BIRMINGHAM, England ((Reuters)) -Arsenal suffered a 5-2 hammering at Aston Villa on Wednesday to give Chelsea the opportunity to win their sixth Women's Super League title in a row if they can get a point away to Manchester United later in the evening.
The Gunners, who overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit to defeat Olympique Lyonnais 5-3 on aggregate and book their spot in the Champions League final against Barcelona, were brought back down to earth with a bang by a rampant Villa side that went four goals up by the hour mark.
Stina Blackstenius and Alessia Russo reduced the deficit for the visitors, but Chasity Grant's second goal of the night gave Villa a 5-2 win that opens the door for Sonia Bompastor's Blues.
Chelsea top the standings on 51 points, six ahead of second-placed Arsenal, and a point away to Manchester United later on Wednesday will give them an unassailable seven-point lead with two games left to play.

Soccer-Juventus hand manager Tudor two-year contract extension

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Serie A - Juventus v Genoa - Allianz Stadium, Turin, Italy - March 29, 2025 Juventus coach Igor Tudor applauds fans before the match REUTERS/Massimo Pinca/File Photo (Reuters) -Juventus manager Igor Tudor's contract has been renewed for two more years ahead of the start of their Club World Cup campaign, the Serie A club announced on Friday. Damien Comolli, the club's new general manager, said on Tuesday that they had faith in the Croatian coach who was handed the reins fewer than three months ago. Tudor joined in March after the dismissal of Thiago Motta, with Juve eliminated from all cup competitions and outside Serie A's top four. Under Tudor, they lost just one more league match, securing fourth spot to qualify for the Champions League. "Tudor has committed to our club until June 30, 2027 - with an option on 2028 – and will also lead the men's first team in the coming seasons, starting with the first official competition to be staged in the United States, the Club World Cup," the Turin outfit said in a statement. Juventus face Emirati side Al-Ain in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, followed by clashes against Morocco's Wydad AC and Manchester City in Group G. Golf-Scheffler sets out early with hopes of moving into U.S. Open contention

Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images OAKMONT, Pennsylvania (Reuters) -Pre-tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler headed out early in the U.S. Open second round on Friday hoping to play his way into contention at Oakmont Country Club, where overnight leader J.J. Spaun was scheduled to go out with the late starters. World number one Scheffler, who came into the year's third major with three wins in his last four starts, opened with a three-over-par 73 that was his worst first-round score relative to par of his majors career. That left Scheffler in a share of 49th place, seven shots behind surprise leader Spaun and facing a stern challenge as he has never come back from outside the top 30 at the end of the first round to win an official PGA Tour event. In the opening round, the brilliant Spaun fired a four-under 66 that was the day's only bogey-free round, and the unheralded American will try to build on his hot start when he heads out from the first tee at 12:52 p.m. ET (1652 GMT). South African Thriston Lawrence, who trails by one shot, will go out at 2:20 p.m. from the 10th tee. Five-times major winner Brooks Koepka, one of 14 LIV Golf players in the field, also went out early and started his day two shots off the pace and in a three-way share of third place with South Koreans Kim Si-woo and Im Sung-jae. Spaniard Jon Rahm, part of a group that finished the opening round three shots back of Spaun, also started early from the 10th tee. Holder Bryson DeChambeau and Masters champion Rory McIlroy, who both struggled in the opening round, have afternoon tee times. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; Editing by Ken Ferris)

Soccer-Inzaghi leaves Pisa job after promotion to Serie A

(Reuters) -Filippo Inzaghi has left his role as Pisa manager by mutual consent, the Serie A club said on Friday, with the coach moving on just weeks after leading the Tuscan side to promotion from Italy's second tier. Inzaghi, older brother of Simone who recently left Inter Milan to manage Saudi club Al-Hilal, took Pisa back to the top flight after an absence of 34 years in his first season at the club. The 51-year-old former Italy striker began his managerial career at AC Milan where he ended his playing days, taking charge at the San Siro for one season before earning promotion from the third tier with Venezia. Inzaghi, who also brought Benevento up to Serie A, is now widely expected to become manager of Serie B club Palermo, according to Italian media reports.
