Former Clemson star wide receiver Justyn Ross waived by the Kansas City Chiefs
Former Clemson standout Justyn Ross is officially moving on from Kansas City. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs waived Ross on Wednesday after the wide receiver requested his release.
Ross had been on a reserve/future deal and was hoping for a fresh start elsewhere after spending parts of the last three seasons with the organization. He was promoted from the practice squad ahead of this year's AFC Championship Game but saw limited action overall, appearing in just two games during the 2024 season without a catch.
Across two years of active playing time, Ross recorded six receptions for 53 yards and made one start over 12 total appearances. His NFL journey began in 2022, but a preseason foot surgery led to a stint on injured reserve during his rookie season.
Ross was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school and made an immediate splash at Clemson. Despite missing the 2020 season due to a serious neck/spine injury, he finished his collegiate career with 158 catches for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns in 39 games. His impact still ranks among the program's best: tied for fifth all-time in receiving touchdowns, 10th in receiving yards, and 11th in total receptions.
Now healthy and looking to reset his professional career, Ross will search for a new NFL home.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will turn 30 in two months, and that has him thinking about career longevity. Mahomes says that as he looks to continue playing at a high level going forward, he knows he needs to take good care of his body, and that only gets more important the older he gets. Chiefs' Chris Jones voted top interior defensive lineman by AP panel
The one main constant on Kansas City's defense during a run of seven straight appearances in the AFC title game has been defensive tackle Chris Jones. While Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have carried the offense, Jones has done the same on the defensive end for the Chiefs with his knack of creating pressure at key moments playing a crucial role in Kansas City's success. That helped Jones win the honor of being voted the top interior defensive lineman in the league by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at interior defensive line, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Jones got seven of the eight first-place votes to go with one second to win the voting easily. Two other players were on all eight ballots with Dexter Lawrence of the New York Giants getting the other first-place vote to come in second and Philadelphia's Jalen Carter finishing third. Pittsburgh's Cam Heyward finished fourth and Quinnen Williams of the Jets came in fifth. Seattle's Leonard Williams, Tennessee's Jeffery Simmons, Denver's Zach Allen and Carolina's Derrick Brown also received votes. 1. CHRIS JONES, Kansas City Chiefs Jones' sack total of five last season was his lowest since his rookie season in 2016 but he still earned his third straight All-Pro selection after finishing second among all interior defensive linemen with 74 pressures in the regular season, according to Pro Football Focus. Jones' 72 sacks over the past seven seasons rank tied for fifth overall in that span and tied with Aaron Donald for the most among interior linemen. 2. DEXTER LAWRENCE, New York Giants While most of the other players who got votes at interior defensive line are '3 technique' tackles who line up on the outside shoulder of the guards, Lawrence mostly plays nose tackle directly over the center. Those players are typically run stoppers since it is easier to double-team them in the pass game but Lawrence thrives at both. He had a career-high nine sacks in 12 games last season and his 103 pressures when lined up as a nose tackle the past three seasons are 80 more than any other player, according to PFF. 3. JALEN CARTER, Philadelphia Eagles Carter was the anchor of Philadelphia's Super Bowl-winning defense last season. He has 10 1/2 sacks and 102 total pressures in the regular season in his first two years, according to PFF, and helps free up the edge rushers for the Eagles because he warrants so many double teams. 4. CAM HEYWARD, Pittsburgh Steelers Heyward has shown no signs of aging as heads into this season at age 36. He had eight sacks last season when he earned his fourth first-team All-Pro selection. He has 63 1/2 sacks and 91 tackles for loss in the past eight seasons, earning Pro Bowl bids in seven of them. 5. QUINNEN WILLIAMS, New York Jets Williams' production dipped last season as the Jets' defense struggled overall but he has been a consistent performer since being drafted third overall in 2019. Falcons' Chris Lindstrom voted top interior offensive lineman by AP
Chris Lindstrom has spent much of his six-year career under the radar playing for an Atlanta team that hasn't made the postseason since 2017. But Lindstrom's play deserves much more attention as his ability to create holes in the run game and protect the passer is a key part to Atlanta's offensive production. Lindstrom has been the top-graded guard by Pro Football Focus for three straight seasons and has won the honor of being voted the top interior offensive lineman in the league by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players among guards and centers, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Lindstrom got three first place-votes, two seconds and one third to beat out Joe Thuney for the top spot. Thuney, who was traded from Kansas City to Chicago this offseason , got two first-place votes, one second, three thirds and one fourth to finish second. Kansas City center Creed Humphrey got two first-place votes and finished third and Denver's Quinn Meinerz got the other first-place vote and came in fourth. Indianapolis' Quenton Nelson rounded out the top five. Baltimore Tyler Linderbaum, Philadelphia's Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens, Baltimore's Daniel Faalele and recently retired former Detroit center Frank Ragnow also received votes. 1. CHRIS LINDSTROM, Atlanta Falcons Lindstrom has allowed just three sacks and 37 pressures on true pass sets the past three seasons, according to PFF, and has been a steady presence on Atlanta's offense. But Lindstrom really shines at run blocking when his ability to get in space on zone runs has helped fuel Bijan Robinson's success. 2. JOE THUNEY, Chicago Bears Thuney has been one of the top guards in the league ever since being drafted by New England in 2016. He has been a first-team All-Pro the past two seasons in Kansas City and helped the Chiefs and Patriots reach the Super Bowl six times in his nine seasons. Thuney was forced to move out to tackle late last season for Kansas City, but will be back at guard as a key piece in Chicago following on offseason trade. 3. CREED HUMPHREY, Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs were willing to part with Thuney in part because they were strong at the other interior spots led by Humphrey at center. Humphrey has taken the mantle from Jason Kelce as the top center in the league and made first-team All-Pro for the first time last season. Humphrey hasn't missed a game in four seasons and excels at both run and pass blocking. 4. QUINN MEINERZ, Denver Broncos After being drafted in the third round from Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2021, Meinerz has made steady progress each season and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2024 to get on this list. Meinerz allowed just 12 pressures last season, according to PFF, and is a violent blocker in the run game. 5. QUENTON NELSON, Indianapolis Colts Nelson's play has dropped a little in recent years but the 29-year-old is still one of the top guards in the league. He was an All-Pro his first three seasons after being drafted sixth overall in 2018 and earned second-team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career last season.
