After six years in jail, Mumbai man gets bail from Supreme Court in biz partner's murder
Mumbai: The Supreme Court granted bail to Sarang Patharkar, who was in jail for nearly six years in connection with the murder of his former business partner and ex-journalist Anand Narayan in Mumbai's Antop Hill area in 2019. The apex court cited prolonged incarceration and the absence of prior criminal records as key reasons for granting bail. The court set aside the order of the Bombay High Court's bail rejection in August 2024. "We have considered the submissions. Having regard to the fact that the appellant already suffered incarceration of about six years pending trial, and it is not pointed out that he has previous criminal antecedents, we are of the view that it is a fit case where the appellant be released on bail pending conclusion of the trial," the Supreme Court bench observed. The court directed that Patharkar be released on bail under conditions deemed appropriate by the trial court. She also pointed out that despite two time-bound directives from the Bombay High Court, the trial made little progress, with only 19 out of 51 witnesses examined so far. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Wife, teen daughter among four held for Dibrugarh bizman's murder
1 2 Dibrugarh: A local businessman was allegedly murdered in a plot orchestrated by his wife Bobby Gogoi and teenage daughter in the Barbaruah area of Dibrugarh. The mother-daughter duo, along with two others — identified as Dipjyoti Buragohain (21) and his accomplice, a minor (17) — were arrested by police on Sunday morning, eight days after the crime. The victim, Uttam Gogoi (52), a resident of Lahon Gaon in Barbaruah, was found dead at his residence on July 25. What initially appeared to be a robbery gone wrong, soon unraveled into a chilling murder conspiracy involving his family members. According to police, Gogoi's wife and their minor daughter — currently a Class 9 student — were directly involved in planning the murder. The 16-year-old teenage daughter was allegedly in a relationship with one of the other accused, Dipjyoti. Investigators said the mother and daughter had paid Buragohain and his minor accomplice several lakh rupees, along with gold jewellery, to carry out the murder. The gold jewellery was recovered from them following their arrests. "The mother-daughter duo tried to stage the scene as a robbery to mislead investigators, but inconsistencies in their statement and forensic evidence exposed their involvement," Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The news of the arrests sparked protests in Barbaruah.
