Karnataka high court defers hearing on govt petition against IPS officer's suspension revocation
The understanding reached ensures Vikash would not file a contempt petition citing that he was not reinstated. On July 1, the CAT Bengaluru bench overturned Vikash's suspension dated June 5 related to the June 4 stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium which resulted in 11 fatalities.
Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty, representing the state govt, argued that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) should contest the tribunal's order as they were deemed responsible for the crowd gathering.
He requested a stay on the tribunal's order and noted that other suspended officers did not challenge their suspensions and there was no interim order in favour of Vikash as well.
Senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, representing Vikash, expressed readiness to present arguments and assured the officer would not pursue contempt proceedings regarding his reinstatement. The division bench, led by Justice SG Pandit, acknowledged the senior advocate's statement and scheduled the matter for final disposal, requiring the advocate general to submit all relevant materials.

Karnataka HC to government: Justify suspension of IPS officer Vikash
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday asked the state government to justify its action of suspending an IPS officer on June 5 on charges of dereliction of duty, after the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru after the IPL tournament. Hearing the appeal filed by the state government against the July 1 order passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which quashed the suspension of Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash, the division bench of Justice SG Pandit and Justice TM Nadaf said 'you (government) have to justify whether it was proper to keep the officers under suspension, or whether shifting the officers to another post would have been sufficient...' Advocate-General K Shashikiran Shetty replied that he will be able to furnish records to justify suspension. Praying to court to stay the CAT's order, he informed that Vikash had gone in uniform to take charge. Senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, appearing for the IPS officer, submitted that he is not going to file a contempt petition against the state. The court observed that the suspension order was lifted, but they (state) have to pass an order for reinstatement. When the matter is taken up for final disposal, do not precipitate, the court told Dhyan Chinnappa, who submitted that he would not precipitate the matter. Further hearing was adjourned to July 9.

300 acres of encroached forest land cleared at Bukkapatna wildlife sanctuary
Tumakuru: In a major conservation effort, 300 acres of encroached land within the Bukkapatna Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary in Tumakuru district were cleared today, as confirmed by Eshwar B. Khandre, Karnataka's Minister for Forests, Ecology, and Environment. The cleared land includes 209 acres of reserve forest in Muthugadahalli and additional forest land previously handed over to the horticulture department. The operation was conducted under the leadership of the Chief Conservator of Forests of the Hassan-Tumakuru division, with support from the police department. The land in question, located in Survey No. 46 of Muthugadahalli Ambarapura, was originally declared as forest land by the Mysuru Maharajas in 1926 under the Mysore Forest Act. However, over the years, parts of this forest were illegally allotted to individuals and encroached upon. The matter was taken to the Karnataka High Court, which ordered the preservation of the area as forest land. Despite court orders, revenue officials failed to cancel the illegal land allotments, prompting a complaint to the Lokayukta. Acting on the Lokayukta's directives, the encroached land was recently re-notified in the name of the Forest Department, making today's clearance operation possible. Minister Khandre emphasized that forest land cannot be diverted for any other purpose unless officially denotified and urged officials and the public to understand and uphold this principle. He extended his congratulations to the officers and forest staff involved in the successful operation and reaffirmed the government's commitment to forest conservation.
