Cannes Film Festival 2025 features some of the top names in attendance; look out for these things at the film festival
Scarlett Johansson
, Jennifer Lawrence, and
Tom Cruise
are going to be seen attending the film festival, building up anticipation amongst the public. The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most important and prestigious festivals in the film industry. Due to this, it is essential to know what you should be looking out for during Cannes.
Birthplace of winners: watch out for next year's Oscar nominations
Cannes, due to its credibility, has become the birthplace for films that go on to receive wide acclaim and major nominations as well as awards. This year's festival is said to be no different, as it is said that Cannes brings out winners.
You should watch out for this year's winners at Cannes, as it is predicted that they will also win big with Oscar nominations. 'Anora,' for example, had previously won the Palme d'Or award at Cannes (the most important award given at Cannes to the director). It then went forth and won big at the Oscars for the Best Picture award.
Some of the nameless contenders for the Palme d'Or for this year include 'The History of Sound' and 'The Mastermind,' both starring Josh O'Connor (from 'Challengers'), and
Wes Anderson
's 'The Phoenician Scheme.'

This year, actor
Robert De Niro
will also be in attendance at the film festival, as he is all set to be awarded with an honorary Palme d'Or award.
Films on Gaza and the Palestinian struggle
The much-anticipated documentary film 'Put Your Soul On Your Hand And Walk' is all set for premiering at the film festival. The film is about the life and work of the Palestinian war photojournalist Fatima Hassouna. Only a day after the festival's lineup announcement and the film's premiere announcement at the parallel ACID festival, Hassouna and 10 of her relatives were killed during an Israeli bombing, as per France 24.
The interest around this film increased tenfold after the incident and due to public outrage as well. The much-anticipated documentary is directed by Iranian director Sepideh Farsi, who, in a statement to AFP, shared that she had believed that the war would've ended and Hassouna would've attended the event. She shared that "(Fatima Hassouna) would survive, that she would come (to Cannes), and that the war would stop. But reality caught up with us."
Actors turned directors attend big at this year's Cannes
Another major event to look out for this year is how many Hollywood stars who have accomplished a lot in the realm of acting have now entered the domain of directing films. One such celeb that you should be on the lookout for this year is Scarlett Johansson. Well known for her roles in the 'Avenger' films as Black Widow, the actress officially entered the behind-the-camera scene with her directorial debut, 'Eleanor the Great.'
'Charlie's Angels' star
Kristen Stewart
will also attend the film festival with her next directorial project titled 'The Chronology of Water.' The film is said to loosely be adapted from writer Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir.
Other than this, more stars join the Cannes Film Festival with their directorial projects, including actor Harris Dickinson with his film 'Urchin,' which shares a tale of a man from London who's lived a rough life and how he plans to turn everything around.
Influx of documentaries
This year at the Cannes Film Festival, a multitude of documentaries will also be featured that the public should be keeping an eye out for. One such documentary about U2 frontman Bono is also set to premiere at the film festival, titled 'Bono: Stories of Surrender.' Another addition is a documentary about George Orwell created by Raoul Peck and 'The Six-Billion-Dollar Man' about Julian Assange, the founder and creator of WikiLeaks.

Jennifer Aniston says she and Gwyneth Paltrow still gossip about their mutual ex Brad Pitt: ‘How can we not?'
Jennifer Aniston is not shying away from admitting that she and her pal Gwyneth Paltrow do not feel the need to ignore the one common factor between them- their mutual ex, actor Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow were a high-profile couple in the 1990s, dating from 1994 to 1997 and even getting engaged before ultimately splitting up. Brad then dated Jennifer, and the two got married in 2000. Jennifer Aniston said it is natural that she and Gwyneth Paltrow talk about their mutual ex Brad Pitt. What Jennifer said In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer admitted that she and Gwyneth do talk about Brad when they happen to catch up. During the interaction, Jennifer brushed off the question and said, 'Ironically, I went to her and Brad's engagement party. Oh, of course [talk about Brad]. How can we not? We're girls. We're always swapping advice—'What are you doing for this? What are you doing for that? Do you have a new doctor for that?'' On the media attention to her personal life Jennifer also opened up about the intense media scrutiny about her personal life that took place when she and Brad broke up, around the time he was linked to actor Angelina Jolie. She said, 'It was such juicy reading for people. If they didn't have their soap operas, they had their tabloids. It's a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally. They were sort of building us up and then tearing you down.' The two have maintained a friendship despite their highly publicised marriage and subsequent divorce. On the work front, Jennifer will be seen in the fourth season of the Apple TV+ drama series, which returns to the streamer on September 17. Reese Witherspoon and Mark Duplass will return, with Oscar-winning French actor Marion Cotillard joining the show this season. Marion will play Celine Dumont, a new operator.

A Dark Arrival: Shadow Pokémon Debuts To end the domination, the main event of the takeover will be the Shadow Giratina fetching for kidnappers. Lower-tier raids for that week offer this weird mix of nostalgia and collectability: One-star raids: Bellsprout, Aipom, Teddiursa, and Seedot, all with Shiny potential. Three-star raids: Girafarig, Absol (Shiny guaranteed), and Whirlipede for a tad bit more challenge.
