BJP working hard to bring back elected govt in Manipur: Biren Singh
'We are not fighting any political party. Our only aim is to end the crisis and bring peace to the state,' he told the media after attending a BJP meeting at Thambal Sanglen in Imphal, chaired by state BJP president A. Sarda Devi.
He said the law and order situation has improved and no gunfights have been reported in the last eight or nine months. He praised Union home minister Amit Shah for working day and night to help bring back normal life.
Biren also spoke about the serious problems caused by illegal immigration and drug trafficking. 'People are now beginning to understand how dangerous illegal immigrants and drugs are for Manipur and the Northeast,' he said.
He added that the BJP has been asking the Centre to speed up the process of forming a new government. 'We want a government that truly represents the will of the people,' he said.
BJP Manipur president A. Sarda Devi said the party has already informed central leaders about the people's strong wish to have an elected government. 'The Centre will take the required constitutional steps soon,' she said.
When asked about unity within the party, Sarda said, 'Only time will tell. But we believe slow and steady wins the race.'
She said that this is not the right time for political competition. 'Elections are not the priority right now. What matters most is peace and stability. We must act according to what the people want,' she added.
Speaking on Sambhidhan Hatya Diwas (Constitution Murder Day), Sarda blamed the Congress for the Emergency declared on June 25, 1975. She said during that time, civil rights were taken away, opposition leaders were jailed, and the media was silenced.
She explained that the BJP was not yet formed during the Emergency. It was the Bharatiya Jana Sangh that fought against the authoritarian rule. 'People now accuse the BJP of targeting the media, but back then, journalists were arrested and real press freedom was crushed,' she said.
Sarda said peace, unity, and responsible governance are the BJP's main goals in Manipur. The party is working hard to bring back an elected government.
When asked whether a new government could be formed before the six-month President's Rule ends, she said 'development will be seen,' but gave no clear answer.
President's Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13 after N. Biren Singh resigned as chief minister. Since then, the state assembly has been kept under suspended animation due to ongoing violence and political instability.

Under attack from the Opposition for Karnataka giving ₹10 crore as flood relief in Wayanad in Kerala, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday defended the expenditure on the grounds that it was a humanitarian gesture. He also defended spending another ₹10 crore on Sadhana Samavesha in Hospete. 'Wayanad witnessed heavy rainfall and landslips and hundreds of people died. Should we not be humane? It is our dharma and responsibility to help,' the Chief Minister said during the discussion on the Money Bill for supplementary estimates of ₹3,352.57 crore before it was passed in Legislative Council on Thursday. In Assembly too, the gesture towards Wayanad came under attack and Leader of Opposition R. Ashok wondered why Karnataka did not show similar large heartedness towards other calamity-hit States. 'The Chief Minister is giving ₹10 lakh to build each house in Kerala, while those in our own State get a meagre sum of ₹95,000 to build their houses during calamity,' said Mr. Ashok. On the expenditure for Sadhana Samavesha, the Chief Minister said, 'Should we not tell the people as to what we have done? It was an event to showcase the achievement of our two-year governance.' The Opposition, debating this issue in Assembly, called it 'Congress party programme.' What it proposes Constituting 0.78 % of the budget, the supplementary estimates proposes ₹2,552 crore as revenue expenditure and ₹ 790 crore towards capital expenditure. The Chief Minister said that the State was expecting ₹820.20 crore from the Centre and ₹262.20 crore from the reserve fund. 'The total outgo will be ₹2,269 crore. We will try to increase the revenue receipts and make reappropriation. If needed, we will take loan. This is the first instalment (of supplementary estimates),' the Chief Minister said. According to him, of the total, ₹1,500 crore will go into the guarantee redemption fund (GRF) that is set aside as per the RBI guidelines as surety for loans raised by the public undertakings. 'Five per cent of of the total debt raised by the public undertakings has to be in the GRF as per RBI guidelines. Currently, the fund has ₹760 crore, whereas the total guarantees given by the State is for debt amounting to ₹46,271 crore.' When the BJP members raised the issue of 'diversion' of funds from SCP/ TSP, the Chief Minister said, 'We were the ones to bring the SCP/TSP Act. Show me one BJP-ruled State that has brought similar plan. I urge the Centre to spend development expenditure according to the population of the SCs.' The Bill was eventually passed amid the din.

‘Embezzled ₹35 lakh from me': Dehradun man dies by suicide, names BJP Yuva Morcha leader
DEHRADUN: An incident of death by suicide in Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun has sent shockwaves across the state after 32- year-old Jitendra Negi recorded a video blaming a BJP youth leader for his death. The video, which went viral shortly after, prompted a swift response from the ruling party. Negi, who hails from Talasari village in Pauri district, was found dead in his car in Doiwala's Bhaniyawala area on Thursday morning, reportedly having shot himself around 4 am. Before his demise, Negi posted a video message on social media explicitly naming Himanshu Chamoli, State Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), responsible for his death. In an alleged suicide note, the deceased, reportedly burdened by heavy personal debt, cautioned others against trusting Chamoli. He alleged Chamoli defrauded him of Rs 35 lakh, which Negi said he had borrowed from several people. 'Himanshu embezzled 35 lakh rupees from me,' Negi stated in the video, alleging the money was used for a news portal, a Mercedes car, mobile phones for Chamoli and his wife worth Rs 2-3 lakh, and the setup of a news channel office. Negi also claimed Chamoli invoked the name of Chief Minister's OSD to take money and even extorted funds from his family. He further alleged that while land agreements were made in his name, Chamoli later distanced himself, leaving Negi burdened with liabilities. Police reached the scene with a forensic team and have launched an investigation. According to police sources, Chamoli has been arrested and is being questioned. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister's Office issued a clarification stating: 'No OSD by the name of Himanshu Chamoli is appointed in the Chief Minister's Office, nor has any government order or appointment letter been issued in this regard.' In a press release, the BJYM said Chamoli had been 'relieved from his post as State Secretary of the Yuva Morcha with immediate effect' on the directions of the Uttarakhand BJP State President.

New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament wrapped up, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has shifted focus to the southern battlegrounds of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, signalling the BJP's intent to expand its footprint in states where it has long remained a marginal force. On Thursday evening, Mr Shah landed in Kerala's Kochi to chair a key meeting of the BJP state leaders at the Renai Hotel, Palarivattom. The gathering, due on Friday morning, brings together senior leaders including Prakash Javadekar and state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar to chalk out strategies for the local body polls in November and the 2026 Assembly elections. This marks the first of Mr Shah's monthly reviews in Kerala, where the BJP has set itself the ambitious goal of winning around 20 per cent of local body wards, with a particular push in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and several municipalities. By projecting itself as a clean, development-driven alternative, the party is looking to erode both LDF and UDF vote shares, banking on the recent Lok Sabha momentum and narrow misses in the 2020 civic polls. From Kerala, Mr Shah will head to Tirunelveli in southern Tamil Nadu on Saturday to oversee booth-level mobilisation across the Kumari Mandalam, which covers five Lok Sabha constituencies including Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari. The meeting is particularly significant for state BJP president Nainar Nagendran who is from Tirunelveli. Mr Shah is also likely to visit Mr Nagendran's home for lunch, in a gesture aimed at rallying cadres and consolidating local support. The region is crucial for the BJP, which performed relatively better here in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, even finishing second in some constituencies. The visit also comes on the heels of actor Vijay's high-profile Madurai rally, where he took on both BJP and the DMK, underscoring the churn in Tamil Nadu's political landscape. Madurai and its surrounding districts form part of southern Tamil Nadu, where the BJP sees potential to grow, especially in constituencies where the AIADMK has weakened and local discontent with the DMK government is rising. The BJP leadership is hoping that a sustained southern push will allow it to consolidate the Hindu vote in southern Tamil Nadu, a region where it has pockets of influence but little statewide traction. Mr Shah's meetings will review booth-level preparedness, identify weak areas from the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and push for early candidate identification to give the party a longer runway for its 2026 campaign. Party insiders say the Tirunelveli event is designed to energise cadres, particularly in districts where leaders have been pressing for greater organisational backing from Delhi. "There are around 8,000 booths here. In some constituencies, the BJP is as strong as the AIADMK. The Home Minister's visit is aimed at consolidating that base and sending a message of support from the top," a BJP leader said.
