Trade Arabia10-04-2025

Dubai Airports has expanded its autism-inclusive training programme, equipping 45,000 employees - across the wider airport community, including partners and stakeholders - to better assist autistic and sensory-sensitive travellers navigating Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC), reported WAM.
The initiative aligns with Dubai's broader ambition of becoming a Certified Autism Destination (CAD).
DXB is the world's first international airport to earn the Certified Autism Centre (CAC) designation, awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) and is also Autism-Certified by the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC).
The expanded training programme is part of Dubai Airports' wider strategy to ensure a supportive airport experience for guests with specific needs.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, said, "True inclusion starts with people. By investing and increasing specialist training by 36 percent year-on-year, we are embedding a culture of understanding and proactive support across our airports."
He added that DXB and DWC are more than airports – they are Dubai's gateway to the world, shaping the first and last impressions of the city for millions of residents and visitors. "With this comes a responsibility: to ensure that every guest, regardless of their individual needs, feels supported and included."
The comprehensive, IBCCES-accredited training has been rolled out across the two airports. Frontline teams from Dubai Airports and key partners including Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and Dubai Taxi Company, Emirates, flydubai, in addition to other airlines and concessionaires operating from DXB have integrated the training into their operations, to create a consistent, supportive environment throughout the travel experience.
Employees are taught sensory awareness, effective communication, and techniques to reduce anxiety to enable them to better support and connect with neurodiverse individuals.
Trained Dubai Airports' Guest Experience Ambassadors, identifiable by Sunflower pins, are positioned at key touchpoints throughout DXB and DWC to provide specialised assistance and informed support to autistic guests and their families.
Throughout Autism Acceptance Month, DXB's Smart Gates, operated by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreign Affairs (GDIFA), are illuminated in blue in solidarity with the autism community. Sunflowers, an international marque for hidden disabilities, are also displayed across DXB terminals to promote awareness.
Dubai Airport's services include the DXB Travel Planner, an online visual guide that helps guests and families prepare for their journey in advance, and the Sunflower Lanyard, a discreet identifier for hidden disabilities that provides access to priority lanes and an autism-friendly route through check-in, passport control, security checkpoints, and boarding.
Other key offerings include complimentary two-hour parking, dedicated taxis, and wheelchair services, along with the Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2, a quiet, sensory-friendly space – all part of DXB's commitment to making travel accessible to everyone.

Dubai International Airport slashes parking fees for travellers

As hundreds of thousands of travellers get ready to head off on vacation this month, Dubai Airports is reducing its parking prices, helping guests enjoy an even more hassle-free journey. Begjnning today (June 10) until June 30, anyone choosing long-term parking will benefit from a reduction in parking rates across all terminals at Dubai International (DXB), said the statement from Dubai Airports. Guests can now park for three days at a rate of AED100 ($27.2), seven days for AED200, and 14 days for AED300. These revised rates apply across all DXB terminals and are aimed at providing greater value and ease for those heading off on their summer holidays, it stated. To make their trip even smoother, guests can also continue to use DXB Express Maps, the digital wayfinding tool that provides real-time navigation across DXB. By scanning a QR code displayed on any flight information screen at the airport, guests can locate their gate, browse the full array of dining and retail options, or find nearby facilities and amenities quickly and easily. To ensure a hassle-free journey and more enhanced travel experience at DXB, Dubai Airports is also offering tips for guests who will be travelling in the coming weeks. It includes: *Guests flying with Emirates can use the airline's home, early and self-service check-in facilities as well as city check-in options. *Guests flying with other airlines should arrive at DXB no earlier than 3 hours before the scheduled departure time. DXB recommends using online check-in where available. *For those travelling with families, children over the age of 12 can use Smart Gates to speed through immigration. *Weighing luggage at home, assembling documents in advance, and being prepared for security checks helps to minimise stress at the airport. *Spare batteries and power banks are considered a safety hazard and are prohibited to be carried in or as checked-in luggage. Passengers must properly pack batteries and power banks and carry them in their hand luggage only. *Travellers can use Dubai Metro to get to and from DXB Terminals 1 and 3. Metro operating times are generally extended during public holidays or during special occasions. *Those visiting the airport to pick up guests are advised to use DXB's designated car parks or valet services to receive their guests in comfort. *DXB offers enhanced services for People of Determination through clearly marked accessibility routes, trained staff wearing Sunflower pins ready to support guests wearing the Sunflower Lanyard, and a dedicated Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2. With DXB expecting to welcome an average of over 250,000 passengers a day through the airport, this limited-time special offer, valid at Terminal 1 Car Park B, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3, allows guests more time to enjoy the diverse offerings at DXB, said the statement.

Dubai Airports to launch final phase of lighting retrofit project

Dubai Airports has signed an agreement with Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad Esco) to launch the final phase of its airport-wide lighting retrofit project, a key milestone in its ongoing sustainability agenda and a major step towards energy-efficient operations at both of Dubai's airports. Etihad Esco is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa). This newly signed phase will see over 180,000 conventional lighting fixtures replaced with energy-saving alternatives across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC), with Concourse A at DXB being the largest single area covered. Combined with the first phase completed earlier and covering 150,000 lighting units at DXB, the project will upgrade more than 330,000 lighting units in total, making it one of the most extensive airport lighting retrofit initiatives in the region, said the statement from Dubai Airports. The project is expected to cut annual energy consumption by 47 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), equivalent to powering over 4,300 homes for an entire year, a significant result that highlights the real-world impact of operational sustainability. The initiative will also deliver annual cost savings of more than AED20 million, contributing to Dubai Airports' efforts to optimise efficiency while supporting Dubai's wider environmental targets. On the strategic deal, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa, said: "Aligned with the UAE's commitment to climate change resilience and sustainable growth, we are dedicated to supporting Dubai's journey towards a green economy." "This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The partnership between Dubai Airports and Etihad Esco is a prime example of our collective efforts to promote energy efficiency, reduce emissions and advance Dubai's Clean Energy Strategy," stated Al Tayer. "Through initiatives like this large-scale retrofit, we are actively building a greener, more resilient future to support our country's needs and ambitions," he added. Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: "In partnership with Etihad Esco and Dewa, this project highlights the power of collaboration in achieving measurable sustainability results. Airports are significant energy consumers, and that gives us both the opportunity and the responsibility to lead meaningful change." "This lighting project goes beyond efficiency upgrades; it is about embedding sustainability into the core of our day-to-day operations. Every kilowatt-hour saved moves us closer to reducing our environmental impact and building a more resilient future. It sets the benchmark for what a truly sustainable airport can and should achieve," he added. Etihad Energy Services Company CEO Dr Waleed Alnuaimi said: "We are driven by the mission to transform Dubai's infrastructure as an outstanding example of energy efficiency and sustainability." "This final phase of the lighting retrofit project with Dubai Airports is a testament to how strategic partnerships and innovative solutions can deliver measurable impact – from substantial energy savings to a reduced carbon footprint. It reaffirms our shared vision of making Dubai a global leader in sustainable development," he stated. Dubai Airports said the installation work is scheduled to begin later this year and conclude by the second half of 2027.

Renault Kwid EV to launch by 2026

TDT | agencies Renault is gearing up to introduce the Kwid EV in India, marking its entry into the affordable electric vehicle segment. Based on the globally sold Dacia Spring EV, the Kwid EV is expected to launch by late 2026 or early 2027. Under the hood, the Kwid EV is anticipated to feature a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a WLTP-certified range of approximately 220–230 km on a single charge. Internationally, the EV comes with two motor options: a 44 bhp unit and a more powerful 64 bhp variant. Charging capabilities include a 7 kW AC charger, which can fully charge the battery in about 4 hours, and a 30 kW DC fast charger that can replenish 80% of the battery in approximately 45 minutes. The design of the Kwid EV is expected to retain the compact and urban-friendly dimensions of its petrol counterpart, with subtle EV-specific styling cues like a closed-off grille and unique alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin may feature modern amenities such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and possibly vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing the car to power external devices.
