That's not the only revelation from this weekend's would-be blockbuster, but it's a biggie (more on that below). The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings together a reluctant crew of misfits, antiheroes, and castoffs from prior films — Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Habour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) — to stop a seemingly all-powerful supervillain. There's also Bob (more on him below, too).
As with the arrival of any new MCU entry, there are many questions. We've got your answers.
Does this even count as a question at this point? The mysterious character played by Lewis Pullman, identified as only Bob in the trailer and other promotion materials, was spoiled years ago by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Kirkman's pal and former Walking Dead player Steven Yeun had originally been cast in the part, and Kirkman announced that Yeun would be playing the Sentry, a near-omnipotent being with an unstable psyche whose dark side manifests as the nefarious Void. Yeun eventually dropped out due to post-strike scheduling conflicts, but Bob remained.
Bob is a bumbling, mild-mannered amnesiac whose powers are unleashed by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), but the conflict between Bob's dueling personas wreaks havoc on the world. With the Avengers long gone, it's up to the Thunderbolts to find a way to stop Bob/Sentry/Void from wiping out New York City.
In the end, after the Thunderbolts take talk him down, Bob is seemingly back to normal-ish and a member of the team.
Marvel Studios
As anyone who has seen the movie poster has undoubtedly noticed, the not-so super team features a star at the end of their name. By the time the credits roll, the audience is told why. The name 'Thunderbolts' — borrowed from the storied, shambolic childhood soccer team of Yelena coached by Alexei — turns out to be a placeholder. Following the climactic battle, Valentina, the shady mastermind behind the dysfunctional heroes, introduces them to the press as... the New Avengers.
Marvel Studios
In the comics, the New Avengers were a rotating team of heroes, whose roster included, among many others, Bucky (as his spin on Captain America), Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Luke Cage.
You bet your sweet asterisk they will. In fact, the end credits declare: "The New Avengers and Bob will return." Expect to see Yelena, Bucky, Red Guardian, Ghost, (RIP, Taskmaster) and Bob face off against Robert Downey Jr.'s Dr. Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
This is a non-spoiler, of course, since the Thunderbolts' stars were included in March's painfully drawn-out roll call of actors to appear in the next Avengers epic.
You know it, true believers. The mid-credits scene is played for laughs, featuring Harbour's uncostumed Alexei finally getting his dream of being on a box of Wheaties (paying off a line from earlier in the film) and unsuccessfully trying to convince a woman in a grocery story to buy the cereal.
But stick around after the credits for a scene that tees up a fantastic Phase Six. The extended stinger (clocking in at 2 minutes, 54 seconds, a new MCU record) takes place 14 months later and finds the team headquartered in the old Avengers Tower, now called the Watchtower. Bucky tells them that he has talked to Sam Wilson/Captain America (Anthony Mackie), who is none too pleased about the latest hero collective assembling on the block. Red Guardian thinks he can solve the burgeoning beef with a quick rebrand, ordering up a line of "New Avengerz" racing suits, but the others have their doubts.
Suddenly the gang is alerted to a potential "extra-dimensional" threat coming from outer space. They call up a satellite image and see a retro-looking rocket ship approaching Earth. As the vessel turns, the number four comes into focus.
Not coincidentally, the next film up in the MCU is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, arriving in theaters on July 25.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director Jake Schreier says that scene was shot a month ago specifically for Avengers: Doomsday. Although he was present on set, he was not directing the sequence. Doomsday is being helmed by MCU stalwarts Anthony and Joe Russo and is set for release on May 1, 2026.

Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney Reveals Season 3 Is Even More Unhinged
Emmy-nominated star Sydney Sweeney opened up about what fans can expect from her return as Cassie in the highly anticipated Season 3. Production on the latest installment of the hit HBO drama is still underway. During a recent interview, Sweeney promised that Euphoria Season 3 will be crazier than previous installments, teasing another chaotic season for her character. In the Season 2 finale, Cassie was dumped by Jacob Elordi's Nate, after her sister Lexi made them characters in her play. 'I have such a spot in my heart for Cassie, and I hold her really close and dear. She is crazy. She makes so many mistakes,' Sweeney shared. 'She's flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love. It could be a sad version of love, as well. It's so much fun to play a character that is as crazy as she is. Sam [Levinson] is such a brilliant filmmaker to work with, because I'll read something, then I'll call him, and I'm like, 'Let's go crazier.' And he's like, 'I'm all in.' And this season is unhinged.' Euphoria is created and written by Levinson, who is also executive producing with Zendaya and Drake. It is based on an Israeli miniseries of the same name. The series follows a group of high school students as they struggle to move through the worlds of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship. Season 3 will feature the return of Zendaya as Rue, Hunter Schafer as Jules, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Dominic Fike as Elliot, Eric Dane as Cal, Colman Domingo as Ali, Martha Kelly as Laurie, and Chloe Cherry as Faye. The next installment is expected to open with a major time jump, which brings the main characters out of the show's original high school setting. The coming-of-age drama is slated to make its return sometime in 2026. Season 3 will also include new cast members Sharon Stone, Rosalia, Marshawn Lynch, Kadeem Hardison, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten. 'BMF' stars La La, Davinchi speak on season 4: 'Bunch of action'
'BMF' stars La La, Davinchi speak on season 4: 'Bunch of action' Show Caption Hide Caption La La Anthony and Da'Vinchi reflect on 'BMF' season 4 "BMF" actors La La Anthony and Da'Vinchi give insight on what fans can expect for Season 4 of the hit Starz crime drama. "See it, touch it, obtain it" and "womb to the tomb" are the codes that Meech (Demetrius "Lil Meech" Flenory Jr.) and Terry (Da'Vinchi) live by. Although bonded by blood, their approach to the drug game is different: Meech is rambunctious, while Terry is more prudent. At the nucleus of their brotherhood were love, loyalty, and the zeal to expand their drug trafficking enterprise. However, "BMF" Season 4 raises the question of what happens when that foundation starts to crumble. In the first episode of Starz's crime drama titled "Graduation Day," Terry is struggling to keep the business afloat while Meech has been missing in action for months following their temerarious trip to Mexico. When Meech finally returns to Detroit, unbeknownst to Terry, they get into a heated altercation that foreshadows the direction of their relationship. Loyal associate Hoop asked what everyone in the room was wondering: "What the (expletive) happened in Mexico?" 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan': Patina Miller discusses season 4, her return as Raq Season 4 will reveal the mysterious events in Mexico Da'Vinchi told USA TODAY that the fight between Meech and Terry in the show highlights how their bond begins to crack. "They were done," the actor said. "And as the season progresses, you start seeing in the flashbacks in Mexico what led to this fight." The scene was intense on screen, but shooting it was a blast: "This season has a bunch of action, so choreographing that fight was hilarious. Working with [Lil Meech] and then teaching him how to throw a camera punch, it was really funny." "BMF," executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, is loosely inspired by the real events of the Flenory brothers, the founders of the "Black Mafia Family," dubbed one of the most notorious drug organizations in the U.S. known for ties with drug cartels. The story follows Big Meech and Southwest T's humble beginnings in 1980s Detroit and their rise to kingpin status, which thrust them into prominent circles alongside legendary hip-hop acts. Both were sentenced to three decades behind bars, but T was released in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. (Big Meech was later let out last October to finish his sentence in a halfway house in Florida. His son plays him in the show.) "I had a conversation with Terry Flenory himself, and he was proud and honored by how I was portraying him on screen," said Da'Vinchi. "And to me, I was like, Yo, that's an Emmy right there. That's an award." 'I'm going to boss up now' Watch clips from Season 4 of 'BMF' Starz's "BMF" returned for Season 4 on June 6. COURTESY 'BMF' / STARZ In Season 4, Terry's convoluted relationship with Markisha Taylor (Alani 'La La' Anthony) also shifts from personal to professional when she approaches him with a proposition to get involved in the drug business. "She's tired of relying on men, and now she's like, I want to be my own boss. I want my own independence. I want to do this myself, which a lot of women can relate to," La La said. "In relationships, a lot of times we lose ourselves, we lose our identity, and Markisha is just tired of it, so she's like, 'I'm going to boss up now. I want to be in charge of my life and the decisions I make.' So it's an interesting journey to see her take this season." When Markisha is first introduced, she is an insurance company employee and the wife of Boom, a local drug dealer who physically abuses her. La La expressed that playing a survivor of domestic violence "was tough," and she wanted to approach the role with care. "It was difficult to go to that place and also to see what she went through," she added. In the first three seasons, Terry and Markisha's connection turns into a love affair that strains Terry's relationship with the mother of his children, LaWanda (Sydney Mitchell), and raises the eyebrows of Meech. Markisha is mature and coaches Terry to get him out of his brother's shadow. "I think Markisha strokes his ego, whether it's conscious or unconscious," Da'Vinchi said. "She has a knowledge of the game that he doesn't have." Markisha "reaffirms everything he feels about Meech and the independence that he wants in the game," he continued. More: Starz's 'BMF' returns for Season 4: Cast, episode schedule, release date, trailer 'So many enemies' With B-Mickie (Myles Truitt) and Lamar's (Eric Kofi-Abrefa) return to the show, on top of other obstacles, there is a lot of pressure on Meech and Terry. " It's just so many enemies coming at us at once that it's hard for us to watch each other's six," Da'Vinchi said. " It's super intense. You don't know who to trust. It's almost like our luck ran out this season." La La calls Season 4 "incredible," adding that it has "so many twists and turns." Taylor Ardrey is a news reporter for USA TODAY.
