Arizona's Corbin Carroll was 0-for-5 in his return Saturday after missing more than two weeks with a fractured left wrist, but the Diamondbacks will need his contributions to get out of their doldrums.
Despite their 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals in Phoenix on Saturday, the Diamondbacks have lost seven of their last 10 games entering Sunday afternoon's rubber game of the series.
Carroll, the team's right fielder and leadoff hitter, is batting .251 with 20 home runs and 44 RBIs this season.
He has impressed teammates by returning to the lineup so quickly.
'He just wants to help the team win,' third baseman Eugenio Suarez said. 'And he's hungry to play. He's a guy who loves this game and just wants to be out in the field. It's very impressive because with the fracture he has, they said he might be lost for like a month, but he's back (much sooner). It's awesome for us. For me, I was very happy to see him back in the lineup.'
Said manager Torey Lovullo: 'I'm grateful for the commitment and the dedication. He's one of our best players and one of the best players in the National League, and the fact he's in the lineup is going to give us a much-needed boost.'
Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (0-0, 4.82 ERA) is Arizona's scheduled starter on Sunday. He has one previous appearance against the Royals in his career. He got a no-decision in a start, while with the San Francisco Giants on April 9, 2023. DeSclafani allowed a run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings, did not walk a batter and struck out seven in a 3-1 Giants victory.
Kansas City was stifled by Ryne Nelson on Saturday. He retired the first 16 Royals in order and allowed a run and four hits over seven innings. Nelson did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Kansas City's only offense came in the sixth inning. Freddy Fermin singled with one out to become the Royals' first base runner. Jonathan India singled one out later, and Bobby Witt Jr. followed with an RBI single. Center fielder Alek Thomas then came to Nelson's rescue by denying Kansas City more runs when he made a sliding catch coming in on Vinnie Pasquantino's liner with two outs and runners on first and third to end the inning.
'We were another hit away from a couple more runs,' India said. 'The center fielder made a really good play on Vinnie's ball. So it just didn't go our way.'
The Royals will send right-hander Michael Lorenzen (4-8, 4.95 ERA) to the mound on Sunday. He's 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA in nine career games against the Diamondbacks.
The last time Lorenzen faced them, he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. That was on June 9, 2023, when he started and took the loss by giving up six earned runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Lorenzen walked a batter and struck out three. The D-backs won 11-6.

Patrick Mahomes body shamed ahead of NFL 2025 season trainer Bobby Stroupe fires back with brutal response

Patrick Mahomes body shamed ahead of NFL 2025 season trainer Bobby Stroupe fires back with brutal response (Image Via Getty) A new controversy has popped up around NFL star Patrick Mahomes just days after he returned to training for the 2025 season. A Kansas City radio host made surprising comments about the quarterback's body after shirtless photos of Patrick Mahomes surfaced online. The comments quickly spread on social media and sparked debate. While fans mostly laughed it off, someone very close to Patrick Mahomes didn't take it lightly. The person who trains him every day stepped in to defend the star quarterback, and what he said caught everyone's attention. What bdid Patrick Mahomes's trainer Bobby Stroupe responds on X after viral body comments On Monday, July 8, 2025, Kansas City-based radio host Kevin Keitzman commented on Patrick Mahomes's body after seeing his shirtless photos online. During his segment, he said Patrick Mahomes looked 'fat' and focused on a small love handle seen in the photo. The segment from his radio show went viral immediately, with many saying the comments were ridiculous. Patrick Mahomes is an athlete 28 years old, and he's led the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles, so he can be considered one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. Most fans shrugged off the statement, saying that Patrick Mahomes proves himself when he plays the game not when people see him. But Patrick Mahomes's personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, didn't stay silent. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing: 'Send me your location. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? If you want to see what in shape is, go make it through a practice at training camp or run hurry-up offense scrambling back to back to back plays. You don't have a clue what it takes. It's not a look, it's performance.' The post was later deleted, but not before fans took screenshots and shared it widely. He focused more on Patrick Mahomes's appearance than his football success, which led many to question why a player's body shape matters when they are still winning big games. While Kevin Keitzman may have wanted attention, Bobby Stroupe's response started a bigger conversation about how athletes are judged and what really defines fitness. Shohei Ohtani confirmed to pitch for Dodgers in Saturday's matchup against the Giants

Image Source: Getty The Los Angeles Dodgers have confirmed that Shohei Ohtani will start his fifth and final pitching appearance of the first half this Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. Manager Dave Roberts said that the two-way superstar will start at Oracle Park, with the game beginning at 1:05 p.m. PT. This is rocket fuel for Dodgers fans who have been dreaming about this moment since Ohtani has made an increasingly limited but impactful return to pitching for much of the summer during a recovery from Tommy John surgery. Shohei Ohtani's pitching numbers highlight rare two way dominance Shohei Ohtani is the most efficient pitcher in baseball in his limited time on the mound this season. In four pitching appearances, he has allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings, with an impressive 1.50 ERA. In such a limited time, he has displayed elite command and control, striking out six batters and issuing just one walk. Since returning from Tommy John surgery, his starts have come mostly in quick-reliever portions or as openers by design, a plan from the Dodgers in an attempt to gradually bring him back into pitching. Manager Dave Roberts has been conservative but hopeful about Shohei Ohtani's usage. The start on Saturday is a deliberate last outing before the All-Star break, giving the club time to see how his arm feels without jeopardizing the greater goal of several years ahead. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Techno Mag Learn More Undo Ohtani, even in short doses, has given the Dodgers much-needed flexibility and firepower as they deal with multiple injuries to their rotation. Historic power surge adds to Shohei Ohtani's MVP-level first half Ohtani has only pitched much in four games so far, but has already produced at the plate. The star of the Dodgers has 31 home runs, leading the National League and already making a new record for home runs for the franchise before the All-Star break. Heading into Wednesday's slate, his rank is third in all of Major League Baseball behind Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh with a .998 OPS. Also Read: Shohei Ohtani mom Kayoko Ohtani triggers massive debat after rejecting son's $700 million support His dual-threat skills have made him an early MVP candidate and given the Dodgers a foundation for their success in the first half of 2025. Ohtani will also be the designated hitter for the National League in the All-Star break ahead, but no pitching role has been determined for the midsummer matchup. In any case, his start against the Giants on Saturday evening will conclude an incredible first half of a season that continues to demonstrate the reason the game still considers him among the absolute best and most appealing gifts in the game.
