EastEnders' Phil injured in showdown with boiling water amid Nigel story

Metro5 hours ago

EastEnders' Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is injured next week as he starts to feel out of his depth caring for his old friend Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley).
Earlier this year, Phil stepped up to become a carer for Nigel, who has early-onset dementia and has been experiencing worsening symptoms in recent weeks.
In scenes to air on the BBC soap next week, concerns grow for Phil and how he is coping with his responsibilities after an accident involving Nigel at No. 55.
'This week, there's an incident where Phil is making a meal and needs go out halfway through, so Nigel decides to finish the cooking,' actor Paul Bradley, who plays Nigel, explains.
'Unfortunately, he puts a pan on and forgets about it so when Phil returns, there's a situation that sees them both reaching for the pan.'
As they grapple over the pan, Phil gets splashed with boiling water, and while he later tries to hide his injuries, his ex-wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) is worried when she notices them.
Realising something is wrong, Kat presses Phil to be honest about Nigel's condition, and during their heart-to-heart, she realises Phil is in over his head.
'Phil is struggling but he doesn't show it to Nigel – he's just determined to look after his mate,' Paul says. 'What Phil is doing is very loving, but it's quite a challenge. However, Phil is one of those people who will take on something difficult and take that responsibility on his shoulders.'
As such, Phil later refuses Kat's suggestion that he needs extra support to care for Nigel – but things are brought into sharp focus following an incident involving Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown).

'Lexi begins asking him about his life when they look at old photos and Nigel gets upset because he starts thinking about Debbie and then mixes up Lexi with Clare, which becomes upsetting for her,' Paul explains.
As Phil then tries to manage the fallout of Nigel and Lexi's conversation, Kat insists that he must get help – something which is later echoed by Denise Fox (Diane Parish). But will Phil listen?

EastEnders set for second iconic return as jaws drop over Zoe Slater comeback

EastEnders is tipped to be welcoming back another iconic character with others also teased on the BBC soap, and two cast members have told The Mirror what they know There's another big EastEnders return on the cards, and two cast members have had their say. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, two stars of the BBC soap addressed the reports Max Branning was heading back to Walford. It comes after Zoe Slater's own bombshell comeback on Monday night that left fans' jaws dropping. ‌ Michelle Ryan reprised her role on the BBC soap after 20 years, with Zoe having left Walford for good in 2005. Monday kicked off the comeback, as Alfie Moon was called by a desperate Stacey Slater, Zoe's cousin. ‌ Having stolen Stacey's credit card, Zoe was shown looking worse for wear after a bender with Alfie soon greeting her saying: "Zoe." We can confirm that Zoe will be onscreen for Tuesday and Wednesday too, before she returns permanently in the summer. But Zoe isn't the only familiar face heading back to the show, with Max actor Jake Wood soon joining her it seems. Reports emerged weeks ago that Max was one of the names returning to the show, while Jacqueline Jossa told The Mirror there were multiple faces rejoining the soap. She remained coy when asked about Max coming back before letting slip there's returns planned. Her co-star Scott Maslen also addressed the return, and shared his hopes for a further Branning comeback. Jacqueline commented: "I have seen the rumours. I feel like you would have to ask Ben [Wadey], I'd love it. They tell us nothing. I feel like they tell me nothing because if they tell me, I will tell the world by accident. "I know nothing. It's Max Branning. I'd love him back but he's super busy. We'll ask Ben, we'll beg Ben. Where is he?" Jacqueline went on: "I've heard some rumbles. I heard Kate Oates' source say maybe there are gonna be some returns and for me that excites me, whoever it is." ‌ As for Scott, he told us "it may well be" that Max will come back to the show after four years, and perhaps another of Jack's siblings won't be far behind. We asked Scott about the chances of Carol Jackson returning to the show. He seemed very keen to see the comeback, amid reports that Max's son Oscar Branning will be on the show soon too. Speaking of historic characters returning, Scott told us the show did this well, making all kinds of returns possible. He told us: "Well listen, my family is strong. The Brannings have got a long list of very strong characters, my sister, my brother, they are all brilliant. They would be more than welcome back. That is the beauty of this show. "The work you put in, it doesn't go away. It is always manifesting itself in new ways, in new kids or a new person, so there's always [ a possibility]. That's what happens. There's always people going, people coming back. It's the amazing strength of this show because we can use people who are already a part of the history."

The One Show fans gasp 'how has he got away with that?!' after spotting VERY crude message on Grayson Perry's necklace

The One Show fans were surprised when they spotted a very crude message on Grayson Perry's necklace. Monday's episode of the BBC evening programme was hosted by co-presenters Alex Jones, 48, and Roman Kemp, 32. The pair welcomed actress Christina Hendricks, 50, presenter Katie Derham, 54, and artist Sir Grayson Perry, 65. Grayson wore a yellow t-shirt, colourful trousers, pink Crocs and wide-rimmed glasses. However, his choice of accessory - a pink heart necklace - shocked some when they realised the what the symbols spelled out. The piece of jewellery, which featured a gold chain and a heart with a 'W' and an anchor engraved on it which seemed to spell out w****r. It caught the attention of some viewers who took to social media and one said: 'Interesting choice of necklace Grayson's wearing #TheOneShow.' Another added, 'Anybody noticed Grayson Perry's necklace? W #TheOneShow,' followed by an anchor and laughing face emojis. '#theoneshow how is he allowed to wear that,' someone else said. Another penned: 'Shall see if Grayson's necklace lasts the show #theoneshow.' Someone else added: 'How's Grayson got away with that necklace?! #theoneshow.' While one viewer said: 'Love Grayson, but that necklace is very naughty. #theoneshow.' During the show, Grayson let slip a swear word when discussing the BBC Proms. He said: 'My best experience when I went, a friend invited me into a box and I'd had a drink and the music started, it was Tchaikovsky, a violin concerto, I think, and I was just in floods. 'Because back in the day of vinyl in the corner of the studio when I was at art school, that was probably the only record that wasn't scratched b*****y. It caught the attention of some viewers who took to social media and one said: 'Interesting choice of necklace Grayson's wearing #TheOneShow.' 'So I just burst into floods of tears and then after that I think it was the Elgar piece, I think I was just gone.' Host Roman was forced to apologise for the language, as the programme airs from 7pm to 8pm, before the 9pm watershed. 'Apologies for any fruity language we had there as well, of course,' Roman added, as Alex quipped, 'Grayson!' The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One from 7pm and is available to stream on iPlayer.

BBC presenter runs 10k in Crocs in memory of younger brother

BBC presenter runs 10k in Crocs in memory of younger brother Mr Campbell, an architect and presenter, ran the Glasgow Men's 10k in 50 minutes and 18 seconds, handing out copies of his younger brother Duncan's memoir The Suicide Notes throughout the race (Image: BBC ) BBC Scotland's Home of the Year presenter Danny Campbell has completed a 10k run wearing Crocs in memory of his younger brother who died from cancer. Mr Campbell, an architect and presenter, ran the Glasgow Men's 10k in 50 minutes and 18 seconds, handing out copies of his younger brother Duncan's memoir The Suicide Notes throughout the race. ‌ He wore Crocs during the race to "defy expectations" and to encourage people to "show up for yourself" after his 31-year-old brother's death last year, and regularly wears them during his appearances on television. ‌ In 2024, Mr Campbell spoke openly about losing his younger sibling to an aggressive form of brain cancer, despite trying sonodynamic therapy in New York, describing his brother's health battle as "heroic". The race, which started at the Riverside Museum and ended in Glasgow Green, is designed to get men of all ages talking about their mental health. Mr Campbell, a father-of-three, said: "I ran the race in my brother's honour. Every squeaky step, Dunk was with me. Article continues below "He faced life's hardest challenges with humour, courage, and zero regard for convention. He made sure we laughed, even when things got impossibly hard. I'm just trying to follow in his footsteps. "My Crocs are now a symbol of not giving a toss about other people's expectations. "It's about showing up as yourself - and creating space for other people to do the same. ‌ "Thanks to everyone who donated, cheered, or just shook their head in disbelief. I hope it made people smile. And maybe think about someone they could check in on today." Writing on a JustGiving page, he said: "I'm doing this in memory of my little brother and to encourage others to share their struggles. "Dunk fought a tough battle with cancer and had a profoundly positive impact on so many people. He was charismatic, quick-witted, honest and caring." ‌ Mr Campbell, an ambassador for The Social Hub Glasgow, said that doing the race in Crocs was "a silly way to say something serious". He raised £750 for the Mental Health Foundation, which praised his efforts at "normalising conversations around mental health". Julie Cameron, associate director for Scotland at Mental Health Foundation, said: "We're incredibly grateful to Danny for taking on this challenge, raising both awareness and vital funds for the Mental Health Foundation. ‌ "His message encouraging people, especially men, to talk about their struggles and seek support is more important than ever. "While awareness has grown, stigma still holds many back from opening up about their struggles. "Normalising conversations around mental health is crucial, and if an architect running a 10K in Crocs sparks those discussions, that's a win." Article continues below To donate, visit
