Horror writer and director Mike Flanagan just revealed some exciting details about his vision for DC Studios' upcoming Clayface movie. Although his script is being rewritten and the project is out of his hands, Flanagan got fans excited by revealing his main influence while writing – the two-part episode Feat of Clay from the beloved animated show Batman: The Animated Series.
"Of course it was. I mean that is the perfect [story]," Flanagan told ComicBook when asked about his inspirations. "Feat of Clay, Ron Perlman, to me, that's it. That two-parter knocked me out. The short answer is that is absolutely what inspired my script. That is the world I wanted to live in. Batman: The Animated Series when I was growing up was my Batman. As much as [Michael] Keaton was my Batman, The Animated Series really was my Batman."
Feat of Clay is a two-part story included in season 1 of Batman: The Animated Series (episodes 4 and 5) in 1992, and follows the origins of Clayface. First featured in the DC comics in June 1940, the story follows actor Matt Hagen as he turns to a life of crime after suffering a tragic accident and taking on the personality of one of his horror roles through an experiment. He is made from a strange, clay-like substance.
Best known for his work in hit series like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, Flanagan's version of Clayface was said to be leaning more into the character's horror aspects, but it's hard to say at this point how much of that will remain. "I don't know what they're doing with Clayface," he clarified.
"I'm not directing it, and that filmmaker will need to make it their own," Flanagan continued, "I know that they're doing work on the script. I'm off doing other things now, I really hope it remains true to the spirit of what I wanted it to be. But it's not my movie, so I'll be in the audience with you, anxious to see how it comes out."
Last month, DC Studios announced that Drive screenwriter Hossein Amini would be rewriting Flanagan's script, which came as a shock since fans were excited to have horror legend Flanagan writing the script after he pitched the idea via Twitter way back in 2023. The film is still scheduled to begin production in October in the UK.
Clayface is set to be released on September 11, 2026, as part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. For more, see our guide on how to watch DC movies in order, or keep up with upcoming DC movies and shows.

Jensen Ackles Confirms His Return For Tracker Season 3 In Fun Video, And Now I Need To See Justin Hartley On Countdown

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Tracker has made some big cast changes ahead of returning for Season 3 in the fall of the 2025 TV schedule, with the departures of Abby McEnany and Eric Graise leaving Justin Hartley and Fiona Rene as the only two series regulars left. Fortunately, cast cuts don't mean familiar faces can't return, and Countdown's Jensen Ackles has confirmed that he'll be back as Russell Shaw for Season 3. With that good news, I can't help but think it'd be great to see Hartley as a guest star on Ackles' Countdown if it returns for Season 2 on Prime Video. Jensen Ackles' Return To Countdown The timing couldn't be better for the official news that Jensen Ackles will reprise his role as Russell Shaw opposite Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, as the Supernatural vet recently shared what it's like working with the This Is Us alum. No details are available about Russell's next appearance other than that filming so early likely means he'll appear sooner rather than later in Season 3... and Russell will still have a beard, based on the fun video. Check out Ackles' announcement: Well, credit to Jensen Ackles for mastering the art of dropping news without giving away any spoilers, because he didn't even say the word "Tracker" in his video! Any eagle-eyed viewer can be left with no doubt, however. Even if we considered the possibility that Ackles would somehow have taken on a totally different character on a different show who just also happens to be named Russell, the actor does slightly pan the camera over to see Hartley's "Colter" trailer. Without much to go on to speculate, I can't help but also note that Ackles made sure to shout out the latest episode of Countdown, available streaming now with a Prime Video subscription. While the action-packed drama has yet to be renewed for Season 2, I think Justin Hartley needs to make a guest appearance if it does. Could Justin Hartley Appear On Countdown Season 2? Considering that Countdown kicked off by introducing and then killing a character played by Milo Ventimiglia, the This Is Us connection alone would make an appearance by Justin Hartley pretty fun. That's not to say he'd need to be killed off, but even a cameo might be enough. Plus, Ackles and Hartley are both alums of long-running shows on The WB/The CW. Hartley played Oliver Queen on Smallville, while Ackles had stints on Dawson's Creek and Smallville before landing his beloved role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural. Clearly, the two have both come a long way from their days as CW stars, and with Jensen Ackles appearing on Tracker, why not Hartley on Countdown? Ackles seemingly has a packed schedule with Countdown, his The Boys spinoff, and now dropping in and out of Tracker from time to time. Surely Hartley could have a break in his Tracker calendar for even a tiny cameo, right? Well, I can always hope! For now, fans of Jensen Ackles can just cross their fingers that Countdown is renewed for a second season, while Tracker viewers can keep counting down the days until the CBS drama returns in October. See Jason Momoa raze off his iconic beard to film 'Dune 3': 'I hate it!'

Jason Momoa is getting back into character with a startling transformation. The DC superhero, 45, took an electric shaver to his famous facial hair in a July 30 Instagram video as he prepares to reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in the third "Dune" movie. "This is the kickoff. 'Dune 3,'" Momoa said. Later, as he gazed at his newly unveiled jawline, he said: "Ah, only for you, Denis," referring to director Denis Villeneuve. "Dune: Part Three," in production now, is reportedly aiming for a December 2026 theatrical release with franchise stars Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet. Momoa's 16-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa is also part of the highly anticipated sci-fi film's cast. A post shared by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies) Momoa bent over in laughter when he was nearly halfway through the hairy effort. Later, as he saw his bare-faced reflection, he exclaimed, "Damn it, I hate it!" The "Aquaman" and upcoming "Chief of War" leading man noted it's been six years since he last shaved and tied it back to his Hawaiian water brand, Mananalu, which he'd founded around the same time. As he razed off his beard and mustache, he told viewers about the work that his company has been doing to shift away from single-use plastic water bottles, remove them from the ocean and sourcing local water to cut down carbon emissions. Sweet family outing: See Jason Momoa's children support him at the 'Chief of War' premiere Jason Momoa's family ties to 'Dune: Part 3' It's hard to remember a time that the man who played the Dothraki leader Khal Drogo in "Game of Thrones" and half-Atlantean underwater superhero in the "Aquaman" movies sported a bare face. In the first "Dune" film, which came out in 2021, Momoa's Duncan Idaho had a visible jawline. While details on the third installment are scarce, the father of two has opened up about the impact it's had on son Nakoa-Wolf. "He's in for a rude awakening is what he's in for," Momoa told Extra TV at the July 18 "Chief of War" premiere. 'He's into the workforce for the first time. It's going to be good. He did it on his own. I don't want to help him, and he's done it all on his own, and good for him." "I couldn't do what he's doing at his age. There's no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on 'Baywatch' at 19. He's 16 and holding" his own with Villeneuve, Momoa added.

One of D.C.'s top theater makers is leaving. What does it mean for the future?

An epochal turnover of top brass promises to continue remaking the D.C. theater scene. The early announcement of David Muse's 2027 departure as artistic director of Studio Theatre, revealed in a letter to supporters and staff last week, allows the institution ample time to search for a replacement. That person will join Hana S. Sharif at Arena Stage, Karen Ann Daniels at Folger Theatre and Maria Manuela Goyanes's successor at Woolly Mammoth in a fresh class of leaders who are steering these companies through a period of cultural and economic uncertainty.
