Mahabubnagar: In a grand celebration of Indira Mahila Shakti Vijayotsavam held at Shilparamam in Mahabubnagar, local MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy declared that the government's goal is to empower one crore women to become millionaires. Speaking at the event as the chief guest, he said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is working with the vision of standing as an elder brother to women and is sincerely striving for their upliftment.
He recalled that within just three days of taking charge as Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy fulfilled the promise of providing free RTC bus travel for women. In addition to that, the government has launched various initiatives such as subsidised LPG cylinders, Mahila Shakti canteens, petrol bunks, and ownership of RTC buses by women, to create income-generating avenues.
He stated that women are fully capable of taking up responsibilities and achieving success. As proof, he highlighted that last year, the responsibility of managing Amma Adarsha Schools was entrusted to women's self-help groups, and this resulted in excellent outcomes. This academic year alone, over 1.9 lakh children were newly enrolled in government schools — a clear testimony to the efforts and success of women.
Yennam Srinivas Reddy further said that the government is committed to its promises. As per its assurance, proceedings for 3,500 Indiramma houses have already been issued to eligible beneficiaries this year, and another 3,500 houses will be allotted next year.
He proudly claimed that Mahabubnagar is transforming into a 'Mahila Nagar' because of the success stories of local women. With 30,000 women self-help groups active in the district, he directed officials to immediately prepare reports for establishing the Mayuri Co-operative Society to further strengthen women's economic participation.
The MLA noted that as part of his vision to develop Mahabubnagar as an educational hub, Law and Engineering colleges have been established at Palamuru University. This progress has attracted students from across the united Mahabubnagar district to pursue their education in the city.
He also requested the District Collector to allocate one acre of land for the construction of a hostel exclusively for BC girl students, to be managed by SHG women. He expressed his hope that women should be partners in every business and wished that Mahila Sangha members of Mahabubnagar would become role models for the entire Telangana state.
As part of the program, interest-free loans worth ₹1.67 crore were distributed to women SHG members, and another ₹7.90 crore in loans were arranged through banks. The families of two SHG women members who died in accidents were handed over ₹10 lakh each in financial assistance.
The event also honoured successful women leaders from various SHGs, including Lahari, Anita, Varalakshmi, Hemalatha, and Irfana Begum. Later, the MLA, along with District Collector Viziendira Boi, inaugurated a Food Festival organised by the Mahila Samakhya.
Other dignitaries present included Additional Collector Shivendra Pratap, MUDA Chairman Lakshman Yadav, Market Committee Chairperson Bekkari Anita Madhusudan Reddy, DRDA PD Narsimhulu, DRDO Additional PD Sharada, SERP Director Kashi Vishweshwarayya, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Praveen Kumar Reddy, DCC General Secretary Siraj Khadri, former Municipal Vice Chairman Shabbir Ahmad, ex-Municipal Councillors, and hundreds of women from various SHGs.

Why Revanth Reddy, Telangana Delegation Is Planning To Camp In Delhi

Hyderabad: The Telangana cabinet has decided that a high-level delegation, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, will camp in New Delhi from August 5 to 7, to secure Presidential assent and central government approval for two crucial bills passed by the state legislature, which propose a 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BC) in education, employment, and local bodies. This comes even as the Telangana High Court has set a deadline for conducting long-overdue local body elections and the stoppage of Finance Commission grants due to the absence of elected bodies. The state government has already approved an ordinance to remove the 50 per cent reservation cap, a necessary step for implementing the increased quota, and this ordinance is currently awaiting the Governor's approval. Ponnam Prabhakar, Telangana BC Welfare Minister said after the cabinet meeting yesterday, "This is not a political fight, but a battle for dignity and equal opportunity for more than 90 per cent of Telangana's population, including SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities. The sincerity of the state government is evident in its transparent and data-driven approach, and we urge all political parties, especially the BJP, not to create obstacles in the implementation of the Bills as this is the first initiative taken by any government in the interest of BCs since Independence." During their three-day visit, the delegation, which will include cabinet ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and senior Congress leaders, plans to meet President Droupadi Murmu to directly request her consent for the pending bills. They also intend to engage with floor leaders, MPs, and presidents of various political parties, including the BJP and BRS, to build a consensus and garner national support for the 42 per cent BC quota. Telangana's push for increased BC reservation is based on the findings of a comprehensive caste survey conducted by the state, which reportedly indicates that BCs constitute 56.3 per cent of Telangana's population. The government asserts that this empirical data justifies breaching the traditional 50 per cent reservation cap set by the Supreme Court, similar to models adopted by states like Tamil Nadu under special constitutional provisions. The Congress government has highlighted that this initiative is a fulfilment of its pre-poll promise and a step towards ensuring social justice and political empowerment for BC communities. While the BJP has raised concerns regarding the inclusion of certain Muslim sub-groups under the BC-E category within the proposed quota, the Telangana government maintains that reservations are based on socio-economic backwardness, not religion, and that the expanded quota will benefit all eligible backward classes. Union Minister of State for Home and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay has said Muslim reservation is set to increase in the guise of BC quota. "Congress is giving a false impression to BCs. They are only offering an additional 5 per cent reservations. BCs already have 27 per cent reservations, and if the 10 per cent reservations for Muslims are removed, then BCs would only receive 5 per cent extra as part of the 42 per cent reservations. We don't have a problem with the BC reservation bill if they exclude Muslims in it, otherwise we will stop this. If we don't stop this here, it will become a template across India."

BRS smells a rat in govt's move for Prez's assent to BC quota bill

Hyderabad: BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) leaders today alleged that despite a month having passed since the BC Reservations Bill was put forth, the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's government has made no honest effort to ensure its passage by the President, thereby jeopardising the implementation of reservations in upcoming local body elections. Addressing a press conference, senior leader V Srinivas Goud stated that while the entire country is discussing the backwardness of Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities, and the Central government has even agreed to a caste census, creating an atmosphere where OBCs might gain reservations in legislative assemblies, 'God knows about reservations in the legislative Assemblies, but doubts are hovering over the 42 per cent reservation in the local elections in the state.' He questioned the fate of the ordinance which did not receive approval from the Governor, and the Bills with the President in Delhi, remarking on the Chief Minister's previous 'boasting' in the capital. The BRS leader alleged it was clear that both Congress and BJP were 'enacting dramas' purely for BC votes. He argued that reservations for BCs would not increase unless they were included in the Ninth Schedule, and accused the BJP of blocking the increase in BC reservations by using Muslim reservations as an excuse. He challenged this stance, asking if Muslims were not given reservations in BJP-ruled states or included in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservations. Srinivas Goud reminded that Revanth Reddy, when in opposition, had stated that reservations were not under the state's jurisdiction and that any attempt to increase them locally would lead to imprisonment. 'Why did Revanth Reddy stop the reservation increase ordinance from the Governor?' he questioned. Srinivas Goud further alleged that Revanth Reddy was not making any genuine efforts with the Centre for the approval of BC Bills. He demanded that the Chief Minister and ministers should travel to Delhi to secure approval for the BC Bills and return to Hyderabad only after their passage. He warned that BCs are 'not ready to be deceived by Congress and BJP once again.' Questioning the Congress leaders who celebrated when the ordinance was sent to the Governor, he asked, 'What will they say now?' Goud added, 'If an all-party delegation is taken to Delhi, we will come. They are not doing that work.' Former MLA D Vinay Bhaskar reiterated that the Congress party had made many promises to the BCs during the elections, yet they were not even carrying out the necessary actions for BCs within the state government. 'As stated in the Congress manifesto, we should go to the local elections only after giving 42 per cent reservation to the BCs,' he asserted. He concluded that they would increase pressure on the government, alongside BC associations, to secure these reservations. Balaraju Yadav, K Kishore Goud, Shubhprad Patel, and Gautam Prasad were also present at the press conference.

RTC staff threaten stir over privatisation of Vijayawada depot lands

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees Union on Monday issued a stern warning to the state government, vowing to intensify its agitation if the Governorpet 1 & 2 RTC depots in Vijayawada are relocated to facilitate a Lulu shopping mall project. In a press release issued here, the EU announced that the state government, on Sunday, approved the handover of approximately 4.15 acres of prime land to the Lulu Group for the construction of a shopping mall. This allocated land reportedly includes not only the Governorpet 1 & 2 depots but also the Old Bus Stand and even a municipal park developed during the previous TDP regime. The union alleges that this valuable public land, estimated to be worth hundreds of crores of rupees, has been earmarked for the Lulu Mall, a move they argue will displace essential public transport infrastructure and adversely affect thousands of daily commuters. 'This decision is not in the public interest. It moves RTC depots away from the city's center and hands over valuable public land to private entities,' stated Palisetti Damodara Rao, State president of the APPTD Employees Union. In response to the government's decision, the union has announced a teleconference with its state-level leadership for July 29. Following this, a detailed agitation plan will be declared on July 30, according to Damodara Rao. The union has demanded the immediate withdrawal of G.O. Ms. No. 137 and has vowed to escalate protests if the government proceeds with the proposed land transfer. 'We are not against development, but not at the cost of public transport and public assets,' added GV Narasaiah, State General Secretary of the Employees Union. 'We urge the government to reconsider its decision and protect the RTC properties that serve lakhs of RTC passengers.'
