Maharaja T20 Looking For Match Venues As Chinnaswamy Yet To Receive Clearance: Report
M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't cleared for Maharaja T20 because of an investigation.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't received clearance to host the Maharaja T20 tournament, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association now searching for venues to play the tournament at, as Chinnaswamy has been mired in controversy for almost two months now, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo.
The Maharaja T20 is all set to take place from August 11 to 27 and the KSCA needs to find venues with 10 days in hand.
The police have withheld clearance because of the ongoing investigation into the June 4 stampede that occurred near the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations.
An independent CID investigation into the incident, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured, is still underway.
The KSCA is now exploring alternative venues, including its facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, as well as the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru.
Although Alur boasts excellent drainage and infrastructure, the lack of floodlights poses a significant challenge for broadcasters.
According to the report, Alur is all set to host the group games of the six-day women's T20 competition, the Maharani T20, from August 4.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association had been considering hosting the women's final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but that now appears uncertain as police approval is still pending.
As the Karnataka State Cricket Association contends with the prospect of a last-minute venue change, teams have expressed frustration over the financial losses they now stand to incur.
Teams had already booked hotels for players and staff based on the assumption that the entire Maharaja T20 would take place in central Bengaluru.
Bengaluru is all set to host the opening game of the Women's ODI World Cup, along with one semifinal and the final which has put the state association in massive thought over the pending police case.

‘Khelte rehna': Yashasvi Jaiswal reveals Rohit Sharma's message on Day 3 of Oval Test
Rohit Sharma was present at the Oval on Day 3 of the fifth Test and he saw quite a show with the bat from India, with Akash Deep scoring a half-century, Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring his second ton of the series and Washington Sundar later taking the England bowlers to the cleaners. Jaiswal, who played a majority of his Test career as Rohit's opening partner, said that the former captain had a few words for him on Day 3. 'I saw Rohit bhai and I said hi to him. Unhone mujhe yehi message diya ki khelte rehna (He gave me a message to bat on), that was it,' he told reporters after Stumps. Rohit had quite suddenly announced his retirement from Test cricket during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), just days before India set out on the ongoing tour of England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Jaiswal, who scored a masterful 118 off 164 balls on Day 3, said that he is relishing the challenges he has faced in the three five-match Test series he has played thus far. His first was when England toured India last year, in which he became just the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar all the way back in 1971 to score more than 700 runs in a single Test series. This was followed by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia earlier this year before the ongoing five-Test series in England. 'The challenges are different in different places. If you are playing in India the challenges are different, you are going to spin a lot. There will be three spinners, when you play in England or Australia there will be four seamers. I need to plan my innings (accordingly), where my shots are and where I am going to score runs,' said Jaiswal. 'I keep getting all these messages and playing with the seniors for as long as I have like Rohit bhai, Virat bhai helped me grow as a person a lot. Seeing what they have done in Test cricket, how they prepared themselves, it really helped me especially to improve. Also playing with all my mates now, KL (Rahul) bhai the way we chat, (Shubman) Gill bhai, how we think about the game, it's very interesting and I am really enjoying it.'

'Injection Liya Hai Tu?': Gill Shows Desperation As Akash Deep Suffers Another Injury
Last Updated: India's Test skipper Shubman Gill asked Akash Deep about an injection as the latter suffered another injury during England's chase in the fifth Test at Old Trafford. India's Test captain Shubman Gill was heard asking Akash Deep if he had taken an injection to ease his pain, as the latter suffered another injury during England's chase in the fifth Test of the series at Old Trafford in London. Akash was ruled out of the fourth Test with a back injury. In the penultimate over of the first session on the fourth day of the fifth Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Brook drove a ball straight back at Akash, striking him on the shin. After lunch, Gill continued with a pace-heavy approach as Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj operated in tandem. Washington Sundar was then introduced for a small spin spell, but the experiment fizzled out. — The Game Changer (@TheGame_26) August 3, 2025 Meanwhile, Siraj bowled another lion-hearted eight-over spell as India took two wickets to leave England on 164/3 at lunch on day four of the final Test in London on Sunday, August 3. Chasing a record 374, England still need 210 runs for the series-sealing victory over India, while the visitors would back themselves to bowl the hosts on a challenging track and level the series. Having dismissed Zak Crawley on the last delivery of the third day, Siraj began the proceedings alongside Akash. Like the first innings, Siraj put his hand up and produced a fiery spell where he troubled Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope. However, it was Prasidh Krishna who provided the opening breakthrough of the day when he drew Duckett into the drive and had him caught at second slip on what was his fourth delivery of the morning. Siraj, too, was rewarded for his relentless approach when he trapped Pope in front for the second time in the match with a sharp nip-backer off a wobbled seam. Pope had just found his groove, having collected three boundaries off Prasidh before being dismissed in the next over. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
