Kaizer Chiefs news: Edson Castillo and Bafana defender

The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is no longer with Amakhosi and has reportedly already signed a new contract with a club abroad. Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung unveils Edson Castillo before the 2023/24 Betway Premiership season. Image: @kaizerchiefs/X
Despite his confirmed departure behind the scenes, Kaizer Chiefs have remained publicly silent, mirroring the pattern seen with recent exits like Bongani Sam and Tebogo Potsane — both of whom left weeks before the club formally acknowledged their departures.
The Venezuelan international joined Amakhosi ahead of the 2023/24 season and quickly became a fan favourite with his high work rate and ability to arrive in the box to score.
Kaizer Chiefs' transfers: Eight released, and six signed
Despite his quality, the 31-year-old missed a chunk of last season out injured. With coach Nasreddine Nabi actively searching for foreign players to become regular starters, Castillo had to make way.
While there may be internal reasons for Kaizer Chiefs' timing of announcements — such as pending negotiations or legal formalities — the lack of clear communication continues to fuel speculation and confusion.
Kaizer Chiefs questioned on Sundowns-bound star
Until Amakhosi breaks its silence, Castillo's departure remains unofficial in public terms — but within football circles, it's already a done deal. KAIZER CHIEFS' REMAINING OPTIONS IN THE NUMBER EIGHT ROLE: Siphesihle Ndlovu
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo
Thabo Cele (primarily a number six)
George Matlou.
Targets: Feisal Salum
Lebogang Maboe.
A wonderfully talented Kaizer Chiefs product, Khulumani Ndamane, is edging closer to joining Mamelodi Sundowns from TS Galaxy.
The situation has sparked intense debate among fans and analysts, calling into question whether Kaizer Chiefs' decision-making in recent transfer windows is letting valuable talent slip through their fingers.
Ndamane, a 21-year-old left-footed center-back, left the Amakhosi reserve side to impress during his breakout season with Galaxy—and even earned a Bafana Bafana debut.
'Sometimes the guys (at Chiefs) are not making the right decisions,' Khan said… Full story here.

Stellenbosch vs Kaizer Chiefs: Date, Kick-Off Time, Venue, Predicted XI

Kaizer Chiefs will kick off their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC this coming weekend. Having spent three weeks in the Netherlands for their pre-season, Amakhosi returned to the country end of July, where they played Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup. Despite going down on penalties, Nasreddine Nabi's men showed intent and looked positive at times. This weekend, they face a Stellies side that edged out AmaZulu 3-2 in the MTN8 quarter-finals at home. Having played one competitive match, the Cape side will probably have an edge, given they are playing at home. Amakhosi will play Stellenbosch FC on Sunday (10 August) at 17:30 at the Cape Town Stadium. Last season, Chiefs won all three encounters and will go into the clash feeling confident. The Glamour Boys have gotten the better of Stellies and that might play in their hands if they start the match well. If Chiefs concede early, they might struggle to come back, given their problems in front of goals. In six matches played in pre-season, Amakhosi only netted three times. Brandon Petersen (GK) Thabiso Monyane (RB) Miguel Inacio (CB) Aden McCarthy (CB) Bradley Cross (LB) Siphesihle Ndlovi (DM) Thabo Cele (CM) Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Glody Lilepo (LW) Pule Mmodi (RW) Flavio Silva (ST) Kaizer Chiefs are not in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season. 'Velebayi won't shine at Kaizer Chiefs' – Ex-star sends warning

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has backed Amakhosi to prioritise Luke Baartman over Asanele Velebayi. The Soweto giants are looking to sign the Cape Town Spurs duo, but due to the ongoing case over the players, Chiefs are unable to sign them. 'Out of the two Cape Town Spurs players Chiefs are reportedly targeting, I really hope they succeed in signing Baartman – he's got the qualities to do well at the club. I'm not as convinced by Velebayi,' Khanye told Soccer Laduma. 'Look, I know there's a lot of hype around him, but in my opinion, he's not the kind of player who would shine at Chiefs. He's done well for Cape Town Spurs and could fit in at other teams, but Chiefs? I don't see it.' The former Kaizer Chiefs winger warned that Velebayi might fail to deliver like previous talented players who came to Amakhosi but failed to impress. 'We've seen it before with players like Ranga Chivaviro, Lebogang Manyama and others. They looked good at their previous clubs but couldn't replicate that form at Chiefs. That's what I fear with Velebayi,' he explained. Khanye felt Baartman had more potential than Velebayi but felt he's more suited at Orlando Pirates than Kaizer Chiefs. 'Baartman is young, he's talented, and for me, he's got the potential to become one of the best. I think he would improve a lot at a big club. But honestly, I'd rather see him join Pirates than Chiefs,' said the former winger. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Thembinkosi Lorch faces Sundowns exit after missing pre-season

Thembinkosi Lorch appears to have no future at Mamelodi Sundowns, with sources indicating the former PSL Footballer of the Season is not part of head coach Miguel Cardoso's plans. The Citizen reports that Lorch was among the first casualties following Cardoso's arrival last December, having been loaned to Wydad Casablanca just a month later. Rushine de Reuck also departed during the same window, joining Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva on loan. Lorch impressed during his stint at Wydad, particularly with his performances at the Fifa Club World Cup, sparking speculation that he could be reintegrated into the Sundowns setup. However, Phakaaathi understands that Cardoso remains unconvinced and is looking to move in a different direction. The 32-year-old failed to report for pre-season, prompting the Sundowns hierarchy to explore possible exit options. Having signed from Orlando Pirates in a high-profile switch in January 2024, Lorch's move to Chloorkop has ultimately failed to live up to expectations. He is currently training on his own while plotting his next move, believed to be in North Africa. Cardoso, who has consistently expressed a preference for a smaller squad, has already approved De Reuck's switch to Simba SC in Tanzania. Lorch is expected to be the next to leave as Sundowns continue to trim their squad for the new season, with other big-name players also expected to depart the Chloorkop-based side.
