Netflix confirms fan-favorite 'Wednesday' star is making a surprise return in season 2 — and a possible season 3 update
Christie's return was unveiled during the 'Outcast Assembly' fan event in Sydney, where she made a dramatic entrance, emerging from behind a suspended moon to declare, 'Did you honestly believe Nevermore would let me slip away so easily? I was never truly gone... you simply stopped searching.'
Larissa Weems, the enigmatic and impeccably poised principal of Nevermore Academy, was presumed dead following the events of season 1. Her unexpected return raises numerous questions about the character's fate and the mysteries awaiting in the next installment.

Naturally, fans have been speculating online since this announcement. Given Weems' apparent death in season 1 due to nightshade poisoning, several theories have emerged.
One possibility is that she may appear in flashbacks, offering deeper insights into her past and her connections with other characters. Alternatively, some speculate that Weems could return as a spirit or in a vision, potentially interacting with Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) through her psychic abilities.
Additionally, discussions have circulated about the possibility of Weems having faked her death using her shapeshifting abilities. While Netflix has not confirmed the specifics of her return, fans eagerly await to see which of these theories, if any, proves true.
While earlier reports suggested filming for 'Wednesday' season 3 might begin in fall 2025, a more recent update from Production Weekly indicates that Netflix could now be eyeing a Q2 2026 start date.

This shift in the production schedule could mean a slightly longer wait for the third season's release. However, it's important to note that the creative team has not officially confirmed any details.
Despite this potential delay, the show's creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality continuation of the series. When speaking to Collider about a potential 'Wednesday' spinoff, they said: 'It's not a priority at the moment because, as we just said, it's how do we get Wednesday back faster than we did in season 2?
'So, we kind of went right from finishing season 2 to jumping right into developing season 3. So, it's sort of all Wednesday all the time at the moment.'
Part 1 of 'Wednesday' season 2 concludes with a dramatic cliffhanger: Wednesday Addams confronts the Hyde monster, leading to a chaotic showdown.
In the finale, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), the Hyde, fatally wounds Laurel Thornhill (Christina Ricci) and then throws Wednesday out of a window, leaving her unconscious and her fate uncertain (though, of course, she's going to be fine).
The final four episodes will likely delve deeper into the mysteries introduced in part 1. Wednesday's visions suggest potential threats to her friends, including Enid (Emma Myers), and the true extent of the Hyde's powers will be explored now that Tyler has escaped.
The Long-term Outcast Integration Study (L.O.I.S.) and the secretive Judi Spannegel (Heather Matarazzo) will also play key roles in the unfolding narrative, with some of these narrative threads potentially carrying over into season 3.
Looking ahead, co-creators Gough and Millar have expressed their intention to continue exploring the rich tapestry of Nevermore Academy and its inhabitants (h/t/ Tudum): 'Our goal for season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,' says Gough.
Miller adds: 'We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday. We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season 3!'
Thankfully, we don't have too long to wait to see how season 2 concludes. You can stream the final four episodes on Netflix starting September 3.

Netflix's massive tvOS app redesign rolls out to Apple TV 4K now — here's what's new
In May, Netflix announced a massive redesign of its user interface for its mobile and TV apps, the first in over a decade. However, the design wasn't available for Apple TV owners until today. Initially spotted by Redditors (via 9to5Mac), the updated, if controversial, design appears to have gone live with the most recent tvOS update. If you're not seeing it on your Apple TV 4K, make sure you have the latest version of the Netflix app installed. The update gives the app a fresh look with a new homepage that is focused on clarity and speed. Movie and TV show titles will now show more information upfront, including whether or not it's trending or award-winning. Some navigation tools have been moved. Shortcuts like My List and Search, previously in the sidebar, are now at the top of the screen. My List has been renamed My Netflix and will contain your Continue Watching, My List and Remind Me tabs. As with everything else, Netflix is dipping its toes into generative AI. The streamer version involves natural language to describe your mood. So typing something like 'I want something funny and upbeat' should bring back titles that fit those descriptions. While the design has stirred criticism from many, Apple TV users might find the redesign more welcome as Netflix and Apple now resemble each other. The Apple TV app already uses a similar navigation bar at the top of the screen. Apple is also giving its app a visual update with tvOS 26 which is also supposed to be more fluid and simple. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Reportedly, Apple is going to launch a new Apple TV 4K streaming device later this fall with more smart home updates and a better chip. We could see it debut during the September iPhone 17 launch event or possibly in October. What do you think of the new Netflix tvOS app design? Let us know. Gerard Butler's Movies Tend to Fly Under the Radar in Theaters, but They're Living It Up in Netflix's Top 10
Each week, Netflix drops a list of the top 10 films and TV shows dominating the platform, and for the week of Aug. 4, two Gerard Butler films appear in the US Top 10 list: 2016's Gods of Egypt and 2023's Kandahar. Butler is a reliable movie star whose career is filled with action and adventure films (and the kid-friendly How to Train Your Dragon franchise), but I didn't realize that his name carried so much weight -- and that he was this prolific -- until I noticed he stars in six films currently available on Netflix right now (and has starred in 10 films in the last five years alone). Those two new releases on Netflix are vastly different: Gods of Egypt is a fantasy action film set in a version of ancient Egypt in which Egyptian deities exist among humans, while Kandahar is a realistic action thriller about a CIA operative (Butler) on a mission in Afghanistan who finds himself hunted by enemy forces after his cover is blown. Both films' popularity seems to defy logic when you compare them with what they're up against. In the past month, huge box office movies like Mad Max: Fury Road, Jaws and Jurassic Park dropped on the platform, and yet none of these traditional blockbusters charted after they were added to the movie library. Meanwhile, Kandahar, which grossed just $5 million at the US box office, debuted at No. 6 in the Top 10 last week (and currently sits at No. 2 this week), and Butler is easily the film's most notable star. (On the other hand, Gods of Egypt is a pretty star-studded affair, co-starring Chadwick Boseman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Geoffrey Rush and Rufus Sewell, though the film is considered one of 2016's biggest "box office bombs" for reportedly losing Lionsgate $90 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.) Lionsgate Butler's other films currently on the platform include Plane (2023), London Has Fallen (2016), Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025), and Last Seen Alive (2022). According to Netflix's public top 10 lists, every one of these films entered the Netflix Top 10 when they first arrived on the streamer. While some things about Netflix's algorithms and trends can be a mystery, it seems that one thing is certain: Gerard Butler, no matter what he's in, is a sure bet.

Should 'New Heights' YouTube glitch concern NFL ahead of Chiefs-Chargers Week 1 game?
Taylor Swift's appearance on the "New Heights" podcast led to more than 1 million concurrent viewers on YouTube. The video feed on the platform abruptly ended about one hour and 45 minutes into the stream, which left many confused, since the show had a timestamp of more than two hours. The issue was resolved, but with the NFL and YouTube streaming the Week 1 game in Brazil between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, it begged the question: should the NFL be concerned about YouTube's capability to stream a game to a worldwide audience that will command far more than one million viewers at once? It's not an unfamiliar situation for the league. Last season, as the first-ever NFL games aired live on Netflix set for Christmas Day approached, the streaming service also faced questions about the streaming capabilities in the wake of the issues viewers experienced during the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight. Netflix had roughly one month to figure out the issues and largely aced the test, with hardly any complaints throughout the two games (and a Beyoncé live halftime performance). YouTube does provide the NFL Sunday Ticket Package and many people watch the league through YouTubeTV. But those are premium, subscription-based services with a number of viewers the company – owned by Google – is now accustomed to. (The tech issues for Sunday Ticket during the 2023 season certainly irked fans.) The scale of the Chiefs-Chargers game will exponentially increase the viewership numbers compared to those products, especially since the game is free to watch. A spokeswoman from Google confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that it was not a YouTube issue that led to the glitch. After the calamities of the Paul-Tyson fight, Netflix addressed its issues in connecting its backup servers – utilized to account for the heightened traffic on the platform – with the countless internet service providers (ISPs) throughout the world. Worth noting is that millions of people will be using YouTube simultaneously not for the purposes of watching the AFC West matchup, which could also strain streaming capacity. The NFL would not have handed out exclusive rights to YouTube – financial terms have not been disclosed but its almost certainly in the nine-figure range after NBCUniversal paid more than $100 million to air the first-ever game in Brazil in 2024 on Peacock – if the league didn't think the company could pull it off without issue. Ultimately, YouTube corrected the "New Heights" issue and fans had their "Tayvis" moment. But come Week 1, the company won't have that leeway.
