Since Jayson Tatum suffered his Achilles tendon injury, the rumor mill has primarily focused on players who could be leaving the Boston Celtics via trade. Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis and even Jaylen Brown have all been discussed as potential trade chips for Brad Stevens.
However, through all of the talk, very little has been said regarding who the Celtics could target this summer. After all, trades usually see players swapping teams. Therefore, any moves Boston chooses to make, will have an impact of Joe Mazzulla's roster.
In a May 29 episode of ESPN's "Get Up", Brian Windhorst cited the Celtics as a team that could make sense in a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Windhorst's reasoning is that Boston is one of the few teams that could put together a competitive trade package while remaining a competitive roster after the deal had been completed.
"I think you have to look at the teams that could make a trade for Giannis that the Bucks would accept and on the other side of the trade would have a contending team," Windhorst said. "So Boston would be on that list. Boston may be the only one."
Any move for Giannis would likely entail Boston trading away Brown. His contract would be the most logical in terms of salary matching. Furthermore, he would ensure the Milwaukee Bucks have a high-level forward to continue building around. So, while it's highly unlikely the Celtics get involved in any Giannis sweepstakes, it's good to know they would be among the front-runners due to the strength in depth of the current roster.
In truth, though, Stevens is likely going to make a series of smaller moves to help position the franchise for when Tatum returns to the rotation ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The words that he shared were not what Chicago fans will want to hear. He's not sold on the young quarterback. "I am not (convinced about Williams in Chicago)," Tannenbaum said. "I worked with Ben Johnson in Miami, the new head coach of the Bears. He is going to be a rule-based, disciplined play-caller and coach. When you have 68 sacks? Look, the Bears were not great in coaching, not great in personnel last year, but you have to bear some of that responsibility." He continued on, revealing his biggest concern about Williams. "No team has done more for their quarterback in this offseason than the Bears. We'll see if he'll get better, but I am concerned by his lack of his discipline in his fundamentals, that's not going to allow him to maximize his potential." During the 2024 NFL season as a rookie, Williams played in all 17 regular season games. He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while rushing for 489 yards. As Tannenbaum mentioned, Williams was sacked 68 times in year one. That led to the Bears going out and trading for both Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, while also signing Drew Dalman in free agency. Now, it's up to the young quarterback to prove that he can become an NFL franchise quarterback for real. If the team plays up to its full potential, the Bears could make the playoffs.
