But a colleague who later saw a video of the incident said it had upset her and referred to the #metoo movement.
Jones, who was head of health and safety at McVitie's owner Pladis, was then fired for 'violating morality and decency'.
An employment tribunal was told that the incident happened as he volunteered to go on stage to accept a gong won by the company.
It was being presented by an actress — not identified at the hearing — and Jones stood next to her and slapped her bottom.

The tribunal heard that although Jones had not asked for consent, he told her he had slapped another 'well-known woman's' bum on stage, so the actress said 'go for it'.
Hundreds of people had attended the International Safety Awards — organised by the British Safety Council — which took place at the InterContinental Hotel in London's Park Lane on June 7 last year.
A junior colleague of Jones who was at the event — but who did not see the slap — said she was shown a video of the incident and was upset by it.
Jones was reported to HR and had a disciplinary hearing the following month for 'physical conduct pertaining to sexual harassment'.
He said he had 'nothing to apologise' for and that even the actress 'felt it was appropriate in the context of the evening'.
But Jones was sacked over the 'wholly inappropriate' behaviour.

He was told that entering into a conversation with the presenter before receiving the award was 'ill-judged and had the potential to put any female presenter in a very uncomfortable position'.
Gemma, who was in Emmerdale from 2011 to 2015, was not interviewed on the matter.
But in a social media post the day after the bash, she told of the 'naughtiness' of the event and said she had a 'bloody good giggle'.
Jones had joined Pladia in 2001 as head of health, safety, environment and security.
He appealed against his sacking but it was dismissed.
He then took it to the tribunal, alleging unfair dismissal.
Jones said the views of the actress were 'highly relevant' and that she 'did not feel harassed, was not distressed, and made no complaint'.
But the central London tribunal found his conduct had upset colleagues and he was fairly dismissed.
The Sun had approached Gemma for comment.

EastEnders' Jean tries to sabotage Kat's happiness in cruel move

Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) has made a cruel attempt at ruining cousin Kat's (Jessie Wallace) 'hag do' in EastEnders – as a last-ditch attempt is made to salvage their relationship. As viewers of the BBC One soap saw earlier this week, an emotional Jean lashed out upon realising that Kat had teamed up with her ex-partner Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) for a new business venture. The deal came just weeks after his affair with Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) was exposed, something which mortified her. Rushing away from Walford to spend time with Mo Harris (Laila Morse) and Fat Elvis, Kat was left to pick up the pieces in the Slater household. Harvey was offered a lucrative purchase – a limousine that could be used for wedding photoshoots. He couldn't afford it, but the seller thought up a cunning scheme to get his cash. Kat signed on the dotted line, unaware of the other bidder being Harvey. She was furious, but alongside partner Alfie (Shane Richie), decided they should capitalise on the mishap by getting him to fork out for the publicity. Alfie had an even better plan. He got down on one knee, and proposed. They could have a proper reception, and not have to pay for half of it! As they celebrated in The Vic, and with Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) quickly arranging a joint stag and hen do, Jean strolled in and assumed that they were all happy to see her return. But that wasn't the case. She felt excluded from the wedding, and was enraged to hear that Harvey was Kat's business partner. Dealing a slap, she told Kat that she was more than welcome to adopt the Moon moniker once again, as she was no longer a Slater. In tonight's episode, damage control began. Alfie urges Kat to put things right, but when she headed to speak with Jean, a huge argument broke out. Kat said that it was Jean's fault that Harvey strayed, and she needed to stop wallowing in self pity. With the hag do in full swing, and everyone donning leopard print, floral shirts and leather jackets, someone snuck into the corridor at Harry's Barn. It was Jean. She jabbed away at the fire alarm, attempting to shut down the bash, before rushing off. More Trending Kat followed, urging her to attend the wedding and to put everything to one side. It seemed that their dynamic would never be the same again. However, in a shock twist, when Kat got home, Jean was there. She realised that they couldn't go on fighting any longer, and as much as it would pain her to see Harvey at the wedding, she would be in attendance. Hurrah! View More » With everything seemingly back to normal, Kat logged onto the computer and was gobsmacked to find a porn website open – and a payment confirmation… blissfully unaware that her son Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) was responsible. Emmerdale star teases Coronation Street crossover twist after 'discussions'

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has been chatting with her Coronation Street pal Vicky Myers about the looming ITV soap crossover, amid fans wanting their characters to feature There could be an epic Vanessa Woodfield and Lisa Swain scene on the way, if Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans have their way. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Vanessa star Michelle Hardwick confessed she'd had discussions with her pal and Corrie star Vicky Myers. Ever since fans learned of the shocking crossover between the two soaps, set to air early next year, they've been calling for a number of characters to be involved. ‌ One such twist hoped for by viewers would see Corrie detective Lisa meet with Emmerdale vet Vanessa. Michelle and Vicky have seen all the comments about their characters meeting, and they are so on board. ‌ They too would love to be involved and would love to have a scene in the crossover where their characters meet, with Michelle telling us they'd been discussing it. She teased to us: "It's so exciting, I think everyone is hoping for a Vanessa and DS Swain crossover aren't they. "Me and Vicky have been talking about it. It would be hilarious." With fans also calling for Vanessa's ex Charity Dingle and Lisa's partner Carla Connor to feature in a scene together, two soap icons, Michelle seemed keen for this too. She responded: "Yes! Those two and me and Vicky!" Michelle's character Vanessa features in heavy scenes this week and going forward, with her brother-in-law Nate Robinson's murder finally exposed. After his body being discovered and identified, Vanessa faces a tough time supporting her grieving sister Tracy Robinson, Nate's wife, who is left reeling over the loss. Not only that, but Tracy faces accusations and could be framed for the crime that fans know was actually committed by John Sugden. Michelle told us of the emotional scenes ahead: "Vanessa will be there for Tracy through the whole thing. Fingers do get pointed, and they all start blaming each other. "The thing is Vanessa doesn't think it's Cain [Dingle] who's done it, but Tracy does. Equally she wants to support her sister and be there for her, but she is trying to be the rational one really, and be strong for her." ‌ There does come a moment where Vanessa fears her sister is to blame as other residents question her motives, but Michelle assured us this is very much in the moment and then it's gone. She shared: "There is one little point where she has this conversation with Rhona [Goskirk], and in one instant she says, 'she couldn't have done it... could she?' "Then it's like no, no she wouldn't. I just think with the lies that Tracy has told about Eric it's, oh my goodness, but she doesn't think it at all and really does stand by her." Vanessa and Mary's friendship will remain going forward, after they cleared the air over Mary's kiss with Vanessa's late girlfriend Suzy Merton. She said: "Mary of all people! She was so nice to Vanessa, I couldn't believe it. But she has buried it, as long as we don't talk about it we're fine."

Coronation Street legend ‘confirms' Emmerdale crossover role

Jack P Shepherd who has played the iconic character of mischievous David Platt since 2000 has teased he could be taking part in the Corrie and Emmerdale special. The Celebrity Big Brother winner appears to be the first soap star to "confirm" their involvement in the one-hour segment, announced by ITV last month. When catching up with Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards recently, Jack let slip the exciting news on the red carpet. When the actor was asked if he will be involved in the 'unprecedented' episode, which will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre, he 'confidently' replied: "Yes!" But Jack's Weatherfield co-star Ben Price (David's brother Nick Tilsley), interrupted: "Are you meant to say that?" Jack responded: "I don't know!" Ben then advised his on-screen sibling not to give any details away, to which Jack continued: "I don't know if I am. Not for a fact, I don't. 'The big key hitters, I think they might have been told. There's rumours – and I'm sniffing that I might be in the periphery." He then joked: "With my Yorkshire accent. I think I'm in it, talking Yorkshire and they're like: 'Where are you from? Are you from Bradford?'" Jack's soap tease might be the news some viewers have been wanting for, as one posted on X: "corrie and emmerdale crossover episode. I need david platt & ross barton , charity & tracy , mandy & carla oh the possibilities." The "mash-up" of two of the nation's most beloved soaps is set to air on ITV next year and will be the first of its kind in British soap history. It will mark the broadcaster's new 'power hour' of soap which begins on ITV1 and STV in January 2026. ITV said the producers, scriptwriters and production teams have 'conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire'. This month, Corrie and Emmerdale fans will be given the chance to vote for two characters (one from each soap) that they would like to see interact in a scene. Details will be launched in June via Coronation Street and Emmerdale's Instagram, Facebook and TikTok accounts, so keep an eye out if you want to get involved.
