I replaced my Tesla Model 3 with a BYD Seal. I want nothing to do with Elon Musk anymore.
I've lived in Devon for three years. I'm retired now, but I was a director of mental health services and the chief executive of a not-for-profit health and social care company.
I bought the Tesla Model 3 in 2020 when I retired, with the lump sum you get with your occupational pension, for my wife.
We sold it around three months ago. It just felt really uncomfortable that a single penny of our money would go anywhere near Elon Musk.
I've always been a bit uncomfortable with Musk, but as time went on, my wife and I became increasingly uneasy.
I think that there's a point where it's beyond just unpleasant, and you believe this guy is actively creating hate and division between people.
When the [Southport] riots happened, it felt like he was fanning the flames. I'm not at all comfortable with that, and I don't want to be associated with it.
I think he stepped over a line. His support for far-right parties in Germany and his spreading of misinformation is just disgraceful.
Model 3 woes
If I'm honest, I never really liked the Model 3 that much.
There was no denying that when you first got in, it was exciting. You put your foot down, and it goes very fast. But for me, it was not very comfortable.
The seats weren't well made, and the interior was cheap and nasty. Many of the important settings were adjusted via the display screen, so your eyes were off the road when they should have been on the road.
The doors weren't fitted that well, so you got quite a bit of cabin noise, and after a couple of years, the suspension started squeaking heavily.
It just felt cheap. Personally, I didn't think it was very well put together.
Initially, the service was OK, but after a few years, the response was awful. It's probably the worst service I've ever had from any car dealer.
When we sold the Tesla, it had the worst depreciation of any car I've ever owned. We sold it for just over £10,000 [$13,500] after buying it for nearly £50,000.
[Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.]
Buying a BYD
When we started looking for a new car, I thought that we would have to compromise.
What we found was that there are quite a lot of cars that have caught up and overtaken Tesla, both in terms of quality, but also on range and price.
We got the BYD Seal around the same time we sold the Tesla. We bought an ex-demonstrator vehicle that was a year old.
It's quicker than the Tesla — it accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds — and it has a longer range. You can also charge it to 100% without damaging the battery.
It's just a beautifully built car, and very comfortable. If you shut the doors, they go thunk, as they should, and there's no wind noise in the cabin.
It's got ambient lighting, vented seats, and head-up displays, all the things that you might expect in a car that you pay a lot of money for.
It's hard to find things to fault with it. The media system is a bit clunky and glitchy, and it's a tiny bit slower to charge. However, we do most of our charging at home, and with the Seal having more range, the slower charge time isn't really an issue.
It drives beautifully on the road. You would put it through a corner in a way that I wouldn't drive in the Tesla. It feels safe and it feels solid.
If I could give scores, I'd give the BYD nine out of ten and probably one out of ten for the Tesla.

美國政府「1 蚊」就能用 ChatGPT Enterprise服務
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman speaks during the Federal Reserve's Integrated Review of the Capital Framework for Large Banks Conference in Washington, D.C., U.S., July 22, 2025. OpenAI is practically giving ChatGPT to the government for free 廣告 廣告 Providing ChatGPT to the entire U.S. federal workforce GSA Announces New Partnership with OpenAI, Delivering Deep Discount to ChatGPT Gov-Wide Through MAS

The Power War Goes Bonkers As 3020-Hp EV Supercar Previewed
Just 30 years ago, enthusiasts were drooling over sports cars like the Ford Mustang V8 Cobra R, the Chevy Camaro Z28 SS, Porsche's 911, the Honda NSX, Nissan's Skyline GT-R, Toyota's Supra and the Mazda RX-7, all of which produced around 300-hp. Wind the clock forward three decades and that maximum power output has been boosted by 10 times! That's right, China's massive BYD conglomerate is just about to launch a 3,020-hp fully-electric supercar called the Yangwang U9 Track Edition. Okay, so the naming might be a bit 'iffy,' but jokes aside, that is a ridiculous amount of power. Yep, let's say it—dangerous, in fact. But before we get into the upgraded U9 Track Edition, let's first check out the specs of the base model launched last year. The base model U9 produces 1300-hp, so that's more than double the power! The base model Yangwang U9 went on sale exactly one year ago boasting a seemingly modest by comparison 1,300-hp and four advanced e-motors, one on each wheel. This powertrain allows the U9 to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 2.36 seconds. To put that figure into perspective, Ferrari's twin-turbo V8 SF90 Stradale reaches 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds while the Bugatti Chiron takes 2.4 seconds. The U9 also stunned the motoring world last year when vision of the car turning on itself (rotating on the same spot) and jump over potholes was released. And with 3020-hp, we can expect an even quicker sprint time from zero to 60mph, almost certainly undercutting 2 seconds. For those potential buyers out there thinking, 'Hmmm, will the U9 fit into my garage,' its dimensions measure 195.5″ x 80″ x 51″, making the Yangwang U9 roughly the same size as a Lamborghini Aventador. Now as far as pricing goes, the U9 will set you back around US$233,000, which is less than half the cost of a $525,000 Ferrari Stradale, which has half the power. These comparisons were enough to prod Ferrari's CEO Benedetto Vigna to warn that surging Chinese EV markers are 'a call to action for Europe.' Now back to the newly revealed U9 Track Edition. So what we saw last year was just a sign of things to come. Because based on a new filing at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China, BYD is preparing to launch a new 'Track Edition' of the Yangwang U9. In the established world of sports and super cars, when an automaker releases a 'track' edition of a car, it typically employs bodykit enhancements for improved aerodynamic performance, adding downforce, and it will also fit bigger brakes. And of course, more often than not, you will see significant power upgrades—which is what we see here. But to be bluntly honest, they will need to beef up downforce considerably to stop the U9 from getting airborne, even though the car tips the scales at hefty 2500 kgs or 5,510 lbs. From photos coming out of China, this new Track Edition appears to offer all of the above. But what we are not seeing are explanations of how the brand plans to more than double the car's power from 1300 to 3020 hp. That's one 555 kW e-motor on each corner, a figure that translates to 3020-hp. Obviously the U9 Track Edition will employ four e-motors like its U9 brother, but to boost power by such a large amount, engineers would have to employ a higher density battery pack and higher performance e-motors. Can't wait to hear how they're going to achieve that upgrade and how much more it will cost. But expect something above $300,000. I have driven cars with over 800-hp and they are massively scary. Even driving a hypercar that has AWD and traction control systems like the U9, you have to possess a certain amount of skill and have your wits about you to stay alive. Media were calling the $114,000 Xiaomi SU7 Ultra with 1500-hp dangerous just 6 months ago when it first appeared, but now we have a car with more than double that power. Pundits have also been questioning the reasoning behind the power war going on in Europe that has seen a 2,300-hp Koenigsegg Gemera, a 2,000-hp Lotus Evija and a 1,914-hp Rimac Nevera land in showrooms recently for silly money — with each car demanding over $2 million. Let's takes things back to some semblance of sanity for a moment. I, and many of my colleagues believe that this power war going on in China and elsewhere is getting out of hand. If BYD really wanted to make a super car for driving enthusiasts, then I feel they should rethink their strategy, employ a carbon fiber tub and more carbon fiber body parts, drop the power by half, reduce the amount of batteries needed and reduce the weight by 500-700 kgs. That would also make it handle better and would allow you to reduce the price. But I have a feeling that our quiet calls for sanity will fall on deaf ears.

Mark Cuban says the US has got to keep investing in research if it wants to have a chance of beating China at AI
"Shark Tank" star Mark Cuban says the US can beat China at AI if it continues "investing in research of all kinds as a country." "The IP we create domestically is what the frontier models can buy or invest in to define their differentiation and advance forward," Cuban wrote on X in response to a post by David Sacks, the White House's AI and crypto czar, on the state of the AI race. When asked about his X post, Cuban told Business Insider that American research is "important, not just because of the outcome of the research itself, but its value to American frontier AI models" like ChatGPT and Gemini. Cuban said that any unique intellectual property produced can be "licensed to the models, for a fee, to be included in their training." This would not only offset research costs but also make the models more valuable, he added. "The quality and depth of the research we do in this country can help us stay ahead of China and other countries in the AI race," Cuban told Business Insider. "We need our Ph.D.s, our scientists, our experts, to stay here and contribute to society, and their IP to make American AI models the global leaders," he added. Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump's administration has been culling research grants for universities and research institutions like the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Researchers and scientists told Business Insider's Ayelet Sheffey in April that the cuts could stifle innovation and result in brain drain. "It absolutely endangers the United States' position as the global leader in medical research. And for that, we will pay," Peter Lurie, a recipient of an NIH grant terminated in March, told Sheffey. Staying ahead in the AI race has been a primary focus for the Trump administration, which unveiled its " AI Action Plan" last month. The 28-page plan calls for a light-touch approach to AI regulation compared to Trump's predecessor, President Joe Biden. In January, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek shocked the world with its high-performing but relatively cheap AI models. Trump said he viewed DeepSeek's accomplishment "as a positive, as an asset" for America. "The release of DeepSeek, AI from a Chinese company, should be a wake-up call for our industries that we need to be laser-focused on competing to win," Trump told GOP lawmakers in January.
