Over 200 foreigners denied entry in 24 hours, Bangladeshis top the list

SEPANG: A total of 229 foreign visitors from various countries were denied entry by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) at KLIA during a 24-hour integrated operation.
The agency issued Notices of Refusal of Entry (NTL) during the operation, which began yesterday and ended at 7.30am today at the international arrival and departure halls of KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which saw 764 foreign visitors screened.
Of these, 229 were found to have failed to meet entry requirements.
Bangladeshi nationals recorded the highest number of NTLs at 204, followed by India (14), Sri Lanka (three), Pakistan (three), Indonesia (three) and Cambodia (two).
MCBA said 66 of the Bangladeshis arrived at KLIA 1 on three flights from Dhaka in the early morning.
"The main reasons for refusal of entry included presenting fake hotel bookings, not having a return flight ticket, and failing to prove sufficient financial means.
"All were believed to be attempting to misuse entry facilities to remain and work illegally in the country," said the agency in a statement.
In a separate incident, MCBA foiled an attempt by an Indonesian man in his 50s to enter Malaysia yesterday, just six days after he was deported for the same offence on Aug 7.
"He was immediately sent back and given a stern warning."
MCBA said entry point controls will continue to be tightened, and uncompromising action will be taken against any party, including officers who collude in attempts to smuggle in foreigners illegally.

Under arrest: Five senior officers and five other civilians including an Indonesian were caught during the raid. KUALA LUMPUR: They were senior military officers, tasked with monitoring and preventing smuggling activities. But they were turned, and became masterminds of a major smuggling syndicate in the south of the country. For the last five years, the five senior officers allegedly leaked military operational information to smugglers and conspired to bring in prohibited items such as drugs, cigarettes and other contraband from neighbouring countries. The smuggling activities were estimated to be worth around RM5mil a month. The officers are alleged to have amassed more than RM3mil in illicit gains over the five years. However, their campaign came to an end when the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) nabbed the five and five other civilians – including an Indonesian national – all aged between 30 and 55 in simultaneous raids around the Klang Valley early yesterday morning. An Indonesian woman without valid travel documents, believed to be the mistress of one of the military officers, was also detained. The bust, codenamed Ops Sohor, was carried out by the MACC's Intelligence Division with support from its Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad from 6.30am. The officers, all from the Armed Forces' intelligence unit, included two retired members of the division. The suspects are believed to have received bribes of between RM30,000 and RM50,000 for each smuggling run, a source said. The raids, which followed a year-long surveillance operation, also led to the seizure of more than RM63,000 in cash, several packets of drugs and alcoholic beverages. The sources described the smuggling network involving the senior officers as 'large and complex' and difficult to dismantle. When contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests. The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. He stressed that the operation should serve as a serious reminder to all, given that the smuggling posed a threat to national security. 'Despite having multiple agencies to monitor and take action, smuggling activities still persist,' he said. All the suspects will be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court today for a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Immigration busts document forgery ring, raids illegal massage operations in KL

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has dismantled a document forgery syndicate and uncovered illegal massage services in separate operations in Kuala Lumpur, arresting 24 foreign nationals and seizing cash and equipment linked to the illicit activities. In a special raid on Monday night in Taman Maluri, Immigration detained 19 men, 16 from Bangladesh and three from Myanmar, all aged between 18 and 43, suspected of producing fake electronic Temporary Employment Visit Pass (e-PLKS) slips. The syndicate allegedly operated behind the cover of phone repair and convenience stores, charging RM100 per falsified slip tailored to passport holders lacking valid passes. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the forgery ring had likely been active for about a year. Among those arrested, two Bangladeshi men were overstayers, while most detainees had no valid travel documents. Authorities seized RM11,357 in cash, forged e-PLKS slips, passports, laptops, printers, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and city hall business licenses during the operation. The suspects have been remanded at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot pending further investigation. In a related crackdown yesterday in Sri Petaling, Immigration personnel arrested one Thai national and four Myanmar men for running illegal massage services targeting male customers. The operation seized RM3,101 in suspected proceeds, promotional materials and QR codes for payment. The Thai national held a Social Visit Pass, while the Myanmar men were undocumented. Zakaria said the illicit massage service operated covertly in unlicensed spa centres and charged RM109 per hour, having run for four months. Two local men have been served notices to assist with the investigations.
