Capello: ‘Stupid' Kalulu red card cost Juventus, ‘St. Gasperini' favour needed

Fabio Capello believes that Juventus were on course for victory against Lazio on Saturday up until a 'stupid' red card from centre-back Pierre Kalulu, which has cost Bianconeri control of the race for a Champions League spot and leaves them needing a favour from 'St. Gasperini'.
Juventus finished level at 1-1 against Lazio in Serie A on Saturday. Though they had led from a 51st minute Randal Kolo Muani strike, the Old Lady were reduced to 10 men after an hour and conceded a demoralising Matias Vecino equaliser in the 96th minute.

As things stand on Sunday morning, Juventus are still in fourth, level on points with Lazio in fifth (both on 64), while Roma (63 points) are due to play against third-placed Atalanta on Monday.

Juventus will be hoping that Roma do not beat Gian Piero Gasperini's side, as that will cost them fourth place with just two Serie A games of the season remaining.
Capello: Juventus victory 'ruined' by 'stupid' Kalulu red
Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello feels that Juve's performance against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico was 'ruined' by Kalulu's red card, which he feels would not have even been sent for a VAR check in the Premier League.
'The game was ruined by Kalulu's sending off. Juventus started looking determined, they created dangerous situations for Lazio,' Capello told the Pink Paper.

'The Bianconeri paid for Kalulu's stupid gesture. But these days the players throw themselves on the ground and hope for VAR, which, unfortunately, often rewards them. In England, they wouldn't have even taken this incident under consideration.

'The Frenchman's red card changed the game and in the end, Lazio's siege was rewarded with Vecino's equaliser in the 96th minute.'
Capello was also asked which team he thinks benefited most from the 1-1 draw between Lazio and Juventus on Saturday, to which he replied: 'Those who are chasing, like Roma. Now Juventus no longer have the ball in their court. They must hope for Atalanta and St. Gasperini against the Giallorossi.'

Revealed – Why Inter Milan Picked Cristian Chivu Over Patrick Vieira After Fabregas Pursuit Failed

Revealed – Why Inter Milan Picked Cristian Chivu Over Patrick Vieira After Fabregas Pursuit Failed Inter Milan chose Cristian Chivu as their new coach over Patrick Vieira due to tactical continuity. This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Inter Milan are on the verge of appointing Cristian Chivu as their new coach. Reportedly, the 44-year-old former Nerazzurri defender and youth team coach will leave Parma and sign a two-year deal. Chivu was not necessarily Inter's Plan A after the departure of Simone Inzaghi. Rather, the Nerazzurri had worked to try and appoint Como coach Cesc Fabregas. However, the Spaniard will instead be staying at the Lariani next season. (Photo by) Reports suggest that Inter Milan would have been willing to make significant changes in order to hand the keys to the team over to Cesc Fabregas. Advertisement The 38-year-old former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder prefers a back four system to a back three. However, once it became apparent that Inter weren't getting Fabregas, they had a couple options. One was Genoa coach Patrick Vieira. However, the Nerazzurri did not go with the Frenchman, preferring Chivu. And according to the Gazzetta, the primary reason for this is that Inter believe that Chivu will not disrupt the team too much. Moreover, there is the fact that Chivu spent several seasons coaching the Nerazzurri's youth teams. He was the Primavera or Under-19 coach for three years, while Inzaghi was the senior coach. Accordingly, Inter believe that the Romanian will keep the existing balance, and is therefore a less risky appointment.

Mixed Signals – How Does New Inter Milan Coach Cristian Chivu's Record At Parma Herald For Inter?

Mixed Signals – How Does New Inter Milan Coach Cristian Chivu's Record At Parma Herald For Inter? Mixed results at Parma don't necessarily bode badly for Cristian Chivu as coach of Inter Milan. Today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, note that the three wins that the Romanian got with the Gialloblu were all against top opposition. Advertisement Inter Milan are on the verge of making the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new coach official. The 44-year-old will replace Simone Inzaghi after the latter's departure to join Al-Hilal. Reports suggest that the Nerazzurri have went with Chivu because of his tactical continuity. Like Inzaghi as well as Antonio Conte, the Romanian uses a 3-5-2 shape. Chivu doesn't have much in the way of senior coaching experience. The former defender did spend several years coaching Inter at youth team level. However, he has been in charge of just thirteen senior matches. These all came at Parma. Chivu took over from Fabio Pecchia in February, with the Emilians fighting off relegation. And he successfully kept them in Serie A. How Do Parma Results Bode For Cristian Chivu At Inter Milan? ROME, ITALY – APRIL 28: Cristian Chivu, Head Coach of Parma Calcio, looks on prior to the Serie A match between SS Lazio and Parma at Stadio Olimpico on April 28, 2025 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by) As Tuttosport note, of Chivu's thirteen matches in charge, Parma won just three. Advertisement The Gialloblu did just about enough to keep themselves in the top flight. However, their form was hardly consistent. This could be a worry for Chivu, as clearly the expectation at Inter will be consistency from week to week. However, of particular notes is the teams that Parma did get results against. The Gialloblu's three wins under Cristian Chivu came against Bologna, Juventus, and Atalanta. The latter in a dramatic final day comeback. These showed that even with a limited squad, Chivu was comfortable setting his team up on the big stage. Then, Tuttosport further note, Parma also got draws against Fiorentina, Inter, and Napoli under Chivu. Therefore, it looks clear that defensive resiliency, concentration, and the ability to stick to a plan and negate stronger teams is a key factor that the 44-year-old brought to the Stadio Enrico Tardini.
