India after 2016. Heermandi stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah Badussha.
