Man suspected of double murder was a cop
'Police can confirm that the [dead man] found on the scene was a 32-year-old off-duty police constable who was stationed at Algoa Park,' police spokesperson Lt-Col Siphokazi Mawisa said.
An inquest docket and double murder case have been opened.
Mawisa said Humewood detectives had responded to the scene at Gordon Terrace at about 9.30am.
'On arrival, they found the bodies of two women and a man with gunshot wounds.
'The motive for the double murder is unclear, however, a police investigation is under way.
'Information regarding the deceased will only be released once their next-of-kin have been informed.'
According to bystanders, the two women worked as waitresses at a popular Gqeberha beachfront bar.

Ten police officers who appeared before the Germiston magistrate's court on Tuesday and Wednesday on charges of theft were each granted bail of R1,500 after an unopposed bail application. 'The case stems from a complaint laid by a shop owner in Edenvale, who alleges that during a raid on his business premises on June 4, the officers seized R35,000 in cash, cigarettes worth R150,000 and boxes of Panado tablets,' National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said. She said the officers, six from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and four from the SA Police Service, were part of a joint law enforcement operation aimed at monitoring compliance at shops in the area. 'According to the complainant, he was not present during the raid but was later informed by his cashier that the police had confiscated the items. The seized goods were allegedly placed in several refuse bags to be submitted as exhibits.' However, the complainant claims that upon his arrival at the police station, only one refuse bag had been registered. The cash was neither returned nor recorded in the SAP13 register, the official register used for documenting exhibits seized during criminal investigations. R500m hostel project half done but poor safety and overcrowding persist
At Jeppe Hostel, tenant Celamandla Majola said the upgrades had improved his living conditions but not his sense of safety. 'Our living conditions are now better but there is no safety. At night we hear gunshots, especially in summer,' said Majola. Having moved in five years ago after being told he could stay without paying rent, he now lives with four others in a unit with fixed windows, painted walls, tiles and running taps. Another tenant, Khayalethu Mhlongo, said the changes have brightened the space. 'It used to be dark and scary but now the painting brings life. I can even do video calls to my siblings because it feels better,' he said. He hopes future upgrades will include beds and kitchen stoves. Residents say overcrowding remains a daily struggle. In one unit, six people live together with a makeshift shop operating inside the small space. 'It is a bit cleaner now but too many of us share one room. The shop helps me survive but this is not how a person should live,' said shop owner Thabo Khumalo.
